Destiny Mission of game ‘Star Ring’ -
Chapter 429 - 429 407 Mutation
429: Chapter 407: Mutation 429: Chapter 407: Mutation Su Mo pondered briefly, then hurriedly left to return to the ship.
The money was all spent, and the business was settled.
Heading back to rendezvous and sailing home early meant less chance of drawing attention and unexpected complications.
Although Star Ring City might seem huge, the area where Su Mo was currently active was merely the surface-level trading market.
Moreover, this trading market was frequented mainly by Federation members; other civilizations’ personnel were more active in the adjacent trading areas, avoiding each other as an unspoken understanding.
After all, nobody could be sure about the others, so it was best to avoid interaction as much as possible.
As Su Mo walked towards the spaceport, he ran into Xiao Wen and Chen Shan head-on.
“Su Mo!”
Chen Shan greeted with a laugh.
“Chen Shan, Xiao Wen, what are you guys doing here?
I was just about to head back to the ship.”
“We just finished up our business and bought some stuff.
Want to join us?”
Xiao Wen asked with a smile.
“Sure!”
Su Mo didn’t refuse, although he had no money left.
Even just browsing around and getting to know more things was good.
“Then let’s go together.
How did your business go?”
Chen Shan cheerfully slung an arm around Su Mo’s shoulder and asked eagerly.
After thinking for a moment, not quite sure how to describe it, Su Mo replied, “Not bad, I guess.”
“That’s good, by the way, aren’t you going to buy something, Su Mo?”
Xiao Wen asked Su Mo, who had nothing in his hands.
Su Mo replied frankly, “No, I’ve spent all my money.”
Chen Shan said with a chuckle, “Did you lose control for a moment and spend everything you had?”
“Sort of.”
“Don’t feel embarrassed, it’s pretty normal.
To tell you the truth, if Xiao Wen hadn’t been stopping me along the way, I would’ve spent all my money too.
Just let me know if there’s something you like while we’re browsing and I’ll cover for you, brother.”
Chen Shan offered generously, patting his chest.
“Thanks.”
Su Mo didn’t refuse.
So the three of them continued browsing the street shops, first stopping by a street stall.
The vendor was a tall male with very long braids and slightly grey-blue skin, standing at least over two meters tall, but quite thin.
His stall was cluttered with all sorts of items.
In the trading area of Star Ring City, aside from the more powerful shops that have storage, the regular shops and stalls display all their possessions.
After all, with housing so expensive, how many people could afford to rent a shop?
Besides the Mechanical Pillar, there are basically no shops selling low-level ships because of the prohibitively expensive port fees.
The cost of mooring for a short period can be higher than the price of the ship itself.
Thus, most of them sell parts and such.
Xiao Wen at that moment squatted down, picked up some metallic circular patches, and asked, “How much are these translation patches?”
“You’ve got a great eye, 1.5 Star Coins each, but I can offer a discount for a bulk purchase.”
The vendor’s eyes lit up at the prospect of a sale.
“Too expensive, 0.5 Star Coin each.”
“Can’t do that, it won’t even cover the cost.”
“Don’t try to fool me; they sell for 1 Star Coin at the Mechanical Pillar, and you dare to ask for 1.5?
It’s 0.5 Star Coin each, not a penny more.”
Xiao Wen was resolute in his stance.
The vendor’s expression changed a few times, and finally, he sighed and asked, “How many do you want?”
“Fifty pieces.”
“Okay.”
The vendor promptly took out a box from behind him and handed it to Xiao Wen.
Xiao Wen swiped his card on the vendor’s machine and paid in Star Coins.
“What are you buying these for?”
Su Mo asked curiously.
“These are language translation patches.
We rely on these for communicating with people from different civilizations.
The reason you can communicate without barriers in Star Ring City is because people here all use these.
If you encounter someone not using a translation patch, you’ll have communication problems.
These metal patches are preloaded with all languages participating in the Star Ring civilization, and they can help translate information and convert the language you speak, otherwise who knows what you’d be saying.
Here, take one.”
After explaining, Xiao Wen took out a piece and handed it to Su Mo.
Su Mo took it, finding it quite fascinating—definitely a piece of high-tech magic.
“How do you use it?”
“Stick it on the side of your neck, as close to the vocal cords as possible for the best effect,”
Chen Shan demonstrated by pointing to a patch on his own neck.
“Okay.”
Su Mo put it away.
“Dear customers, you might want to look at the other items at my stall; they’re all quality goods.
Many of them are from relics of civilizations from outside,”
The vendor continued to eagerly promote his other items.
Xiao Wen glanced over the items on the vendor’s stall, mostly old objects, and most seemed like parts stripped from scrap and various odd-looking ores.
He couldn’t distinguish their functions at all and, considering the limited funds, he soon lost interest.
“No need, let’s go and see what’s up ahead.”
“Don’t go, I also sell classified information.
Let me tell you, when I was young, I was the Black Tower Country’s ace division commander, commanding over a dozen standard warships.
I know about the depots of supplies left after the fall of Black Tower Country, and if you’re interested, I can sell the information to you for cheap.”
The vendor suddenly became anxious, as his business had been deteriorating, and he was struggling to pay the taxes.
Su Mo looked at Xiao Wen, curious to see how he would handle this.
To Su Mo’s surprise, Xiao Wen spoke gravely, “We don’t just buy information, but if you are willing to come with us, our Federation is prepared to pay you a sum of money.”
