Chapter 637: Chapter 515: Rest and Recovery (Part One)

In the vastness of space, the steel structure of the Imprisoned Planet Fortress began to disintegrate, followed by complete collapse, with the collapsing parts exploding continuously. As the outer layers fell apart, the Main Star of the Hongji Empire gradually became exposed. Upon closer inspection, one could see that the soil was severely contaminated, and the entire planet was in a state of disrepair.

Though technically a standard habitable planet, its ecological balance had long since crumbled, and the environment was extremely harsh, making it utterly unsuitable for life.

This was probably a significant reason why the Hongji Empire had resolved to transform their Main Star in the first place.

In the Black Brilliance Command Room’s observation deck, Li Ruiqi, Spade, and Augustus stood quietly, watching the Fortress continue to fall apart. They saw fleets of rescue ships and Mechas flying out, rapidly returning home.

Their expressions were very calm, showing no signs of joy. Not long ago, they had received a brief update from Karina, which gave them a rough idea of what had happened.

Of course, they would need to ask for specifics later and wait for the personnel involved to upload their mission logs to understand fully.

Augustus spoke with a sense of regret, “It’s such a pity that the Fortress has come apart, leaving nothing but the planet itself. Its value has plummeted. We need these cutting-edge weapons the most, after all; aren’t these behemoths the key factors that can dictate victory on the battlefields of the future?”

“There’s no such thing as a perfect situation. However, even if its outer layers have disintegrated, we should still be able to salvage some materials and equipment.”

Li Ruiqi offered his thoughts after some contemplation.

Spade spoke faintly, “Don’t get your hopes too high. Based on the brief update from Karina, we can basically confirm that the Hongji Empire has fought to exhaustion. Their own resources are almost depleted, and continuous battles, coupled with the collapse of the Fortress’s surface, mean that while the proceeds will be decent, they won’t be great. After all, what we need most are top-tier weapons, rare materials, and corresponding technologies. As for lower-grade materials, they don’t mean much to us; they can only serve as a foundation, and we can’t take them with us.”

“That’s true. But as I understand it, quite a few survivors from the Hongji Empire are immigrating here, and they’ve recovered their own artificial intelligence. Wouldn’t that mean the technology won’t be too disappointing for us?”

Augustus hit the nail on the head.

After pondering for a second, Spade said, “Let’s wait until things stabilize, and we’ll reach out to them to discuss the terms of their accommodation.”

At that moment, Li Ruiqi coughed and interjected, “Vice Speakers, there’s something I need to remind you of. Council President Long Ming has instructed that if we encounter people from a fallen civilization who appear to pose little threat and tend to maintain order, he advises that we treat them kindly. This will help us build a good reputation and make it easier in the future to continuously absorb orphans from other civilizations, thereby making us stronger.”

Augustus and Spade looked at each other and nodded slightly.

“We understand.”

Being smart, they naturally grasped Long Ming’s intent. There was a difference between a single full meal and being full at every meal. Besides, once the people were under their care, were they afraid they couldn’t get what they wanted?

Li Ruiqi replied respectfully, “Thank you for your understanding, Vice Speakers. You have both worked hard lately, so I suggest you go back to rest early. I’ll handle the rest. Once the Fortress’s surface has completely disintegrated, I will arrange the necessary work tasks.”

“Alright then, we’ll leave it in your capable hands.”

Black Brilliance G District Isolation Zone.

After returning, Su Mo was immediately taken by the Doctor to the isolation area.

He lay on a hospital bed.

A group of doctors from the GT department surrounded him, starting to examine his entire body.

The leading elder Doctor apologized to Su Mo as he said, “Commander Su Mo, since you have just returned from an external region, for safety reasons, we need to conduct a full body examination to confirm that you haven’t been infected with the Negative Energy Virus. Only then can we proceed with systematic treatment. Rest assured, we’ve had a brief look, and while your injuries are quite serious, they are not life-threatening. Please understand.”

“Understood.”

Su Mo was very cooperative in his response, knowing that opposition was futile as this was a fundamental principle that everyone had to follow.

Soon after, Su Mo was pushed into a huge scanning device for a comprehensive, no-blind-spot scan.

Although he had confidence in the faux creator “Swallower,” Su Mo was still somewhat nervous.

Fortunately, everything went smoothly in the end, and he successfully completed the full-body scan with all data showing normal.

The leading doctor said to Su Mo, “Thank you very much for your cooperation. Next, we will take you to a special ward, where you will undergo treatment and quarantine.”

“Thank you.”

Su Mo nodded in reply.

…..

Shortly after, Su Mo was wheeled into a very clean and spacious ward, which did not seem to be for single occupancy.

Before long, Victor was also wheeled in with a bandaged head, and upon seeing Su Mo, he greeted him enthusiastically.

“Brother Su Mo!”

“Chief Victor?”

Su Mo was also a bit surprised; he hadn’t expected to be assigned to the same ward as him.

“What do you mean ‘chief?’ That’s too formal. After the assessment period is over, and you’re also promoted to the reserve squad, we’ll be comrades. Just call me Old Victor,” Victor replied with great enthusiasm. After this mission, he was completely won over by Su Mo’s combat abilities. Even to the point of admiration, so he was very eager to get close to Su Mo.

“Eh, okay then. So, Victor, where are you from?”

Su Mo chatted awkwardly with Victor, trying to find some topic. Since Victor was so friendly, he couldn’t be too cold, could he?

“I’m from Country M!”

“Oh, I never saw you when I was in the Star Ring World.”

“Of course you didn’t. I wasn’t in charge of the strategic operations in Praying Dragon City; my main responsibility was the mining of gold points. But I’ve heard of you. You had some fame in our area, especially when you stole Emaya’s third-generation Mecha, ‘Slaughter Blade,’ and beat up her fiancé, Gegil. Your actions made quite the stir among us.”

“You know them?”

Su Mo asked with curiosity.

“How could I not know them? We are from the same country,” Victor replied with a wry smile.

“Makes sense, but I haven’t heard about them recently.”

Su Mo pondered briefly before speaking.

“It’s normal not to hear about them. Although Emaya and Gegil are generals, they have a different status than mine. They come from oligarch families and ultimately have to serve their own clans. So, they serve their families more than anything and haven’t joined the GT department. You wouldn’t see them in regular operations, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t active,” Victor explained after some thought.
