Chapter 259: Reputation Suffers
Chapter 259: Chapter 259: Reputation Suffers
After hearing that statement, Lockrose furrowed his brows. He had never anticipated that a newcomer, who had been there less than a month, could wield such significant influence.
Even before Yang Yu had been admitted to the All Things Library, he had already become well-known within it.
Such a prominent figure, if he were to disappear without a trace, would surely ignite a frenzy among the people to pursue the truth and covertly report it.
By then, not to mention the reputation of the Judgement Court, even the honor of the Library would definitely be damaged.
"What a hassle, hey, Artie Roosevelt, it’s all the fault of your editorial department. If you hadn’t spread news about that guy everywhere, he would just be an ordinary member. With a person like that, even if you locked him up in prison on some pretext, no one would really care. Come up with a way to suppress the public opinion!"
A middle-aged man with a goatee and dressed like a cowboy arrogantly propped his feet up on the conference table, appearing both haughty and lazy.
"I don’t think we did anything wrong on our part, and besides, thinking of a way like that to get into the Library, necessitating us to amend the regulations, I don’t think he’s just an ordinary member.
Besides, public opinion is the affair of the public, not something I can manipulate at will.
Library members are exceptionally shrewd about serious matters. At most, I could manipulate the gossip columns, because that’s just for fun, and we go with whatever is amusing."
"You really dare to say that, I’ve suffered quite a bit because of you."
Emily narrowed her eyes, her gaze exceptionally scrutinizing.
She too was a member of the Special Measures Committee, sitting right next to Baronaco.
With a playful smile on her face, Artie Roosevelt lowered his feet from the table, "But, madam, not too long ago, it seemed like you were quite fond of that young man, even boasting everywhere that Lady Tico found herself a fine boyfriend."
"Regarding being fond and boasting, I won’t deny these," Emily giggled with narrowed eyes, "Just sit down and have a proper talk with him, and you’ll find that the youth has a maturity and foresight far beyond his years, possessing a type of reliability that attracts.
The only imperfection might be his lack of interest in my daughter.
I should thank you for getting my hopes up high and making me worry about their matters."
Emily spoke with hidden meanings, but Artie Roosevelt feigned ignorance and chuckled, glancing towards Lockrose.
Who knew that Lockrose, initially intending to further reprimand Artie Roosevelt, instantly turned his criticism towards Emily,
"I’ve figured it out, it’s you! Definitely you! You’re the elder who’s been in contact with him the most these past few days, you must have told him everything about Fairyland, and even instructed him to go there!"
Slightly opening her narrowed eyes, a cold light flashed in Emily’s eyes,
"Where’s the evidence?"
"What more evidence do you need!"
"Lockrose, you really know how to pin labels on others. I admit I stand with the faction that aims to completely eradicate the roots for the fairies, but so far, I’ve always acted according to the Library’s rules and respected the Library’s decisions.
I’m well aware of the consequences of secretly instructing others to interfere with the Library’s decisions. I’d never be so foolish as to achieve my goals in such a manner.
You say I instructed them? Please produce some evidence.
To determine a crime based solely on personal conjecture without any evidence, it’s precisely because of leaders like you that the Law Enforcement Team suffers such a besmirched reputation.
After what happened this morning, it’s no wonder, truly, what kind of leader brings out what kind of people."
"Shut up! That guy is too abnormal! He doesn’t have any reverence for the Law Enforcement Team at all, which is enough to show his danger to us."
"If Jack Roger were here, they would never be so arrogant!"
"In my opinion, even if dealing with them affects the Library’s reputation to some extent, we still need to get rid of them, we absolutely cannot allow them to undermine the very foundation of the Library."
"From where do you judge this danger? Essentially, these are still your subjective speculations, and we currently have no way to define this situation, please calm down a bit more."
Continuing to fiddle with the crystal ball, Baronaco gave a light smile, knowing that Lockrose was just a clown, a pawn used by the Conservatives to test the limits of the Rescue Faction.
The reason Lockrose could say such illogical words was not merely for sensationalism; there likely lay another purpose behind it.
Thus, the angrier we get, the more likely we are to fall into the Conservative’s trap.
"How do you expect me to remain calm? This is a matter of the Library’s survival, no one can keep calm in this situation, okay?"
Suddenly, an ancient wooden magic wand gently tapped on the table generating a crisp sound.
Lockrose immediately shut his mouth, waiting for the elder to speak.
Everyone looked toward an old man with a kind appearance, half his face covered by a mask.
His name was Huiyao, one of the most authoritative figures in the Special Measures Committee.
"As Baronaco said, let’s not engage in pointless debates here, just give me a moment of calm. What we need to discuss now is how to handle this situation, as arguing like this won’t solve anything.
The King of Elves has already made their stance clear, they are tired of continuing to provide services for us, this situation was not brought about by those three men alone, it was merely a catalyst.
We should have been prepared for this when we made that kind of decision before."
Rudely sitting down, Lockrose said impatiently, "So what should we do now? If those three really help the fairies solve the source of the Darkness, without the fairies’ help, how can the Library possibly run smoothly?"
"Undoubtedly, fairies still need our protection. As long as we use that as a condition, we can continue to sit down and have a good talk with them.
Besides, the source of the Darkness is not as easy to deal with as imagined, I don’t think just those three people can entirely resolve the problems of Fairyland.
Perhaps, they might even provoke a backlash from the Darkness, and meet their demise therein. That would be our opportunity."
Just as Huiyao finished speaking, a surge of Magic Power swept across his forehead.
Those who have become part of the Library Special Strategy Committee are all elite among magicians and extremely sensitive to significant increases in Magic Power in their vicinity.
At this moment, almost everyone felt a familiar Magic Power rapidly rising from beneath the ground.
"What in the world is happening?"
"Could it be, as the Huiyao Conference Chair said, that they really don’t understand the method to seal the source, and have carelessly manipulated it, causing the Darkness buried beneath to run wild?"
"Baronaco, quickly connect the Surveillance Magic to check on the situation in Fairyland!" A voice as old yet as resonant as a dragon’s roar sounded, and the disturbance in the room ceased once more, all eyes turned to Baronaco.
Baronaco gestured grandly, and a mirror-like Magic unfolded in the center of the conference room, projecting a mosaic-like image.
Soon, Baronaco locked onto the source where the Magic Power was rapidly intensifying.
It was a continuously expanding shadow of Darkness.
