Detective Agency of the Bizarre -
Chapter 310 - 310 167
310: 167.
Hades Bank No Interest 310: 167.
Hades Bank No Interest In the brief moment that the lid was opened, Anna and Lu Li saw the stacks of Shillings in the small treasure chest.
There were four stacks of McDonald II Shillings, each with a denomination of 100, nearly filling the space of the small treasure chest.
The height of the small chest was roughly the width of a palm.
If they got this box of treasure, the wall thickness usable at the shelter would not only be 10 centimeters—it could even be as thick as 1 meter.
Compared to Lu Li’s calm, Anna’s emotions were more evident, which made Hades count the money even more rapidly.
He didn’t even finish counting for the seventh time before placing the 1,500 Shillings on the counter and turning his head away, unable to bear looking.
Lu Li picked up the money from the counter without counting it again.
Hearing the sound of the money slipping into his pocket, Hades’ heart twitched.
He couldn’t help but look back and plead, “Promise me, take good care of them, don’t let them get moldy, and don’t touch them often…”
Under the light of the oil lamp, Hades’ lined face looked as though it had aged a dozen years.
“I will.”
Lu Li said.
Having achieved his goal, there was no longer a need for Lu Li to stay any further, and staying might further upset Hades.
Ding-a-ling—Ding-a-ling—
Amid the jingle of the wind chime, Lu Li’s figure was swallowed by the closing door.
The tavern returned to the dimness beneath the oil lamp.
Hades did not relax his emotions.
He looked around nervously and took out a pitch-black branch covered in bite marks from under the counter.
Inspiration spread outward, and the malice filling the tavern’s hall gradually surfaced, without any chilly aura nearing that of a vengeful spirit.
They had completely left.
Hades released the branch and let out a long breath, feeling as if his heart was bleeding, and he put the few remaining Shillings back into the small treasure chest.
If he had known that the guy would grow so rapidly in just a short two months, he would have asked for less money.
Now look, the original sixfold markup price of the Spirit-Calling Gun had turned into earning only one-third of the profit, equivalent to a significant loss!
Amidst his heartache, Hades suddenly froze.
He recalled the image of Lu Li’s first visit.
Lu Li hadn’t shown any emotion regarding the price Hades asked.
After cutting a trivial amount, he bought the Spirit-Calling Gun.
A chill ran up Hades’ spine.
This guy… his generosity at the beginning—could it be a ploy to come back for it later!?
With this thought in mind, Hades began to grow uneasy.
He had been demanding exorbitant prices not only on the Spirit-Calling Gun but also on the bullets.
If Lu Li found out that the information he had spent 1,000 Shillings on was not worth that sum…
Even though Hades considered it a fair exchange, a trade of mutual consent.
Agitated, pacing back and forth behind the counter, Hades suddenly made up his mind.
No!
He couldn’t stay here any longer!
…
“How many Shillings are we short?”
On the bustling street, Anna’s whisper reached Lu Li’s ear.
“We have enough,” Lu Li said.
There was even a surplus of two, three hundred Shillings.
But it was just a temporary illusion.
Lu Li still had a gap of over three cubic meters to fill.
It was very difficult for Lu Li to come up with the sum of over twenty thousand Shillings by accepting commissions or withdrawing from Hades’ bank account.
Even completing events would not suffice.
Even if Lu Li completed simple events with a 100% achievement rate, he would only gain 500 contribution points.
Clearly, being an investigator could make one knowledgeable, but not wealthy.
Lu Li had to earn this money from other sources, for instance—
A chilly breath crept into his skin from beside him, and Lu Li tilted his head slightly to see a figure clad in a black uniform step out from the crowd ahead.
The fully opened pitch-black pupils on the armband were disconcerting.
This Night Watcher stared intently at Lu Li, or rather, at the space beside Lu Li, his hand slowly moving toward his thick waist.
Lu Li understood his approach.
After a moment’s thought, he took out the Detective’s Three-Eyed Black Crow Badge from his pocket and pinned it to the chest of his coat.
The Night Watcher’s pace hesitated, his gaze lingered briefly on the badge and beside Lu Li, then his hand dropped.
He nodded to Lu Li, his “colleague,” and turned to blend back into the crowd, vanishing in the blink of an eye.
“He just spotted me,” Anna’s figure spoke up at that moment.
“I know.”
Lu Li pondered in his heart, that this Night Watcher didn’t seem like he was on a mission, rather he was patrolling or looking for something.
Was he searching for the vengeful spirit that ravaged Belfast?
Or was it a security patrol?
Whatever the case, the fact that the surroundings had become safer was indisputable.
On the way back, passing by the department store, Lu Li remembered what Hades had said about the real rainy season, and he bought another five liters of kerosene and a box of canned fruit whose price had risen.
After storing them at the Detective Agency, Lu Li went out again to buy ingredients.
This time, Anna didn’t want to follow along; probably she had had enough fun.
Some ten minutes later Lu Li returned, Anna took the ingredients from his hands and slipped into the kitchen, from where the sound of boiling water echoed.
Hanging his coat on the rack, Lu Li rolled up his sleeves and walked into the kitchen, turning on the faucet.
Beside him, Anna was personally slicing the washed carrots, her dicing movements had become much more proficient than before.
Almost shoulder to shoulder, the two squeezed into the not-so-spacious kitchen, where a faint sense of cozy domestic life began to permeate.
Anna’s eyes curved into a smile, and a tiny, inextinguishable thought surfaced from the depths of her heart, silently leaning towards Lu Li—
Anna leaned into emptiness, steadied herself upright, and stared, stunned, at Lu Li’s retreating figure leaving the kitchen after turning off the faucet.
Lu Li dried his hands and sat back down at his desk.
Just like every day, he wound the alarm clock.
Settling into his chair, Lu Li thought about the next way to make money.
It was obvious that money was hard to earn, and Lu Li didn’t have much time; perhaps a year, maybe half a year, or maybe even sooner.
Solving cases was the most obvious and also the most rewarding method, but it was very dangerous.
At least the direct or indirect experiences with Shadow Swamp and Disc Reef had left an indelible impression on Lu Li.
Although it was largely related to Lu Li’s poor luck.
So what else?
From where else could Lu Li obtain a large sum of money?
Just as this thought surfaced in his mind, it pointed towards a bewitching figure: Baron Joseph.
The newspapers had once counted that the wealth and all the properties of Baron Joseph together were worth far more than ten million.
Even one of her parties at the mansion was enough for Lu Li to buy four cubic meters of Deep Sea Stone.
Due to being entangled in a legal case, the young baron who had once visited had not disturbed Lu Li for quite some time.
But as the legal proceedings drew to a close, she would likely resume her unfinished business.
If she was still interested in Lu Li.
With his hands crossed and resting under his chin, Lu Li thought about how to get a sum of money from Baron Joseph.
Once the meat was in the pot and the lid was on, Anna came out of the kitchen.
“What are you thinking about?”
Lu Li answered, “Thinking about women.”
“???”
Lu Li briefly shared what he was pondering with Anna, who puffed her cheeks and shouted as if in a huff, “Actually, my family has a buried treasure!”
Facing Lu Li’s calm gaze, Anna abandoned the fact that the story about the treasure was something her mother had told her when she was a child, and insisted loudly.
“I’m not saying that the stuff inside is incredibly valuable…
but it will be very valuable!”
