Detective Agency of the Bizarre -
Chapter 342 - 342 199
342: 199.
Tesla’s Concerns 342: 199.
Tesla’s Concerns Tick-tock—
Tick-tock—
Tick-tock—
The sound of dripping echoed hollowly through the lead-gray hall.
Outside the narrow windows near the ceiling, muddy water surged.
The waterline extended down from the window, falling into a barrel below.
Under each window, there was a barrel catching the water, with the sound of droplets intermittently heard.
In a dim corner of the rest area, Tesla, holding a bottle of liquor, leaned against the counter and talked with an Alliance Personnel member.
Now it was the Alliance Personnel’s turn to comment, “Although I don’t care, don’t you think that the investigators’ base is a bit… too simple?”
Tesla turned around, leaned on the counter casually, and said, “Even if it were decorated like a noble’s mansion, no investigator would stay here.
Also, ‘a bit’ and ‘too’ contradict each other.”
“I am just expressing my opinion tactfully.” The Alliance Personnel gave up on convincing these carefree to lazy investigators, their gaze falling behind Tesla.
“Someone is here for you.”
A figure appeared outside the piping passage, walking towards the rest area.
“No more chatting.” Tesla turned around to see who was coming, waved his hand, and walked over with the bottle.
Remembering something, he said to the Alliance Personnel, “Prepare another cup of milk.”
“Milk doesn’t sober you up.”
“It’s not for me.”
Lu Li sat down at a table on the edge, while Tesla walked over and sat opposite him, casually asking, “Are you ready for the rainy season?”
“Yes.”
Still needing to buy food, Lu Li planned to purchase some non-perishable items and canned goods later, which would inevitably be needed.
The air around Tesla, carrying a hint of alcohol, wafted across the table, caught by Lu Li.
“You’re drinking?”
Tesla lifted the bottle from under the table, its clear liquid swaying, “Just noticed?
I’ve been holding it for a while.”
Lu Li replied, “Before I smelled the alcohol, there could have been something else in it.”
“Very professional Exorcist thinking, you’re already a fine investigator,” praised Tesla with a smile, then sighed softly.
“Just lost another friend, feels a bit sad.”
“Thomas?”
“Yes.
Except for some noble-like annoyances, he was a really good person.” Lowering his arm, Thomas reminded Lu Li, “I already know how he died, do not be careless when facing those oddities at any time.”
“I know.”
So it was Thomas who had died, not the two investigators.
“So you just wrapped up a case?
What brings you here, got some questions?
Ah, the next person on duty…
let me think…
oh yes, it’s Rachel.
So, for the next three weeks, you can reach me at my place if you have any questions.”
“I’m here to submit a case.”
“The incident at 33 Elm Street?”
“Yes.”
“The adjudication team hasn’t arrived yet, you can wait… I just remembered, they are overwhelmed with— that issue.” Thinking of something, Tesla closed his mouth, then resumed, “You can tell me, as the regional head of Belfast, I have the authority to act temporarily as the adjudication team.”
Lu Li watched him quietly, “I can wait for them.”
Tesla suddenly leaned forward, his slightly tipsy brown eyes suddenly clear and sharp, revealing a cunning hunter-like smile, “Don’t worry, I’m not drunk, it’s just lemon juice with a bit of liquor in it.”
Lu Li remained silent, waiting for Tesla to continue.
He continued in a low voice, “Someone is after me, and I don’t know who it is, so I had to ‘create’ an opportunity for them.”
After speaking, Tesla sat back in his chair, returning to his slightly tipsy demeanor, casually unbuttoning the top two buttons of his shirt, and turning his head to the Alliance Personnel who brought the milk, he said, “Bring me some paper and a pen.”
The Alliance Personnel briefly left, then returned with several feather pens, a notebook, and a bottle of ink for Tesla.
“Feather pens?” Tesla looked at the items on the table and was slightly taken aback.
The Alliance Personnel helplessly explained, “Tristan accidentally sat on a box containing fountain pens while doing weightlifting, and they all got ruined.”
“I remember that was last week, right?”
“Tristan said he would buy a box of fountain pens soon.”
“Alright,” Tesla shrugged and said to Lu Li, “Many nobles have the habit of using feather pens, famously as a noble tradition—though when no one’s around, they all secretly use the more convenient fountain pens.”
“Feather pens are fine,” Lu Li reached out for a feather pen.
It’s just that the writing will look a bit ugly.
“It’s not for you,” Tesla was quicker and picked up a feather pen, flipping open a blank page of the notebook and said, “You talk, I’ll write.”
The Alliance Personnel had already returned to the counter.
Lu Li asked, “Is that okay?”
“Of course, it’s fine.
An organization of investigators that doesn’t taint the Sanity Value doesn’t mind things being spread around.
I’d like to hear why Thomas died.”
Lu Li paused for a few seconds, thought about where to start, and then calmly narrated, “To make money, I went out in the weird rain to look for anomalies, and for some reasons, I approached Elm Street—”
Enter the café, find problems, rescue people, summon black crows to contact the investigator, then the night watchman arrives, block the street, investigate the source of the pollutant.
Lu Li asked for a feather pen and some pages, writing them down himself while talking.
When the merchant appeared, he would directly hand these over, saving him the time of explaining again to the merchant.
Next was to confirm the source.
Thomas appeared, and I entered 33 Elm Street with him to explore.
The final result was Thomas turning a page in an ancient book, getting killed by suddenly awakened clothing.
That wasn’t the end of the story.
Lu Li continued with what happened after leaving Elm Street.
When Lu Li mentioned calling Petra’s friend to inquire about habits and getting an answer, Tesla’s feather pen stopped moving.
“That guy died a pretty meaningless death.”
Setting the feather pen aside, Lu Li waited for the ink on the paper to dry, not responding to Tesla’s reflections.
Tesla then said, “So are we going to bring some flowers to the unlucky Thomas?”
“When?”
“The news of his death probably hasn’t reached his daughter yet, maybe in three days, or perhaps in seven.
I’ll let you know then.”
After a brief silence, Lu Li nodded and said, “I’ll consider it.”
Tesla, seeing what Lu Li was thinking, smiled and said, “Don’t worry, his daughter wasn’t close to him, so you won’t have to deal with her clinging to you.”
“Call me when it’s time.”
“Mm.”
Lu Li downed his milk in one gulp, said goodbye to Tesla, and turned to leave.
Watching Lu Li walk towards the conduit channel, Tesla, who hadn’t been drinking, suddenly called out to his retreating figure, “I suddenly feel you were right.”
“About what?” Lu Li turned back and looked.
“Never mind.”
Lu Li kept looking at him.
After thinking for a moment, Tesla said, “You’ll understand what I mean after reading tomorrow’s ‘Investigator Weekly’.”
