Chapter 103: End of Nightmare
Astrid returned to the palace at creak of dawn, in confusion, shaken, and broken. Everything was over. It was either she kill Alaric or her brothers together with Liam would be killed instead. And the worst of all, the Lycan King said she only had one day to do it. He also too the book she had gone back retrieve from her hometown, reducing her efforts t9 nothing.
Astrid was not watching where she was going and ended up bumping into someone.
"I’m sorry. I—" She went silent when her eyes met with the person’s.
"Why did you wake up so early?" Alaric questioned, gently holding Astra’s cold palms. "You’re so cold. Did you go outside?"
Astrid’s heart skipped a beat knowing not only had she gone outside, but also outside the confines of the palace. If only she could turn back time, she wouldn’t have dared to to do so. Now everything was messed up than earlier.
"Are you fine, my love?" It was Alaric who pulled her back from the trance. With his sharp gaze, he could clearly something was bothering her. Even her heartbeat was faster than usual. "You know you can talk to me about anything?"
Astrid froze and was tempted to do so. But for the fear of his safety, that he might fall into the Lycan King’s trap, she decided and dared not tell him. She would not let anyone else suffer because of her. If someone was to die, then she was ready to give her self to end it all.
"I’m alright. Just a little cold," her pale lips curved into a smile, but that could not hide the fact thay she was not okay to Alaric. But he didn’t want to force her to say anything.
He sighed and slowly pulled her I to his embrace, and tenderly rubbed her back. "Once you’re ready to talk, I’m here, okay?"
Astrid could not hold back her tears. She clutched his garments tightly and sobbed silently for a long time. Due to all the exhaustion, stress and everything, she fell asleep standing, in Alaric’s arms.
Alaric felt her even breathing and her weight fully pressed on him, and he smiled. Swiftly, he carried her up carefully, and took her to her bed. He talked her on bed and placed a lingering forehead kiss. He preparing to leave the sleeping figure held two of his fingers, the ring and the small fingers. He thought she had woken but she was deep asleep, and seemed to be having a bad dream.
Alaric sat down beside her, and started caressing her hair softly, until she wasn’t frowning anymore. Her hand still held his fingers unwilling to let, and Alaric neither wanted to go. Although he a lot of work awaiting him, he wouldn’t waste this chance now that she was clinging to him. For some few days now, he had noticed she was keeping away from him. He didn’t know why and had meant to wait until she told him, but now, he couldn’t anymore. Seeing her sobbing earlier was like a thousands arrows piercing his heart. It pained him and thus, he would have a talk with her once she woke up.

A continuous knock woke Alaric from his light slumber. After a long glance on Astrid who was still sleeping, he stood up and headed to the door. As he had guessed, he was needed for something outside the palace, and would be back maybe the following day. But he couldn’t stay away for that long, so he decided to haste whatever business he had and come back to her.
Immediately after Alaric was far away, Astrid’s eyes went open. She glanced at the roof, thoughts drowning her. But now, she had already made a decision on what to do. She slowly sat up and grabbed the book she was left with under the pillow. Flipping a few pages, she stopped where there was information on core extraction. Astrid tore it carefully and placed it on the bed beside her. Then, she flipped further and stopped at another page, detailed on how to kill a Primal Alpha. Astrid gazed at it a few times. She had already read it, and knew the only person who could kill her, was her mate. Alaric. She didn’t want anyone else to know this thus, she tore the page too and walked near a fire torch. She burned until it was reduced to ashes, her eyes completely blank. No fear, no regret or any resentment.
Then, she walked back to the bed, took the other page and left the room with it. It didn’t take her to find Finn and Zander in the the Art room.
"I need your help," she started, and gave them the page she had with her.
They duo read the writings and looked at her confusedly.
"What’s this supposed to mean?" Finn asked, a little shaken.
Astrid, with no emotions, explained what had transpired and how she was ambushed, but didn’t dare to mention her friend Liam. Even though she knew Finn and Zander were willing to help, anyone who proved to be Alaric’s nemesis, they would not spare him, and Liam was now one, as he was under the influence of a vampire.
"Those people have their eyes everywhere, even around the palace." Astrid stated, alternatively gazing at them.
"So, you mean you have only one day to kill Alaric or else—"
"Yes," she replied to Finn instantly. "That’s why we need to act fast and I’ve already thought of what to do."
Finn and Zander knew what she had in mind was not good bit nevertheless, they decided to listen.
"I told them I’d kill Alaric tonight and meet up with them once I’m done. I’ll have to pretend to do it, but that’s where the problem is."
"What problem?" Zander asked.
"I don’t want to accidentally hurt him so, that’s why I thought of extracting half of my core. This will guarantee even if I hurt Alaric, it won’t be fatal."
"But what about you?" Finn narrowed his eyes at her.
Astrid smiled with no hint of fear. "Don’t worry. No one the secret of how to kill me." She dared not tell them only Alaric could do it because if she did, they would not proceed with the plan.
Zander and Finn thought about it and agreed. "So, both of us will head to where you’re supposed to meet up with them."
"Yes."
"Fine."
The trio made all the plans and Zander t9gether with Finn took Astrid to a witch who could extract her core.
The process was excruciatingly painful but Astrid never made a sound. Only endless tears flowed from her eyes.
By the time the process was done, it was already dark. Zander and Finn took Astrid back to the palace, then they left to where Astrid had instructed them. fr.eew eb novel..com
