Detective Agency of the Bizarre -
Chapter 110 - 110 One hundred ten
110: One hundred ten.
Drive out 110: One hundred ten.
Drive out Lu Li, having nothing else to do, stopped playing the piano.
He sat sideways on the stool, facing the door, quietly waiting for the footsteps’ owner to approach.
The kitchen knife was tightly held in his right hand, which he kept hidden behind his back.
The footsteps had grown very near, and just as they reached the door, the sound suddenly disappeared, plunging the dim corridor into dead silence.
At that moment, a dry, blackened hand appeared outside the door, grabbing the edge of the door frame.
Soon after, a dark head peeked around the corner, its face bearing a sinister, almost smiling expression, peering inside.
In the dim room lit only by a flashlight, a figure quietly peeking in from the doorway was undeniably frightening—Lu Li, expressionless, stared quietly at it.
Fear is predicated on a sense of crisis, but this ghost had not brought any danger to Lu Li.
Trapped like a turtle in a jar, Lu Li wanted to lure it inside, but he regretfully found that he could not express emotions like “fear” or “panic.” Thus, he tried a different approach.
“Ah, how terrifying, what should I do, am I going to die, someone please save me.”
With a calm demeanor and steady voice, Lu Li spoke those words to the ghost outside the door.
The ghost remained immobile, still quietly observing Lu Li.
Abandoning the idea of enticing the enemy deeper, Lu Li stood up, his right hand still hidden behind him, and slowly approached the door.
The ghost by the door seemed to realize something and gradually pulled its head back.
Lu Li couldn’t possibly let it escape.
With a step forward, he burst forth, rushing toward the ghost with the momentum of the wind.
The ghost by the door sensed the danger and turned to flee.
No longer concealing it, Lu Li tightly gripped the kitchen knife and swung it forward.
A flash of cold light passed, and almost without resistance, a blackened, withered arm fell to the ground with a clang.
Lu Li chased to the corridor but found the ghost moved extremely fast, defying gravity as it climbed up to the ceiling, using all four limbs to scurry into a corner, completely unlike its slow approach earlier.
Lu Li momentarily stopped chasing and bent down to pick up the ghost’s arm that had fallen on the ground.
This arm actually had a physical form, cold to the touch.
A faint ghostly aura emanated from the neat and smooth cut.
Holding the severed arm, Lu Li looked back at the other end of the corridor, then pursued the ghost into the corner where it had vanished.
A stairway unfurling upward appeared before him.
At the top of the stairs, where the light reached its furthest point, the dismembered ghost clung to the ceiling, pausing in motion.
The scorched, almost smiling face quietly watched Lu Li from above, then turned around, climbed like a spider, and vanished into the darkness in an instant.
Was it leading him on, or was it something else…?
Thump thump deng—
Lu Li stepped onto the staircase, walking all the way up to the second floor.
At the farthest point the light could reach, the ghastly face with the almost smiling expression appeared again at the edge.
It intentionally waited for Lu Li to catch up once more.
It coldly watched Lu Li for a moment, then turned and crawled away.
Rustle rustle—
This time, Lu Li did not choose to immediately follow.
He stood in front of the staircase, pondering for a moment.
“Woof!”
A dog’s bark drew Lu Li’s attention.
Lu Li turned his head, looking toward the other side of the dimly lit corridor where the sound originated.
A gray, semi-transparent golden retriever stood at the edge of the light.
“Woof!”
It barked at Lu Li once, turned towards the darkness, then looked back at Lu Li.
“Want to lead me somewhere?
Lead the way.”
Though both were leading Lu Li, the results were completely different.
There was absolutely no comparison between the ghost of a dog and the humanoid spider ghost.
Rustle, rustle—
Having just taken a few steps behind the golden retriever ghost, a crawling noise sounded from behind them.
Lu Li turned his head, the flashlight illuminating behind him, and the ghost with the severed arm appeared again at the edge of the light.
“Whoo—”
The golden retriever bared its fangs and crouched low, growling in bursts like a wolf.
The ghost with the severed arm fixed its staring eyes on the man and the dog for several seconds, then slowly retreated into the darkness.
The golden retriever returned to normal and led Lu Li through the corridor, directly into a door that was half open.
At the door, Lu Li paused slightly.
The flashlight shone into the room, revealing only half of the study.
The study likely contained its owners—owners who had already died.
Lu Li pushed the door and walked into the study; two sections of legs appeared within the flashlight’s range, and as Lu Li approached, the pairs of legs turned into three pairs.
A family of three’s corpses were propped sitting against the wall, the little girl in the middle; they leaned against each other, their skin showing a decaying paleness under the white light.
“There’s no saving them.”
Lu Li looked at the golden retriever ghost lying at their feet and, after a brief silence, gently shook his head.
For the average person, the ghost with the severed arm indeed represented an unsolvable existence.
There were no weapons to fight against it, and even defense was impossible.
Only after enduring enough fright or attacks could one be prepared, and attempt to escape.
Even a rebel like Yang Chunxue was killed by the Pen Immortal and became a ghost before she could kill the Pen Immortal.
Maybe in the future, one could consider writing a ghost survival handbook, teaching people how to escape and fight back, or even counter-kill when they encounter ghosts.
Lu Li thought of something and tossed the severed arm next to the golden retriever.
“Sniff the scent and lead me to it,” he said.
The golden retriever was smart enough to understand Lu Li’s intention; it got up, sniffed the severed arm, and then ran toward the door.
Lu Li followed it along the corridor for about ten meters when suddenly, three shadows appeared ahead.
Like the ghost with the severed arm, they were pitch-black and emaciated, only their outlines discernible as that of the family of three.
The golden retriever ghost also saw them, whimpered, and ran over, wagging its tail furiously around the three ghosts.
Rustle, rustle—
Crawling noises suddenly sounded from behind; the ghost with the severed arm was lying on the steps leading to the first floor, silently staring at Lu Li.
Having found his target, Lu Li charged forward, and the ghost with the severed arm turned and ran.
Lu Li rushed down the stairs, running back through the corridor he had previously traversed.
When passing the piano room, Lu Li stopped.
No trace of the ghost with the severed arm could be seen in his field of vision.
Had he lost it?
Lu Li frowned, and suddenly, crawling noises appeared behind him.
Before he could turn around, a force shoved him, pushing him toward the wall—
The expected impact did not occur; instead, his vision blurred, and he staggered into standing position.
Lu Li was now in the corridor, while chanting sounds emanated from the room.
He had returned to the real world.
Lu Li turned around, a black silhouette on the wall was rapidly moving away, its missing left arm starkly visible.
Was this ghost trying to lead him out of the Soul Attracting Formation?
Was it because it was too wary to provoke him, so it sent him out, or was it innocent and someone else had killed the family of three?
Lu Li did not know.
