Chapter 90: Chapter 90 Hall of Wisdom
Rare and above lottery draws ten times, a blessing for Africans.
Not only that, completing the task would also bestow the title "Maze Rule Breaker", increasing team damage by 10%, speeding up the strategy in conquering the maze, and increasing Experience by 10% to speed up leveling—that was something all players had always dreamed of.
However, the task required unconventional methods to conquer the underground city, which was a rather ambiguous demand.
"I wonder if we can just talk the underground city boss into reforming himself, starting anew, or maybe, just blow up the entire underground city... Watching the boss spiral into the sky wouldn’t be too bad."
Imagining various stylish strategies in his mind, Yang Yu led the team through a narrow tunnel into the first level of the Underground Maze.
In the underground city, darkness was not always the main theme. It was as if it had been waiting for someone to conquer it, the walls and ceiling of the underground city emitted a faint light, illuminating its passages.
Every passage in the underground city was wide enough to allow five horse carriages to move side by side, and these passages intersected each other forming a true maze, where one careless step could lead to getting lost.
Stepping onto the floor paved with ancient stone slabs, a new task popped up on Yang Yu’s system interface.
[Underground City Conquest Task: [Hall of Wisdom]
Task Requirements: Conquer the underground city, defeat the guardian of the last floor.
Task Rewards: Experience 15000, Gold Coin 20000, [Enlightenment Orb], +10 free attribute points, +5 Skill Points]
Setting aside those rewards, clearly, conquering the underground city was a way to earn free attribute points and Skill Points.
It’s just a shame that Yang Yu’s current panel was too barren to even consider defeating an Elite Monster, let alone clearing the entire Underground Maze.
The path of grinding attributes through the Underground Maze would have to wait for the Late Stage.
[Hall of Wisdom]The first layer had three passages in total: one to the left, one to the right, and another directly in front of Yang Yu and his team.
Regardless of which one, it was impossible to see the end through the dim light of the underground city.
Bai Jin looked up at Yang Yu, "Which way should we go?"
Standing before the three passages and surveying for a while, Yang Yu extended his hand and pointed to the passage on the right, "It seems like we can hear the sounds of combat from this direction, let’s go this way."
Ada and Aluo mentioned that they had explored the first layer and obtained quite a few spoils of war.
The monsters in this world could not regenerate in a short time, so the first layer’s monsters might have been cleared out by adventurers already.
If that assumption held true, the sounds of combat were either due to monsters from the second layer wandering to the first to battle adventurers or coming directly from the second layer itself.
Since there were no monsters on the first layer, naturally they needed to head to the second layer.
Once they had decided on the direction, Bai Jin and Yang Yu stepped forward, while Iyas alone stopped at the entrance, trembling and wrapping her arms around herself.
"I’ve got this creepy, terrifying feeling here... I’m saying, maybe we shouldn’t go in."
Iyas shivered, her body instinctively screaming at her not to enter the underground city.
"At this point, let’s not back out. Don’t be less brave than a Slime."
Gently pulling on the hood of the White Jin Robe, a small blob of light blue gelatinous creature appeared, He Meng leisurely lying inside, fast asleep.
Since other adventurers had already rushed into the dungeon, the threat wasn’t just the monsters inside, but also the greedy adventurers.
He Meng, if left alone, might mistakenly be killed off by an adventurer thinking she was just another dungeon monster, which is why Yang Yu had to hide her.
Initially, Yang Yu planned to forcefully stuff He Meng between his shield and elbow. This way, he could hide He Meng while also providing some cushioning for his hand.
However, He Meng managed to break free from Yang Yu’s grasp and attempted to slap him across the face. Fortunately, Yang Yu reacted quickly and dodged, or else his face would have been bruised.
The attack failed, and He Meng, huffing with anger, jumped into Bai Jin’s hood and continued to slack off.
Yang Yu didn’t know when He Meng would truly become a combatant; for now, he could only keep her as a pet.
Yang Yu’s urging didn’t make Iyas move forward; she bit her lip, unsure how to explain her feelings. She had never been to an underground city and didn’t know if what she felt was normal.
Yang Yu saw Iyas’s concern and smiled, saying, "I have my own judgment. If we encounter an enemy we cannot defeat, we won’t stubbornly fight to the death but will retreat in time."
"Promise me then! If it gets dangerous, we’ll retreat immediately. We absolutely can’t die before my brother is rescued."
"Alright, alright."
Yang Yu casually responded and continued leading the team deeper into the right-hand side of the maze.
They hadn’t walked far when they came across another fork; Yang Yu chose the path where sounds of crackling bam emanated.
As they delved deeper, the bam sounds from the passage grew clearer, and suddenly, a team of five adventurers appeared before them.
They were fighting an ogre that was three meters tall.
The massive ogre swung a large wooden club across the ground aiming at a magician, causing two warriors to rush in front of the magician, their weapons colliding with the ogre’s wooden club, forcing it to deviate and strike the sturdy wall instead.
With a loud bang, a large hole appeared in the wall. Taking advantage of the ogre retrieving its club, the team’s three magicians grabbed the chance to chant the Fireball Technique, directly aiming at the ogre’s face.
The ogre, ignoring the pain, swung its giant club again, and the battle continued vigorously.
As time passed, the ogre’s blood volume steadily approached the danger zone, turning red, and a few more magical attacks would bring it down. Yang Yu naturally wouldn’t miss this opportunity.
In the Goblin Forest, countless NPCs had snatched kills from Yang Yu. Afterward, he’d often thought about how to prevent NPCs from snatching kills and consequently developed a strategy with key points to prevent it.
He also imagined many scenarios where NPCs could snatch his kills, and one scenario matched today’s scene perfectly.
However, this time the roles were reversed.
It used to be NPCs snatching my kills; today, I finally get to snatch an NPC’s kill!
"Iyas, listen to my command and prepare to use ’Gale Point Break’ at the ogre’s throat. Bai Jin, get ready with ’Frost Ice Arrow.’"
Despite resenting Yang Yu for taking it for granted to issue commands, Iyas still drawn her bow and aimed at the ogre, while Bai Jin picked up her staff, chanting magic and forming a sharp Frost Ice Arrow in front of her palm.
Yang Yu crouched down, hand on the hilt of his sword, watching the ogre’s blood volume. Once it dropped low, he cleared his throat and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Hey! Don’t be afraid! I’m here! I won’t let it harm you at all!"
Then, he surged forward with astonishing speed from his calves.
