Detective Agency of the Bizarre
Chapter 159 - 159 Seventeen

159: Seventeen.

Justice above all 159: Seventeen.

Justice above all Anna’s reaction was much slower than Lu Li’s.

By the time his palm had reached behind his waist, ready to draw the flintlock pistol, Anna had just begun to look towards the chilling voice.

It was a spectral shadow hiding in an alleyway beside the apartment, somewhat solidifying in the dim light.

Lu Li looked at the translucent figure, “Are you the ghost mentioned by the client?”

“Yes, it is I, sir…”

The ghost moved back a little, responding with a hint of fear.

The ghost’s hair was disheveled, and her skin showed streaks of blue and purple bruises; one of her calves was twisted outwards, forming an unnatural angle.

Her purple tight dress was severely damaged, wet and clinging to her body, with water dripping down.

Everything was preserved from the moment just before her death.

“I am Lu Li.”

The word “sir” sounded somewhat peculiar.

The spirit, with a hint of fear in her expression, trembled, and a glimmer of hope shone in her eyes, “What do you mean, sir…

Lu Li, sir?”

“Tell me what happened,” Lu Li paused slightly at the scars on her face.

“Or shall I try to guess?”

The mere appearance of the ghost allowed Lu Li to suspect there was more to the story.

“Oh…

okay,” the ghost nodded, a flicker of memory crossing her pale cheeks as she spoke slowly, “I was a…

bartender at Phantom Bar.”

Most girls would subconsciously steer clear of bars, places with a somewhat sleazy reputation, especially Rum Street.

The ghost was among them, but girls born into the lower classes could rarely find better jobs, much like her.

Although the bar was chaotic, the high salary was exactly what most people needed.

So this girl, pure as a blank sheet of paper, plunged herself into the world of grown-ups’ vices, like a small boat in a storm trying to fend off the external turmoil.

At first, there were no problems, nothing happened.

The bar’s patrons, though loud and crude, liked to tease the waitresses, but it stopped there—after all, they preferred the cheap company of women sitting in the corners, scantily clad and heavily made up.

This was the norm in most bars, where proprietors didn’t appreciate troublemakers.

And the owner of the bar where the girl worked happened to be a stern yet gentle man.

She was attacked on her way home.

The ghost became choked up, struggling to continue.

Her current dreadful state spoke volumes; she had been dragged into an alley to satisfy beastly lusts.

And after the men had sated their desires and the beastly nature and drunkenness subsided, realization of what they had done dawned on them – regret surging in their hearts—that was, of course, not the case.

They recognized the girl, knew she was an employee under “Red Eye,” and to avoid trouble with the Police Station and Red Eye, they simply took her to the seaside at night.

Despite her cries and pleas for mercy, they bound her with stones and tossed her into the sea.

Her leg had been twisted at that time.

Her desire to live and her resentment turned her into a ghost; she found those who had killed her, but…

her vengeance failed.

Though she was a ghost, she was not strong enough.

Apart from giving those ruffians a bit of a scare, she couldn’t do much else.

Especially after they became cautious and decided to seek an Exorcist to deal with the situation.

Hence, Lu Li arrived, and she watched from a distance.

After Lu Li left the apartment, she couldn’t help but confront him, questioning why he would help those bastards.

Her presence was very weak, even weaker than Anna’s, before she became strong.

People who are timid at heart don’t carry much resentment.

“What bastards!”

Anna gritted her teeth, unable to keep from cursing out loud.

Lu Li didn’t say much, instead asking other questions, “They say you don’t come out during the day.”

“I hide during the day…” the ghost answered weakly.

Lu Li looked at her, “You’re too kind-hearted; I don’t see any resentment in you… do you truly want revenge?”

The ghost’s lips quivered, but no words came out.

She hung her head low until Lu Li approached the alley, drew the flintlock pistol, and a chilling feeling pressed against her forehead.

No one would be at the bar getting drunk in broad daylight, especially not when it was raining.

This meant there were few pedestrians on the street, and they were unlikely to notice what was happening in the alley.

“I still…

feel so reluctant.”

Just as Lu Li was about to make his move, a faint whisper like that of a mosquito rang out.

As the voice sounded, the flintlock pistol pressed against his forehead was suddenly withdrawn, and the man with the black eyes calmly said, “I remember we still have unfinished business to deal with, should we take care of it first?”

She looked up in surprise, seeing Lu Li turn his head to inquire of another very pretty ghost Miss next to him.

“What business?” Anna asked subconsciously, her gaze shifting back and forth between Lu Li and the girl several times until she finally had a realization and tapped her head, “Oh~ right, I remember now; let’s hurry along then!”

“Let’s leave her here for now, and we will come back after we’ve dealt with the other matters.” After fastening his gun holster, Lu Li walked past Anna toward the distance.

“Mhm.” Anna floated after him, her form gradually fading.

The ghost stared blankly at Lu Li and his disappearing silhouette, biting her lip, bowing her head, her body trembling lightly.

“Thank you…

thank you…”

When she looked up again, her face was tear-streaked.

“Didn’t you just say that rules are…”

Curiosity filled Anna’s voice at Lu Li’s ear.

“Not everything is black and white; the more elements involved, the greater the possibility of anomalies.” Lu Li turned his head, showing his profile.

“I just happen to believe in justice.”

“Won’t she harm innocent people?” Anna furrowed her brows in concern.

She agreed with Lu Li’s actions but felt that not setting any restrictions could pose some risks.

“Remember Mishelia?

She was the same.” Lu Li simply replied.

No matter what, Lu Li would continue to monitor the situation here.

If the girl lost control, he would intervene; if the girl failed, Lu Li would handle it in his own way.

For instance, by calling the police.

When he returned to the Detective Agency, the telephone on the desk was ringing nonstop.

It was Watch Town Police Station’s Deputy Chief Valentin calling.

There was news about the matter Lu Li asked him to keep an eye on.

In the Tuna District of Watch Town,

Lu Li knocked on the door of a detached house.

Some noises came through the door, but no one came to open it.

After waiting for several seconds, Lu Li knocked on the door again.

Swoosh—

The sound of disarray made Lu Li frown slightly, followed by a stern yell from behind the door.

“Is—is that you!”

Lu Li spoke up: “I’m a detective from the Watch Town Police Station; I want to inquire about your missing wife.”

Footsteps approached from inside, the peephole darkened, and then the door was pulled open.

The young man with bloodshot eyes and dark circles, as if he hadn’t rested properly for a long time, stood at the door holding a wooden stick, with the smell of disinfectant emanating from inside.

He shouted in fear, “Don’t…

don’t!

You don’t have to get involved in this anymore, please don’t let her come back, I beg you…

let her leave for good!”

Lu Li and Anna exchanged looks.

Things had changed.
