Chapter 719: Chapter 573 Overwhelmed (First Update)
On the other side, Green Gore·ICSW (Life Gene Laboratory)
In the spacious, giant circular laboratory, ultra-precise experimental instruments were arranged one after another. At the innermost area, a huge transparent isolation biozone was constructed.
Within the isolation zone, there were biochemical tanks each imprisoning different species of the Insect Race.
The bodies of these Insect Race creatures occasionally writhed, clearly all alive, yet their eyes were tightly closed, likely due to the heavy amount of anesthetics added to the Life Sustaining Liquid they were soaked in.
Additionally, in the central area, there was a square-shaped special biochemical incubation pool containing various species of insect eggs, among them a very large red egg speckled with dark red spots.
On the observation platform, several researchers wearing white lab coats and with pointed ears were watching the condition of the experimental subjects.
A researcher, somewhat worried, asked the leading white-haired elder, “Lord Gesa, is what we’re doing really okay? Could it get out of control?”
“Out of control? Are we afraid of losing control? Hundreds of years ago, our ancestors conducted forbidden genetic experiments for survival. Back then, resources were limited, and the mortality rate was so high, yet we survived. Now, as we enter a new era, this great gift left by our ancestors — if not now, then when?”
A flicker of zeal flashed through Gesa’s eyes as he spoke.
Indeed, their Yanas clan initially — who had such an array of chaotic beings? Some had lion heads, leopard heads, cat heads, or were other types of mutants. All were the products of genetic experiments they conducted initially to adapt to harsh environments.
For this, they paid a heavy blood price. It must be understood that many of the initial experimental subjects failed, with nearly half lacking sanity and possessing only beast-like instincts.
And when the experiment eventually went out of control, although they managed to suppress it in the end, they still had to face the remaining by-products, those sane mutants.
Initially, they too couldn’t accept such individuals with stark appearance differences, which even sparked a conflicting war.
Only then did they finally unite.
After hearing this, the researchers at the scene commented nervously,
“It’s because we have precedents that we’re afraid.”
“Don’t worry. This time is different. Our Yanas clan, being high-level purebreds, naturally possesses a gene that suppresses the Insect Race. We can completely extract new powers from the Insect Race for our use, extremely safely! This will also be our Yanas clan’s trump card in the future. Nothing in this world is reliable, especially in the Star Sea Era, where all promises are false. Today’s friends might become tomorrow’s enemies. The only thing we can trust is our own strength.”
Gesa passionately replied.
“Understood.”
…..
Meanwhile, on another street, Su Mo and Rose both quickened their pace, not in the mood to shop at all, only thinking about quickly getting away from the crowd of onlookers, somewhat feeling like they were fleeing a calamity.
Surrounded by onlookers, more and more self-assured young men and women kept popping up, enthusiastically making passes.
“Hello, could we get to know each other?”
“Esteemed Miss, may I invite you to join me for some fun?”
“Sir, can we be friends?”
“Don’t go.”
…..
Initially, Su Mo and Rose politely declined, but as more people popped up, and the invitations became more and more overt,
both Su Mo and Rose couldn’t handle it and had to quickly slip away.
But things turned even worse. The faster they tried to get away, the more determined the surrounding residents seemed not to give up.
Instead, they kept chasing up, and for a moment, Su Mo and Rose were chased into disarray.
Just as Su Mo and Rose were at a loss, being chased, they collided head-on with Mina, who was carrying a basket.
“What a coincidence, Lady Rose.”
Mina called out, thrilled.
“Mina.”
Rose looked at Mina in front of her, utterly surprised.
“Now is not the time to catch up, sorry, we need to go, there are so many people hitting on us behind.”
Su Mo said with immense frustration.
Mina glanced back and immediately smiled, saying, “I see, come with me.”
Su Mo and Rose were slightly startled but, seeing the residents catching up from behind, they agreed without a second thought.
“Okay!”
“This way!”
Mina immediately led Su Mo and Rose towards a side alley.
After a moment, Su Mo and Rose finally escaped the overly enthusiastic crowd.
Su Mo breathed a sigh of relief and, very grateful, said to Mina, “Thank you so much. The people here are really enthusiastic.”
“No need to thank me. We are always very hospitable here, especially since Sister Rose is so beautiful, and you… What’s your name, by the way?”
Mina was halfway through her sentence when she suddenly stumbled.
“I’m Su Mo,”
Su Mo introduced himself.
“Right, Brother Su Mo, Sister Rose, where are the two of you heading?”
Mina asked curiously.
“We were just out for a walk, not really heading anywhere. But we couldn’t even enjoy the streets and almost got stuck. With the way things are, it looks like we won’t be able to return any time soon. We’ll have to wait until there are fewer people on the streets later.”
Su Mo said with a headache.
“How about this, if you don’t mind, why don’t you come over to my place for a visit?”
Mina invited them, lively and cheerful.
“Would that be appropriate? Wouldn’t we be imposing?”
Su Mo asked, slightly unsure.
“Mr. Su Mo, please don’t be so formal. You saved me, and I haven’t even thanked you yet. It wouldn’t be bothering at all,”
Mina nodded very surely.
Su Mo and Mina exchanged glances, then, recalling Lord Spade’s words, replied.
“Alright, then we’ll impose.”
“That’s great, please follow me.”
Mina led the two toward the front.
After a long while, the three of them arrived at a courtyard enclosed by wooden fences.
The courtyard was in a relatively remote location but covered a large area.
Mina pushed open the door; a large courtyard spread before them. However, there weren’t many plants on either side. Instead, there were piles of garbage.
Seeing this, Su Mo finally understood why Mina’s house was so big; it turned out this place was a garbage recycling station.
“I’m back,”
Mina shouted happily.
The next second, about a dozen children of various ages rushed out.
“Sister!”
Su Mo and Rose were stunned!
The children swarmed around Mina for hugs.
Su Mo carefully observed and estimated that the youngest was probably less than two years old, still in diapers.
“Sister, did you bring me something to eat?”
