Chapter 120: 114 close call!

Anning nodded continuously: "Very good! Your arrival is timely! From today onwards, you are the training department head of my troops! You will be responsible for the reorganization and training of the troops!"

Lazar Kano was a bit taken aback: "Uh, don’t you need to give me a squad first to see how well I train?"

"No need, I trust the people recommended by Robespierre," Anning waved his hand, "But this responsibility is very significant. Our small troop is in dire need of officers. Do you think you can find some officers for me?"

Lazar Kano smiled: "Officers can be recruited. With your current reputation, the moment you raise the flag of recruiting officers, many will come."

Anning: "Indeed, but many officers should already have military positions, right? Can they switch jobs easily?"

"I rejected my original appointment to join you," Lazar Kano said, "There must be many others like me who will come. If you think that’s not enough, add a clause announcing that your army pays salaries without requiring vouchers."

Anning frowned: "Is that really okay? Supporting vouchers is a patriotic act; in Paris, those who do not support vouchers are deemed traitors."

"Who would dare call you a traitor?" Lazar Kano retorted.

Anning scratched his head.

Cano continued: "Moreover, the Parliament is recklessly issuing more vouchers now as if they think they can print it endlessly, but this will lead to problems. It’s like printing paper and robbing people cleverly."

Anning: "Is the situation already this critical?"

Cano: "Yes, now in the black market of Paris, vouchers are completely unsupported, and everyone uses old coins for transactions. Many shops in Paris support vouchers publicly, but when you go to sell things with vouchers, they always find excuses saying there’s no stock.

"Thankfully, this year’s harvest was plentiful, so people can still buy bread at reasonable prices on the black market. If there’s another poor harvest, the situation will become very dangerous.

"Mr. Frost, you should advise the Parliament to stop issuing vouchers recklessly and figure out how to stabilize the value of the vouchers. Since the Parliament has confiscated so much property from the Church, it can completely use the Church’s assets to support the value of the vouchers."

Anning: "Well...you might not know, but I seldom propose bills in the Parliament...and most importantly, I don’t understand these financial matters."

Indeed, Anning was telling the truth. As a programmer in his past life, he only bought some funds, but ended up trapped and suffered heavy losses.

Lazar Kano sighed: "I don’t understand these matters much either, forget it, anyway, I will be leaving Paris with you soon. When do you plan to depart for the Conte Region?"

Anning: "At the end of this month, about two weeks from now. I need to wait for the first batch of cannons I bought in Paris to be ready, then I’ll take the cannons and other military supplies back."

Cano: "I see."

Anning: "Do you have classmates from the military engineering academy in Paris? Could you write to them and ask them to join me?"

"I suppose I could try," Cano answered.

Anning nodded, then said: "It’s getting late today, time to rest."

He shook the bell on the table, and Vanni pushed the door open: "You called for me?"

Anning: "Show Mr. Cano to the guest room for rest."

"Mr. Cano, this way, please," Vanni said respectfully.

Cano was somewhat surprised: "Don’t you have a butler?"

"Not currently, but my Chief Maid is very capable, so there’s hardly a need for a butler," Anning said.

Cano: "Well then, I’ll take my leave, you have a good rest too."

"Alright, I’ll be relying on you tomorrow," Anning nodded and watched as Vanni led Cano out of the room.

After Anning was left alone in the study, he sat down and leaned back in the chair, a smile involuntarily spreading across his face.

Lazar Kano! The organizer of victory! With him, the expansion of his troops will surely go smoothly.

With his troops strong and well-equipped, he could rest easy in the upcoming chaotic situations.

At that moment, a voice suddenly rose from the depths of Anning’s mind, telling him that he was now the highest military commander of Conte, and he had single-handedly supported the establishment of the local National Assembly. In Conte, his word was law.

Could he not then initiate some reforms in Conte?

With the National Assembly being such a mess, causing problems everywhere, couldn’t he make some improvements in Conte?

Anning stroked his chin, pondering this matter.

Although he himself knew nothing about social reforms, he could appoint some capable people. Lazar Kano had already arrived; this man was a core figure in the Revolutionary Army’s reforms. With his series of reforms, the Revolutionary Army had ample soldiers, battling across all of Europe.

He could appoint Cano as the Minister of Military Organization for the Conte Region, and let him start the reforms there.

Then bring over some capable people in the economic field to stir up economic reforms in Conte.

Then Anning began to wonder, during the era of the Revolution, were there any prominent economists?

Suddenly, he realized that, from the entire Revolution to the Napoleonic Wars, he could not recall any such economic figures.

At least Anning didn’t remember any.

Anning, supporting his forehead, said, "So the financial mess during the Revolution era did have its reasons!"

Anning began contemplating whether or not to transplant some successful methods from other eras to the present.

While he was thinking, someone suddenly knocked on the door.

"Come in," Anning said.

Vanni opened the door and came in: "I have already arranged accommodations for Mr. Lazar Kano."

"Oh, good, you can go rest as well."

As his words faded, Vanni remained standing, unmoving.

Anning curiously asked, "What’s the matter?"

"If you do not rest, I cannot rest. I am a maid," Vanni replied.

Anning stood up: "Alright, alright, I’ll go wash up and sleep now."

Vanni: "If you’d like to bathe, the hot water has just been heated up."

"Oh, there’s hot water, okay, I’ll take a bath before sleeping," Anning said as he stretched lazily, followed by a long yawn.

Vanni opened the door and waited by the side.

Moments later, Anning reached the bathroom, from where warm vapors continually rose, mixed with the scent of perfume.

Under Vanni’s assistance, Anning took off his clothes and then stepped into the bathtub.

The water temperature was adjusted just right, comfortably immersing his entire body, relaxing his muscles.

Vanni by his side continuously scooped water with a small ladle onto Anning’s exposed shoulders, while asking, "You seem to be in a very good mood today."

"Yes, I met two exceptionally talented people today," Anning almost said "two celebrities," but corrected himself at the last moment.

Beethoven and Lazar Kano were not particularly famous now.

Vanni: "So, both of them can be of use to you?"

"Yes, both can be of use to me."

"That truly calls for a celebration, our strength has grown stronger," Vanni said.
