Detective Agency of the Bizarre -
Chapter 398 - 398 255
398: 255.
Official Plot 398: 255.
Official Plot The banquet lasted until close to midnight, the guests dispersed, and the Viscount and one of the evening’s main figures, Francis, went to the study for a night discussion by candlelight.
Meanwhile, as the story continued, the Baron and the exorcists returned to “Sara”‘s bedroom after dinner, where they encountered her “Uncle”, a kindly middle-aged man.
Obscure and ancient sounds entered the mind after a long absence.
[The Viscount’s younger brother knocked on Sara’s door.
“Who is it?” Sara’s inquiry came from the silent room.
“It’s me, Sara, your uncle.” “Uncle?” There was a brief silence behind the door, Sara could not remember having an uncle.]
[“I left when you were very young… about five years old, maybe four.
Do you remember the doll with long hair?
It was a gift from me.” Andrew spoke patiently.
The sealed memory opened, and Sara recalled that doll, which she had loved as a child… but by the time she was ten, Sara no longer liked dolls, and the doll was now buried at the bottom of a box.]
[Sara stood behind the door, wiping the tear stains from the corners of her eyes, and opened the door: “…Uncle.” She managed a faint smile, with one hand hidden behind her back.]
[“Andrew, you can call me Andrew.” Andrew smiled indifferently and reached out to touch Sara’s hair.]
[Sara stepped back to dodge and looked at her uncle warily; she trusted no one now.]
[“Don’t be nervous, my child, I won’t harm you…” Andrew lowered his arm, comforting her, “Relax, everything will get better.”]
[“Because things are already at their worst.” Sara let out a desperate smile that was heart-wrenching, “They can’t get any worse, can they?”.
Sara watched her uncle fall silent, her palm resting on the door, and said, “You should go to father—” “You want to save him?”]]
[Sara’s eyes widened: “What did you say?”]
[Andrew chuckled as he spoke: “My brother never liked me since we were children.
He thought I was a cultist, a charlatan, or something of that sort, that I would doom the entire family and curse everyone close to us.
So, after I came of age, I left the family to pursue what I wanted.”]
[“What do you mean by that statement!” Sara stared intensely at the uncle who had appeared unexpectedly, clutching the scissors hidden behind her.]
[“Be patient, child, I’ve come to help you,” Andrew said, “I sensed everything, know what happened… Though I’m sorry about Adam, I should say, don’t blame your father, he did it too to continue the family lineage.”]
[“He’s already dead.” Sara revealed a trace of pain.
It was her fault Adam died; if only she hadn’t let go of the rope…]
Not far away, the five people hiding in the corner hallway exchanged looks.
When did this happen?
Why did Adam suddenly…
The Baron suddenly covered her mouth and gasped.
Lu Li glanced at her, probably figuring out the cause of Adam’s death.
At the doorfront, the story was still unfolding.
[“Do you love him?
I mean, are you willing to give up everything for him?” Andrew asked.
“What does ‘everything’ mean exactly?” Sara did not understand.]
[“Just as it sounds, you would pay a great price for his return,” Andrew replied.]
[“But how is that possible, he is clearly already…” Sara suddenly paused, grabbing Andrew’s sleeve pleadingly: “Uncle Andrew, can you help me!”]
[Andrew gently patted Sara’s head: “Child, this is something you have to do yourself, what I can do is provide you with a way.” “What should I do?” Sara began to calm down.]
“Here, take this.” Andrew pulled something out from his embrace.
“A book?” Sara asked incredulously, reaching out to take it.
But Andrew moved the thick-covered ancient book away and looked seriously at Sara, “If you choose to read this book, it will mean that you agree to delve into all of this, and from then on, your comfortable and peaceful noble life will no longer concern you.
You will unveil the veil that shrouds the real world, and you must understand that the truth always represents unsettling elements.
Are you ready?”
“Will Adam come back to life?” Sara had only one question.
“Of course.” Andrew nodded, then watched as Sara took the rather heavy ancient book from his hands.
“I was never here, I never gave you anything.
Goodnight.” Leaving those words behind, Andrew turned and walked away.
Sara watched his figure disappear around the corner, came back to her senses, closed the door, and locked it, placing the ancient book on the desk.
She lit an oil lamp and placed it beside the desk, using the light of the lamp to look at the cover.
The title “Book of the Dead” exuded an unsettling message, the thick cover seemed to be sewn together from different animal skins, leaving clear stitch marks.
The cream color of the animal skin, resembling milk several days past its expiration, inexplicably made her somewhat uncomfortable.
Sara gathered her scattered thoughts, pinched the corner of the cover, and turned to the first page.
“Do the dead return to nothingness?” A sentence on the title page made Sara fall into contemplation, and after zoning out for a while, she turned to the second page.
The enigmatic ancient voice temporarily disappeared.
Based on the experiences of the past few days, The Shadow of Puppetry would skip over the details of this part.
Perhaps it was one hour, perhaps two, that the people sitting on the sofa in the corridor heard the enigmatic ancient voice again.
The night grew deeper, and Sara wanted to continue reading to find a way to resurrect Adam, but her body could not hold up any longer, so she laid her head on the desk and fell asleep.
Perhaps she had a nightmare, as a tear rolled down from the corner of her eye.
The enigmatic ancient voice stopped; Lu Li and others waited for several more minutes, confirming it would not start again, then left the corridor, ending a day of playing their roles.
The butler directed the maids to move the sofa back; Baron and Lu Li changed their clothes and returned to the drawing-room.
“The book must contain the method to revive him,” David spoke first.
“Is that possible?” Lola retorted.
“This is a story; anything is possible.
Like Sara…
those creatures, they might not be human, just somewhat similar to humans,” David said.
Petra sighed lightly, “We missed a lot of the plot; we don’t even know where his body is.”
The only certainty was, that ancient book was the “Book of Death” and contained content regarding Adam’s resurrection—or perhaps it did not.
After discussing for a while, Baron and Petra returned to their respective rooms, and Lu Li was sent back to the Detective Agency in the pouring rain.
Midnight, the relentless heavy rain and thunder enveloped the entire city.
In the pitch-dark bedroom, the enigmatic ancient voice echoed slowly…
Sara, standing in front of the balcony, picked up the crumpled sheet with neat cut edges.
“Someone has been here…
Someone cut the ropes…” Sara murmured softly.
