Detective Agency of the Bizarre
Chapter 150 - 150 Eight

150: Eight.

They’re here 150: Eight.

They’re here Joel was slightly surprised that Valentine brought the materials back himself, instead of sending a police officer to do it for him.

It seems that although this guy is timid, he also has his own principles.

Lu Li took the materials, which listed the missing population in Watch Town and around the Asylum, with a few names crossed out.

This wasn’t because these people were dead, but rather because they had been found and no longer counted as missing.

There was also a document Lu Li hadn’t mentioned; it contained all the information about Richard, including the organization he established during his time at the Asylum—there were four people in total, including Richard, and the corpulent ghost Lu Li encountered was one of them.

Lu Li pondered the contents of the documents, noting down the names that were crossed out and the other two aside from the corpulent ghost, and handed back the materials, “Can I investigate this privately?”

Joel took them, handing them to Valentine in turn, “What have you thought of?”

“I have some leads,” Lu Li nodded without concealment.

“So I want to give it a try.”

“You’ve already seen the stuff, what do you think?” Joel’s mouth curled up, the man who was always by the book seemed to smile briefly.

The permission was granted so smoothly that Lu Li didn’t expect it at all, “I thought you would be very keen on secrecy, and dislike others meddling in your affairs.”

“That is indeed the case, but due to certain recent events that led to a severe staff shortage, having an Exorcist willing to lend a hand is more than welcome.”

Joel’s brows relaxed slightly, but when his gaze fell on the wailing shadow behind the iron bars, gloom reemerged, and his murmured words were nearly inaudible amidst the desperate screams,

“After all, our goals are aligned…

right?”

Inside and outside the iron bars, it was as though there were two worlds—the tragic scene seemingly unable to touch Lu Li, who remained expressionless, indifferent as if devoid of emotion, calmly speaking, “What will happen to them?”

“They will be cared for, until they die in agony,” Joel said, staring at a violently struggling shadow.

“Because they have done nothing wrong, we can’t end their lives in a quick and painless way.

It’s lucky I am a night watchman, if I go mad I’ll have companions to…

never mind.”

Joel shook his head, choosing not to continue.

“Do you know about the door?” Lu Li suddenly asked.

“What is that?”

“Seems like it’s also a Homogeneous Item, nothing much.”

Lu Li mentioned it in passing, and Joel didn’t care, nor did he mind bringing Lu Li down without obtaining the clues he wanted.

He said to Lu Li and Valentine, “Let’s leave, staying here too long does have some effects.”

“The stars are about to align!!!”

Suddenly, an almost frenzied roar overpowered the cries, resounding clearly in the chaotic basement.

Vinson struggled madly with his limbs bound, his face contorted.

His throat had long since swollen from the relentless screaming, and as he roared, pus and mucus mixed with blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.

The man who had conversed with Lu Li now had bulging eyes, his chest rising like an arched bridge.

This was his final outcry, and as his voice faded, his body heavily fell back onto the stretcher bed, whispering an almost inaudible murmur as he breathed like a fleeting thread,

“They are awake…”

It all happened within a few seconds.

By the time the staff reached Vinson’s side, his staring eyes had already become vacant, lifelessly fixating on the uneven stone ceiling above.

It was uncertain whether he longed for one last glimpse of the sky or to see the stars he mentioned returning to their places.

The staff buzzed around Vinson for a while, eventually covering him with a white sheet, signifying that Officer Vinson was no longer breathing.

“Let’s go.”

Joel turned his head calmly, saying to Valentine, who was shocked, and to the equally calm Lu Li.

Leaving the Police Station, Lu Li squinted slightly, tilting his head toward the dreary sky that drizzled with fine rain.

He exhaled softly, seemingly dispelling the oppression that had infected him in the basement.

A rental carriage was parked not far away, but Lu Li didn’t go to it; instead, he turned and walked toward a phone booth.

Ring-ring-ring-ring—

The Weird And Multicolored Detective Agency’s phone wouldn’t stop ringing.

Anna, bored out of her mind, floated into the living room to answer the phone, and Lu Li’s voice came from the speaker: “Can you leave the house on your own?”

“Eh?

I…

I’m a little scared.”

“Okay,” Lu Li didn’t say much, hung up the phone, and then called Jojo: “Go to the Detective Agency, take Anna with you, and deliver her to Watch Town.”

“No problem!

When should I do that?”

“Now.”

Of course, Lu Li had to find Richard.

The indescribable thing on him, akin to a curse, originated from Richard’s conspiracy.

Richard wanted to use the gate to deal with him, which meant he must know something.

Fortunately, Lu Li also knew something.

Richard tried to let ghosts possess living humans, and he indeed succeeded.

Those ghosts successfully took over the bodies of the living and continued to live on using those bodies.

But Richard wouldn’t know that Lu Li had deduced his resurrection plan and obtained a piece of information from the Police Station: the document contained information about other members of Richard’s team.

O’Connor, Ulysses, Hol, and their current names: Brian, Luke.

Ulysses was the obese ghost, it wanted to take over Lu Li’s body, but ended up being taken care of by Lu Li instead.

The addresses of Brian and Luke were embedded in Lu Li’s mind.

Finding them would allow Lu Li to trace his way back to Richard.

Knock-knock-knock—

In Watch Town, someone knocked on the door of a private residence.

After a dozen seconds, the peephole darkened as someone on the other side peered out.

Seconds later, the peephole cleared, and with a soft click, the door opened.

“May I ask who you are?” Brian, dressed in home clothes and wearing an apron around his waist, asked cluelessly.

“You should recognize me,” Lu Li said calmly, but to Anna, his words were laden with meaning.

After arriving at Watch Town, Lu Li told Anna what had happened.

“Sorry, I don’t think I’ve seen you before…” Brian said with his thick glasses, looking innocently honest.

“Watch Town Police Station officer, I’ve contacted you before.”

“Oh, oh, oh that’s right, maybe I didn’t recognize you without your uniform, please come in.” Brian stepped aside, and they entered—one man, one ghost — only then did they hear the sound of frying in the kitchen.

“Please wait a moment, I’ll take care of it.” Brian said with a simple smile, rubbed his nose with the back of his relatively dry hand, and hurried back to the kitchen.

“He seems fine…” Anna, who hid her presence and stayed close by, whispered into Lu Li’s ear.

“Bad guys won’t wear a sign saying ‘bad guys’, especially for those who have taken over someone else’s body,” said Lu Li, glancing around the reasonably cozy room.
