Chapter 243: Chapter 243: Counterfeit Saves the World
Using his legs to power his movements, Yang Yu attacked the poisonous snake with his sword.
The part of the poisonous snake that contained a core did not turn into black energy; the parts without a core would first turn into gas upon being severed and then, following the snake’s consciousness, whimsically coalesce back into a solid form.
This was key to locating the core.
Yang Yu danced with his sword, the blade flickering with light. He first cut the snake in half, then aimed for the part that did not dissipate into black energy, splitting it in two from the middle, repeated several times until the lengthy serpent was reduced to merely the size of a fist.
It was within this fist-sized piece that the core, corrupted from a fairy, resided.
With an unadorned sword technique, Yang Yu probed the edges of the core, confidently shaving away all the black energy to reveal the dimly glowing core.
Now was the moment. Kaka opened his arms, and a cage made of light appeared once again. With a forward push, the cage imprisoned the snake’s core.
However, as soon as the core entered the cage, the previous scenario replayed, with the snake’s core using black energy to assault Kaka’s arm, seeking to corrupt and erode him.
Physical attacks were ineffective against black energy, and magic attacks could only repel it briefly.
Left with no other choice, Kaka had to open the cage, releasing the core to recombine with the black energy and give birth to an even stronger black serpent.
Without waiting for Kaka to speak, Yang Yu’s face showed not a hint of hesitation. Drawing his sword, he took advantage of the serpent’s sluggish response and pierced through the snake’s core with a single strike, allowing it to dissipate into black energy and vanish into the air.
A pale fairy fell from the core, and Kaka raised his hand. Gentle light enveloped the already pallid fairy, lifting him high and allowing him to disperse into points of light.
A somber expression lingered on Kaka’s face as he looked towards Sisi nearby, who had been unable to lend a hand.
"Sisi, go tally up the casualties from this battle and make sure the injured are properly cared for," he said.
"Your command shall be obeyed, Your Majesty the King!" Sisi replied, bowing to Kaka and then, spreading her wings, flew into the hospital.
Kaka expressed gratitude to Yang Yu and the others but could not suppress the worry in his heart. Following Sisi, he went to check on the casualties and to confirm whether there were any infection cases worsening, to prepare in advance.
Inside the hospital, fairies in the isolation ward, upon hearing the loud noise, became unsettled. Most chose to crouch in corners, clutching their heads in an effort to prevent themselves from recalling the sound, or even more distant memories they wish not to remember.
Their negative emotions were only contained when Kaka appeared among the infected.
They believed in their king, believing that he could lead them away from the abyss.
Bathed in these hopeful gazes, a sharp pain struck Kaka’s chest.
If the root of the problem could not be addressed, the infected would eventually be completely corrupted, and then...
Suppressing the pain in his heart, Kaka still responded to these hopeful eyes with a smile. But after doing so, he exited the hospital as if fleeing, hastening his steps toward Yang Yu and the others.
Facing the towering figure of Yang Yu, Kaka struggled to transform the inner despair into hope.
This group of people, from their performance just now, seemed much more reliable than anticipated.
Even though they are not people sent by the Library... Rather it’s precisely because they are not from the Library that they might be able to help us completely rid ourselves of the darkness.
"As you have seen, our Fairy Clan is extremely susceptible to being corrupted by that darkness, turning into such monsters. Therefore, we are unable to rely on our own strength to seal away the darkness and must depend on humans who have resistance to this darkness."
A dazzling light burst forth before them, and Kaka pointed forward with a sweep of her hand. The light flew towards Yang Yu, growing larger in transit until it turned into a twenty-centimeter-long scroll.
"This is the tool essential for driving the darkness underground and performing the seal. Generally speaking, it is the humans who provide such scrolls. Since you are not the ’Saviors’ dispatched by the Library, we will provide it.
This scroll is a replica of the one previously used by humans for sealing. Though a replica, it is exceptionally effective, even more so than the sealing scrolls made by humans.
Just place it at the center of the darkness’s emergence, and it will initiate the sealing on its own, containing the leaking darkness."
Yang Yu casually placed the scroll in the most conspicuous part of his item bar and said,
"Do you have any leads on a method to completely eradicate the darkness? To be frank, although I’ve said I’d help you with the darkness, I also don’t know where to start. Perhaps we should share information, and maybe we could find the best solution."
Kaka shook her head, "Let’s talk about it after you complete the sealing. I’ve already thought of a plan... it’s a second resort, prepared in anticipation of humans abandoning us in our time of need. I hope you don’t disappoint me."
Seeing that Kaka did not wish to discuss the methods for completely eradicating the darkness for now, Yang Yu did not pursue the topic further but instead reconfirmed the procedure for the task.
Pass through the Barrier, evade the attacks of the Black Energy, and place the scroll at the center of the Hexagram to drive the darkness underground within the Barrier.
After confirming the procedure was correct, Yang Yu led his team toward the Sealing Barrier set by the fairies, while Kaka and Sisi chose not to follow and instead attended to the affairs of Fairyland.
Incidentally, Yang Yu temporarily entrusted He Meng to the care of the fairies in the flower field.
Fairies and demons are extremely sensitive to the Black Energy, and the slightest carelessness could result in He Meng becoming the ultimate BOSS within Fairyland.
Just the thought of fighting a three-hundred-round battle with the tough-skinned He Meng made Yang Yu feel as if his body couldn’t bear it, not to mention dealing with the BUG-like Skill of the Black Energy healing itself.
And so, Yang Yu also made every effort to prevent He Meng from being corrupted by the Black Energy and completely losing his sanity, excluding He Meng from the combat strength.
Stepping through the boundless expanse of the vast flower field, six towering pillars of light appeared once more before Yang Yu and his companions, standing tall and imposing.
The wasteland surrounding the Sealing Barrier had expanded further outward.
Even after completing the sealing, the seal did not entirely prevent the influence of the Black Energy, as the barrenness continued to spread unabated.
Stepping onto the barren ground, the cracked earth made a crisp cracking sound. Yang Yu opened the System to monitor the Status of the three at all times, so that he could retreat immediately with Bai Jin and Iyas in case of emergency.
As they approached the Sealing Barrier step by step, the bubbles trapped within trembled once more and violently shattered.
With the experience of the first time, Yang Yu and his companions now appeared much calmer, no matter how the blackness spread within the Barrier, it could never penetrate the Invisible walls and reach the outside world blooming with beautiful flowers.
