Detective Agency of the Bizarre -
Chapter 301 - 301 One hundred and fifty-eight
301: One hundred and fifty-eight.
Raimy’s second letter 301: One hundred and fifty-eight.
Raimy’s second letter Nearing noon, Lu Li was awakened by the vibrations from several trucks driving past the window on the street outside.
Lu Li opened his eyes and looked at the ceiling, quietly assessing the condition within his body.
The motion sickness had disappeared after rest, no longer causing the sensation of being rocked as if at sea.
Without getting up, Lu Li turned his head, examining the Detective Agency from this slightly odd perspective, including the occasional appearance of phantasms.
Anna, behind the desk, looked toward Lu Li, who in turn looked toward the sculpture beside the door, “Has it been the same old thing while I was away these past few days?”
“Uh…
it should be…
I haven’t seen it move.” Anna’s voice sounded a bit guilty.
Since its return to the Detective Agency, the sculpture had stood motionless most of the time next to the coat rack.
It was hard to say whether this was good or bad, but Lu Li and Anna always subconsciously ignored its presence.
Lu Li asked Anna about the past couple of days, and she hemmed and hawed, saying that since yesterday, she had left the Detective Agency in search of ghosts, to resolve them and absorb their power for enhancement, and as a result, she had become like she was now: her strength was roughly equivalent to two or three Annas from before.
The power of ghosts really increased easily.
Then it was Lu Li’s turn to talk about his experiences over the past two days.
He had written on Oblivion Paper, so he simply recounted what he had written down.
Many details contained therein could taint Sanity Value, but Anna, being a ghost, didn’t have a Sanity Value and therefore was not affected.
“From now on, I want to stay by your side,” Anna’s resolve strengthened after hearing about the dangers Lu Li had encountered.
“Okay,”
Lu Li did not refuse, as her current strength no longer required his protection.
Nearing the wraith level, Anna could stay awake for a week with minimal consumption.
With telekinesis, she could lift Lu Li and maintain it for more than ten minutes within a twenty-meter radius of herself.
Before, she could barely sustain it for two to three minutes.
The character change that worried Lu Li had not appeared in Anna, but he still had to observe for some time to be sure.
During their conversation, Lu Li noticed a potted plant on the windowsill sprouting new shoots.
“Can you recognize what type of plant this is?” Anna asked with a hint of pride in her voice, as if she was boasting.
Looking at the tender shoots, Lu Li said, “It might be a tree sapling or a cactus.”
Disheartened to hear it was not the fresh flower she liked, Anna still pursed the matter with interest, “Why?”
“Because only those two types of plants can withstand being watered every day,”
Lu Li answered.
The weariness completely dissipated from his body, and Lu Li sat up, bent over to put on his shoes, walked over to the desk, and sat down to begin the day’s serious work.
As Lu Li got up, Anna had already courteously vacated her spot and, holding the romance novel, sat down on the still-warm sofa.
Although she couldn’t feel
Ten newspapers, one letter, a stack as thick as a thumb.
Nine of the newspapers were the daily news from the past three days, along with an issue of the Investigators’ Weekly.
The Investigators’ Weekly was on top, showing signs of having been flipped through, while the other nine ordinary newspapers looked nearly pristine, as fresh as if they had just come off the press, obviously Anna had little interest in the news.
Lu Li first picked up the letter, signed by Raimy & Jimmy, with a stamp from Arlenbeth County, indicating they were still there when the letter was sent.
“The postman delivered it yesterday afternoon,” Anna said, glancing over here.
Lu Li tore open the wax seal and took out the letter inside.
A pine scent spilled from the paper, originating from the pine needles pressed between the sheets.
Due to prolonged pressure, their juices had been squeezed out and stuck to the paper—that was the source of the fragrance.
Indeed, pines are the only plants that still retain their green color in the harsh environment of today, but it’s a pity that the climate and terrain of Belfast aren’t suitable for forests to thrive; only a few Noble Manors have planted some.
[Dear Lu Li]
[We have traveled to Pineleaf Town.]
[Just as you once told us, the Ailen Peninsula is indeed beautiful.
My brother and I saw the sea and the pine forests, and seeing green at this time is truly a pleasant sight.]
[Unfortunately, we couldn’t stay here any longer.
Brother, that idiot, accidentally let the townsfolk see the monster hiding in the carriage, so to avoid trouble, we had to hastily leave the beautiful Pineleaf Town.
Not everyone is as kind to us as you are.
I heard Belfast doesn’t have pines, so I put a pine needle in the letter, hoping you would like it]
[Our next stop is Essex County, where they say gold is mined.
Maybe in the next letter, we can put a few grains of Gold Sand in.
Please wait a moment, my brother wants to say something to you…]
[Hello Lu Li, thank you for saving Raimy, you are my best friend.
Please let us know if you’re in any trouble.]
[Don’t scorn his handwriting.
His monster body has absorbed too many nutrients, making his human body very weak, and holding a pen is very clumsy.
Anyway, we will write to you once we reach the city in Essex County.]
[Your good friends, Raimy & Jimmy.]
The content of the letter ended here.
The Pineleaf Town Raimy spoke of lies at the easternmost edge of Arlenbeth County, less than 300 miles from Belfast.
Essex County is a bit closer.
Lu Li flipped open the map, looking for the Essex County town nearest to Pineleaf Town—a small town called Insmouth, rich in gold and fish.
This letter from Raimy & Jimmy was not the reply Lu Li had been expecting.
Had his letter not been received by them yet?
Or could it be that it would never be received?
This would determine if they really existed, but at the moment, all Lu Li could do was wait for Raimy & Jimmy to send a new letter to confirm.
Then there were the newspapers from the past three days; Lu Li began with the three editions from Monday, followed by Tuesday, and Wednesday.
In the first two days, the Immortal Giant remained missing.
On the third day, there was a new development—not that the Immortal Giant had been found, but that the naval ships sent by the Lennon Archipelago Duchy had also lost contact.
People began to grow uneasy, and a large number of ships that would pass by Tillage Garden Seaview Cape were changing their course to avoid the area.
By now, it was almost certain that the Immortal Giant had encountered something dreadful near Tillage Garden.
So far, most of the public still knew very little about the strange occurrences, partially due to the government’s intention—they didn’t want to plunge the public into panic, leading to urban collapse.
So even if there were any new or real news about the Immortal Giant, it wouldn’t appear in the conventional newspapers for the masses to know.
Instead, only the usual news that can be seen everywhere was published, such as the unfortunate family of three that perished in the night due to a damaged oil lamp, or the case against Baron Joseph drawing to a close, with the plaintiff to be convicted for false accusation.
Perhaps Lu Li could find the real answer in the Detective Weekly.
Thinking this, Lu Li picked up the one-page Detective Weekly and unfolded it to read.
