Chapter 128 - 128 128
128: 128.
Trials Begin (Modified) 128: 128.
Trials Begin (Modified) The moment the voice in his mind disappeared, everyone’s vision returned to normal.
The first thing that caught their eyes was the decayed and dilapidated training classroom, followed by an awkward viewpoint—the participants realized they had become someone else.
After looking around and seeing everyone had changed, they felt a slight relief.
It seemed to still be during the break, the teacher hadn’t arrived, and the classroom was noisy and bustling, so it wasn’t odd for some participants to turn their heads and scream.
Once calmed, they noticed there were unusually many people in the classroom, and then some remembered what the Taoist priest had said about this place being filled with ghosts…
The participants’ hearts skipped a beat.
Was the trial getting a bit too intense…
Packing so many ghosts and still expecting survival till dawn?
Out of the forty-eight trainee students, twenty-five were ghosts.
Outside the classroom, several faint yin energies lingered, likely the training teachers or staff of this training room.
Lu Li looked around silently and then withdrew his gaze.
He sat in the front row by the wall, looking like a calm man with black hair and black eyes.
Although still an adult, his appearance had changed.
And perhaps due to being in the Illusion Array, all of Lu Li’s personal belongings had disappeared, except for the Ghost Envoy Manual.
“Does anyone know about Jinlongyu Mountain?”
A shout, and a man suddenly stood up.
“I know…”
A chilling voice echoed in his ear.
Just as his face brightened with joy, a severe pain emanated from his lower abdomen.
Amidst screams of shock, the participant dumbly looked down, only to see a filthy hand full of mud pulling a clump of intestines out of his stomach.
“Why…
why…?” He stared blankly at his deskmate, the emotion momentarily overshadowing the pain of being gutted.
His deskmate didn’t answer, but instead yanked violently.
The sudden intense pain jerked the participant awake.
Before he could say anything, his entire body convulsed in agony as if his muscles were being extracted.
The participant’s eyes rolled back, and blood splattered onto the surrounding desks, floors, and students.
There were screams of avoidance, and some even licked the blood.
Thud—
Creak—
The participant collapsed, knocking the desk and chair askew, and fell into a pool of blood.
His eyes were wide open, still not understanding what had happened, his body occasionally twitching.
The remaining participants felt a chill all over, the screaming ones suppressing their fear, their eyes panicking.
The ones who had thought this was merely a formation trick and that nobody could really die, hesitated upon seeing the bloody scene.
The deskmate who had killed the participant slumped back into his seat, satisfied.
His chin, palm, and clothing were smeared with sticky, thick blood, making him appear more terrifying and revolting than a ghost—because he combined the two most detestable beings in the world.
In the brief silence that followed, another man suddenly stood up, his breath unsteady, and shouted, “Jinlongyu oil—”
The woman in front of him suddenly twisted her mouth into a grin, revealing a row of sharp, menacing teeth as she violently pounced on him.
“Aaaah, chh, chh—”
The screams lasted only a few seconds before being replaced by choking sounds as the participant coughed up a large amount of blood, his pupils gradually dilating.
The ghost creature in the form of a woman crouched over his corpse, tearing at his throat and swallowing the blood.
Martin watched everything happening in front of his desk, silently wiping away the blood that had splashed onto his face.
How had they been detected?
He bowed his head in thought, a sudden idea entering his mind.
Indeed, Jinlongyu Taoist temple was the organizer of the trial, and all these ghost creatures were brought in by them.
Mentioning Jinlongyu Taoist temple in front of these haunted houses was practically seeking death…
Not many players grasped the truth; most found that the Ghost Creatures killed indiscriminately, and after two players were devoured by Ghost Creatures in a gruesome manner, they became silent as if chilled to the bone, not daring to make a sound anymore.
“Are you here to participate in the trial too?”
A low voice suddenly asked from the right side, and Martin frowned, stealing a glance.
Sitting in the third seat by the wall, a demure girl softly asked her deskmate.
Her deskmate, feeling terrified, was delighted to hear the question and replied excitedly in a suppressed voice, “Yes, I am from Qinmiao Temple…”
“Found you.”
A chilling voice suddenly emerged from her mouth, the player was stunned, suddenly froze all over, and his consciousness instantly parted from his body, slumping over the desk.
Blood splattered from his chest.
The Ghost Creature coldly laughed as it stuffed the heart it had ripped out back in, but it was already useless.
Before the class had officially begun, three of the twenty-three players had already been reduced, their fate unknown.
But it wasn’t all bad news.
The deaths of the three players reminded the rest that Ghost Creatures are intelligent, can hide, and even know how to disguise…
The players couldn’t be sure who was a Ghost Creature and who was a player, and for those who came forward to reveal their origins, who knew if it was a trap.
Under these circumstances, it was virtually impossible to reveal one’s identity to others, as it was likely to be discovered.
Perhaps only those who were extremely familiar with each other could attempt to recognize their companions.
The players did not dare to act rashly for a short time, even though everyone suspected that the trial might be a hallucination, but…
what if it was real?
“Why aren’t you talking…”
A curious inquiry sounded beside his ear.
Lu Li tilted his head to look at his deskmate, a girl in her early 20s with slightly blond hair, her clothes full of patches, and her eyes dark and lively.
But she was a ghost.
“I died from talking too much,” Lu Li replied succinctly.
The hearts of the surrounding players skipped a beat, thinking that Lu Li was doomed.
But a second went by, then ten seconds, and nothing happened.
They didn’t understand why there was no issue this time; perhaps it didn’t trigger the fatal plotline?
Or maybe this one…
also was a ghost.
Tap tap tap—
Just then, the echoing click of high heels came from the corridor outside the door.
The Ghost Creatures swiftly sat upright, and the players, unclear on who was arriving, followed suit.
Only three fragmented corpses lay in the classroom, ignored by all.
Tap tap tap—
Squeak—
The sound of high heels approached outside, pushing open the classroom door.
It was a middle-aged female in a dark blue business suit dress.
She walked up to the podium with a warm smile.
“Hello, students.
Today is the first day of class, and you don’t know each other yet.
Let’s start with introductions; I’ll go first.
My name is Song Hongfang, 39 years old, your homeroom and literature teacher.
My cause of death is…”
Her warm smile vanished, and a sinister, malicious aura emanated from her, her eyes gradually filling with white.
Drip drip drip drip—
Suddenly, the sound of water began, and Song Hongfang’s clothing rapidly became damp, dripping downward.
“Crime of passion, my husband had an affair.
He and his mistress plotted to lure me to the West City Reservoir and pushed me into the water to drown me, to claim my life insurance.”
As her icy voice fell, Song Hongfang’s hair and clothes were completely soaked, a pool of water formed at her feet, the ghastly white eyeballs turning towards Lu Li by the wall in the first row.
“Now it’s your turn, students.”
