The monster that staged a comeback and the little girl [Unity, Wisdom, Strength]
[You have each proven your own advantages]
[And now, there is still one essential thing you are lacking]
[Trust]
The deep narrative voice slowly rose.
[Investigators are individuals, yet also a collective.
We yearn for freedom and assist each other.
Nothing is more important than solving cases—except for companions]
[It is inevitable that we will encounter companions at some relic site or eerie location.
Acting on one’s own often means trouble, and the temporary cooperation of two investigators who have never met before makes it difficult to fully trust the other]
[So the final test for you all will be “trust”]
[Learn to trust your companions, even if you have never met them before]
As the voice fell, the wooden door of the final challenge slowly opened before their eyes, and a rich darkness surged behind the door.
[After each person enters, the door will automatically close until that person has made their choice.]
“I’ll go first!”
Owen suddenly shouted, stepping in front of Doma.
“I’ll go in first and analyze the situation.”
“If possible, I’ll try to send you information.” Owen didn’t say this sentence out loud; he hurriedly rushed into the pitch-black wooden door.
The next moment, the door automatically closed, plunging the surroundings into pitch-black silence.
Thump—thump—thump-thump—thump-thump—
In the thick darkness, Owen couldn’t suppress the fear that rose within him, his heart beating rapidly.
Trust…
to believe in companions, to trust investigators…
Owen suppressed the fear in his heart.
One second…
three seconds…
five seconds…
The persisting darkness lasted for a full ten seconds or more.
Just as Owen was about to turn around and go back because of fear, a ray of light broke into the darkness.
Everything around him gradually brightened, like a person waking up and opening their eyes.
The overhead lights emitted dim lights, the cold light from narrow windows poured in, and in the rest area, apart from the Alliance Personnel behind the counter, there was no one else.
He was back in the starting lobby.
The door behind him was one of the many wooden doors on the left.
[Four monsters and a little girl appear before you]
Owen followed the prompt and looked over.
Five proportional portraits were pasted on the wall under the window.
The first was a strange monster like a brushwood, the second a massive monster, the third a twisted specter, the fourth a pitiful little girl holding a doll, and the fifth a fish-like figure holding a trident.
The four monsters surrounded the little girl, fearsome and ferocious.
[You are now faced with a piece of good news and a piece of bad news.
The bad news is, you only have time to kill one of them.
The good news is, your companions will come to help later.
Now, please choose the monster you want to kill]
So that’s how it is!
Analyze the characteristics of your companions, then trust each other, and finally, the five of you successfully kill off the four monsters!
Owen’s gaze swept over the four monsters.
Doma would likely be the next one out, and with her personality, she would attack the biggest and most ferocious monster.
Owen tagged the second massive monster with Doma’s label.
The third would be Fulando, the fool who doesn’t need reminding to trust his companions.
Perhaps he would follow the order of emergence and attack the third monster.
The remaining Daniel and Lu Li would be the fourth and fifth.
Although they were silent, they were smart people and would likely analyze their own and Doma’s choices, opting to attack the remaining two monsters…
Unexpectedly simple, isn’t it…
Thinking so, Owen confidently spoke, “I’ll attack the first monster.”
[Please proceed to the rest area and wait]
That’s it?
Nothing happened.
Owen went back to the rest area and sat down, stunned.
Soon, he saw a second figure come out from behind the door, but it wasn’t Doma.
[Four monsters and a little girl appear in front of you.]
Owen faintly heard the narrator’s voice.
He saw Frank looking around, saw himself in the rest area, and waved over.
“How come this idiot came out…”
A flicker of worry appeared at the bottom of the confident Owen’s heart; this was not what he had expected.
Not far away, Frank listened quietly to the narration and, without thinking, shouted, “I’ll fight the second monster!”
“Just as I thought…” Owen sighed.
To some extent, what Frank did was not wrong.
Choosing the second was indeed the correct choice—but Frank had overlooked one thing: behind the door, there was Doma, a battle fanatic, eyeing him eagerly.
Having made his choice, Frank walked toward the rest area.
Seeing Owen’s frown, he was somewhat puzzled and a bit worried, “What’s wrong?”
“Where’s Doma?” Owen did not answer but asked instead.
“She wanted to bring out the corpse of the dwarf puppet but was stopped by the person in charge, so I came out first.”
How could anyone have anticipated this situation…
Owen’s sighs were increasing as he said to Frank, “You shouldn’t have attacked the second monster; I was saving that one for Doma.”
Owen simply explained the reasoning to Owen and looked toward the wooden door that was opening again and the figure that emerged.
“There’s still a chance.
There are two monsters left, and we have three people left…
or rather, two.”
The grim reality that Owen had anticipated happened, with Doma inevitably choosing the second, massive monster.
Two monsters left, two people left.
The fourth to come out of the trial room was Daniel.
After standing still for several seconds waiting for the narrator to introduce the situation, he chose the third monster, the twisted ghost.
Only Lu Li was left, along with the humanoid monster holding a trident.
“Lu Li won’t let us down…
probably.”
Owen held little hope.
He certainly didn’t underestimate Lu Li, but he couldn’t find any reason why Lu Li would strike the fourth monster.
A one-in-four chance…
was this just up to luck now?
[Four monsters and a little girl appear in front of you.]
Through the faint narration, Owen and Frank watched tensely to see what was happening on Lu Li’s side.
[You are now faced with good news and bad news.
The bad news is, you only have time to kill one of them.
The good news is, your companions have killed one or some of these monsters before this point.]
[You can’t be certain what your companions have done, and the heavy burden weighs on your shoulders.
Now, please choose your target.]
Lu Li’s gaze shifted from the four people in the rest area and settled on four portraits affixed to the opposite wall.
“I attack the fourth one.”
The calm voice of Lu Li was heard.
In the quiet hall without any noise, this statement was clearly audible to the few people in the rest area.
Owen couldn’t help but clench his fists and let out an excited cheer, “We did it!”
“Nicely done, Lu Li!” Frank cupped his hands to his mouth and shouted loudly.
[So the target of your attack is the last portrait?]
The narrator’s voice asked for confirmation.
Lu Li frowned and answered, “No, it’s the little girl in the fourth portrait.”
Frank and Owen, who had just raised their hands in cheer, suddenly froze.
