Detective Agency of the Bizarre
Chapter 115 - 115 Speed of Life and Death

115: Speed of Life and Death 115: Speed of Life and Death He settled into the driver’s seat, the cold cushion bringing a slight chill.

Taking advantage of some free time, Lu Li released Yang Chunxue.

“Time within the Ghost Envoy Manual knows no bounds.

One second it was deep into the night, the next it’s the break of dawn.” Yang Chunxue seemed to sigh with a hint of complaint as she was let out for some air, her eyes distant and wistful.

“So, you and that old ghost made it out of the Ghost House alive?”

She said something pointless, akin to greeting a familiar person who just woke up with “Awake?” or seeing a familiar person eating and asking “Eating?”

Pointless, yet indispensable.

“Go on, tell me, quick.” Yang Chunxue floated to the passenger seat, poised and eager to listen.

Lu Li started the car, and the ignited engine let out a deep and throaty roar as the dashboard lit up.

He removed the Bagua Jade Pendant hanging around his neck, placing it on the dashboard.

A mercury-like liquid flowed, converging at Sun, the three o’clock direction.

“Good.”

Lu Li gripped the steering wheel tightly and stomped on the accelerator.

Beast-like roaring sounds echoed throughout the entire mountain road.

The rumbling reverberated through the mountains and forests, stirring numerous birds into flight and drawing startled glances from other drivers on the road.

The fiery red streamlined car body shot out like an arrow released from its bow.

The lush mountain forests beyond the guardrail passed by as mere phantoms, quickly left far behind and out of sight.

The dashboard’s needle pointed to a current speed of 120 kilometers per hour.

For a modified sports car, this wasn’t fast, even most vehicles on the highway were quicker.

But on mountain roads with a bend every three hundred meters and a sharp turn every five hundred, that’s a different story.

The windows of the sports car’s cockpit were rolled down, an arm casually resting on the edge.

A young man with dyed golden short hair handled the steering wheel with one hand, driving what for outsiders seemed an extreme sport at a leisurely pace.

Only upon approaching curves did he briefly slow down, elegantly maneuvering through the turns before accelerating once more.

Tiger Head Mountain’s terrain wasn’t treacherous, but its winding mountain road was noteworthy in underground racing circles.

There were only one or two large bends, but dozens of smaller ones stretched continuously along the road, ideal for rookie racers just starting out.

Like the nearly 180-degree hairpin turn just ahead.

“Hold on tight, don’t blame me if your phone falls out.” The young man with golden hair stared intently at the road that disappeared suddenly ahead, slightly turning his head to warn.

“Hey, no drifting while you’ve got passengers!” complained the strikingly dressed woman in the back seat, briefly putting away her phone.

The young man with golden hair grinned with a devilish smirk, choosing not to respond.

The speed dropped below one hundred and then steadied at eighty.

Just as the young man reached for the handbrake, a white shadow suddenly appeared from the outside of the lane, darting forward at an almost terrifying speed towards the bend!

The golden-haired young man was startled, instinctively slamming on the brakes.

The sharp screech of the tires echoed through the air as the sports car skidded across the road for several meters, leaving two dark streaks behind before coming to an abrupt halt.

The fiery red, brand-new sports car stopped on the mountain road.

The inertia caused both occupants to lurch forward.

The golden-haired young man leaned back into his seat, exclaiming in shock, “Damn, that was like seeing a ghost!”

A few dozen meters ahead, the guardrail of the bend was intact, and the white car was nowhere in sight, only clear tire marks proved that everything before was not an illusion.

“Why did you suddenly stop?

Ouch, my nose hurts so bad…” A pained cry came from behind, the striking woman holding her nose as tears welled up in her eyes.

Gasping for breath, the young man’s face was one of disbelief: “A car…

A car passed me!”

The woman complained, “So many people race around here, isn’t it normal for someone to overtake you?”

“It was on the bend, it didn’t even slow down, and that car looked like…”

The golden-haired young man left the chilling sight unspoken.

He had seen many modified cars, especially those modified to resemble the AE86 Toyota, but what was up with this Xiali car that only their parents’ generation would drive…?

The woman misinterpreted his reaction, her eyes slightly cool with excitement as she blurted out, “Is it a racing god?”

“I don’t know if he’s a racing god or not…” the blond youth said with a complex tone, giving his sincere opinion on the car that had taken a hairpin turn at a speed of over 100 kilometers per hour.

“But I guess he must be a madman.”

“Such a warm family just like that…” Yang Chunxue’s eyes reddened with sentiment, her aura chilling, “Evil spirits must die!”

Having said that, she realized that she might have included herself in that statement, so she quickly added, “Uh…

evil spirits!”

However, with that addition, her momentum had already weakened to almost nothing.

“Ahem…” Yang Chunxue coughed a few times, feeling somewhat embarrassed, but then, belatedly realizing that the car was speeding almost as if it were flying at low altitude on the highway, she exclaimed in shock, “So fast…

Slow, slow down a bit, it’s too quick!”

“You are a ghost.”

Even at such speeds, Lu Li’s expression remained calm, and his voice steady.

“Oh right…” Yang Chunxue came back to her senses.

After experiencing being hit by a car and sliced by the Tiger-Head Sickle, the prospect of a car accident due to speeding no longer caused her much psychological stress…

Wait.

“I might be fine, but what about you?”

“I’m not looking to die on purpose,” Lu Li replied.

What he meant was that Lu Li didn’t believe he was in any danger.

“Right…” Yang Chunxue realized again.

Lu Li seemed the type to cherish life and health.

“But why are you driving so fast?”

“Looking for someone.”

“Who are you looking for, a new client?”

“That’s another story.”

Yang Chunxue fell silent for a few seconds, then flashed a smile she thought was quite charming, “I have time, do you have a story?”

“Pass it to me!”

On a grassy field, over twenty children chased a black-and-white soccer ball as they ran.

This group of children was fully kitted out, divided into red and blue teams.

Even the sidelines had a referee dressed in uniform, blowing a whistle.

The child who shouted for the ball received it and kicked the leather ball forward as he ran.

A figure suddenly appeared in front of him, he collided with it without noticing, and both fell to the ground.

Whistle—

The referee blew the whistle and walked onto the field with a flag.

He first gave the child who had collided with another a yellow card, then made his judgment, “Foul by the red team, penalty kick for the blue team.”

The children gathered around the goal, about a dozen meters out, and a blue team youngster took the shot, aiming straight for the middle, and the young goalkeeper easily caught it, holding the ball to his chest.

“Wow!”

The red team’s players cheered as they rushed towards the goal.

The young goalkeeper, clutching the ball, awaited the praise of his teammates charging towards him, when suddenly, a deep roar erupted from the distance.

The children and coach looked instinctively in the direction of the sound.

A white car appeared like lightning, ignoring the road and barreling straight onto the field, crossing right through the center of the grass, and driving off into the distance.

The children stood there dumbfounded, speechless for a long time.

Some stared blankly at the ground, which seemed plowed like upturned soil, while others gazed at the fading vehicle.

“Coach!

I don’t want to play soccer anymore!”

Just then, the young goalkeeper dropped the soccer ball, and with a mouth missing two teeth, he mumbled loudly.
