Chapter 415: Chapter 415: Look, I’m Hurt, Such a Heavy Injury
An eerie laugh emanated from beneath the bird beak mask, and Yang Yu didn’t immediately state his demands, instead he asked,
"Do you know why I suggested from the start that Red Blood Rose come here and collaborate with you?"
The sinister laughter, paired with Yang Yu’s slowly articulated question, struck like a sharp dagger, piercing through Qing Cong’s chest and leaving him momentarily at a loss for words, sinking into deep thought.
Through the mask, Yang Yu watched all this unfold, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly.
The young man’s expression signaled that he was gradually falling into Yang Yu’s rhythm.
To practice this chilling laugh, Yang Yu had put in quite some effort.
He had intended to ask Bai Jin for advice on how to produce a bizarre laugh but found that lately Bai Jin seldom emitted such laughter.
Up till now, Bai Jin had been working hard to overcome her awkward personality; at this point, Yang Yu didn’t want to dismiss her efforts.
Intervening suddenly, wanting to help her overcome that strange trait, would seem too abrupt.
After much deliberation, Yang Yu abandoned the idea of learning the eerie laugh from Bai Jin.
Instead, he sought a different path, constantly altering his laugh and seeking out those mad, sinister chuckles from his memory to meld together, thus creating the current spooky and spine-chilling laugh.
Only after receiving unanimous praise from Red Blood Rose did Yang Yu confidently use this laugh to target the deepest fears of others, breaking down their mental defenses.
The dark and terrifying bird beak mask reflected in the eyes of Qing Cong, who was trying to glean hints from Yang Yu, only to suddenly realize he was completely unable to see through what the man before him was truly thinking.
After a long thought, Qing Cong reached a conclusion, simply shaking his head, indicating his ignorance.
The gloomy laugh sounded again, and Yang Yu continued to ask, "Then do you know, when utterly clueless, how to quickly create a medicine that meets the expected therapeutic effects? What do you think is the most crucial part?"
Qing Cong furrowed his brows, trying to analyze from Yang Yu’s perspective to guess the answer he was seeking. After prolonged contemplation, Qing Cong said with extreme uncertainty,
"I think, the most critical thing is whether there are experimental subjects..."
"Aye hehe!!!"
The sudden explosive laughter from Yang Yu startled Qing Cong, who frowned tightly,
"Am I wrong?"
"It’s more that your answer is exactly what I had in mind. I thought you’d come up with a boring answer like ’team collaboration,’ but surprisingly you are quite discerning."
Stretching out his hand wrapped in white bandages, Yang Yu began to unwind them,
"When completely unaware, the most important aspect of quickly producing an effective medicine isn’t ’team collaboration,’ but depends on how many experimental subjects are available to test the Potions.
As long as there are enough subjects, one can swiftly capture the effects of each trial Potion, quickly filtering out products with minimal side effects, and then find the optimal formulation among those with less adverse reactions."
Having completely unwound the bandages, Yang Yu displayed his hand for Qing Cong to see.
The skin on Yang Yu’s hand peeled and curled like the layering of a cabbage, revealing a back of the hand covered in blood-red blotches. Qing Cong’s skin crawled at the sight, and he unconsciously averted his gaze.
In reality, the large patches of what seemed like severe peeling on Yang Yu’s skin were rolled out from dried glue; the red blotches were fabricated using a makeup kit drawn from the System, creating an illusion that would be hard to detect without close scrutiny.
To prevent exposure of the fabricated wound, Yang Yu calmly rewrapped the bandages around his hand.
"As a wandering Magic Pharmacist, I often had to test potions on myself because there were no people to test them. As a result, my body had become riddled with countless scars due to all sorts of potions.
At the crossroads of whether to continue wandering freely and self-testing new Magic Potions or find a place to settle down and continue developing Magic Potions, I chose the latter."
Tightening the bandage in his hand, Yang Yu spoke casually:
"I’ve heard quite a bit about your guild’s affairs. If you could create those drugs, behind the scenes, there must certainly have been countless trials, including many inhumane human experiments.
Such unscrupulous methods for profit align perfectly with mine, which is why I took interest in your guild.
With your help, I believe I can develop even more Magic Potions..."
In Yang Yu’s hands appeared a small vial of potion, its purple color strikingly similar to the one Gordon presented.
Yang Yu shook the potion bottle in front of Qing Cong,
"In fact, I’ve already produced several prototypes of that potion, I just lack subjects to test it on...
My only request is to provide a Slave for me to see the effects right now.
If you can find me a Slave test subject immediately, I’ll find a way to persuade the ’Red Blood Rose’ gang to partner with you.
Of course, all of my work would be yours."
Qing Cong furrowed his brow, even though Big Pancake Face had ordered him to fulfill the demands of the masked bandaged man in front of him.
However, they had only been at Serti for a few months and did not have the rich heritage like Trell.
Most potions were still in the prototype stage and hadn’t been clinically used, therefore, the acquisition of Slaves had been put on the backburner.
Thinking of this, the image of Asuna flashed through Qing Cong’s mind.
If Asuna were still around, her Charming Technique could have controlled weak adventurers, eliminating extra costs for Slaves and guards.
But Asuna had been killed by that detestable man during the horrifying invasion, and even their family elder, Bu Yao Lianzi, succumbed to his severe injuries three days later during their migration...
Shaking his head to clear his memories, Qing Cong refocused his attention on satisfying Yang Yu’s demands.
For the revival of the guild, Qing Cong could not admit that they were not prepared with Slaves.
He could only offer a slight apologetic smile, Qing Cong said:
"Mr. Plague Company, I am very sorry. Due to a series of reasons, our guild lost many Slaves.
I’ve heard that your potions are quite potent, and they are now in a near-death state. With your meddling, it’s very likely they will meet their demise.
I’m not trying to shirk responsibility, I’m just saying that during this critical period, losing a single Slave is a considerable loss for us."
Yang Yu, standing still, did not speak and just quietly watched Qing Cong perform.
But just by standing there, Yang Yu’s black attire inherently brought tremendous pressure on Qing Cong. Having no choice, Qing Cong had to swiftly get to the point,
"However, we happen to have a new Slave here. While he may be thin, he is an elf."
