Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!
Chapter 147 Red Lotus Hell

Chapter 147: Chapter 147 Red Lotus Hell

"[Protection Shield]felt the force of the impact, one far more severe than Dian Wen had imagined. Although [Protection Shield] appeared unmoved, in reality, it had already lost half its blood."

"I must admit, that Archer is quite extraordinary. But, it’s all over now. [Protection Shield]lasts for two more seconds, which is more than enough time for me to complete my Magic."

Thinking this, Dian Wen rapidly retreated towards the edge of the arena, increasing the distance between himself and Yang Yu’s group.

As if his previous slowness were a deception, Yang Yu suddenly accelerated, lowering his sword to let it scrape against the ground, dragging a straight line.

This was not a meaningless action.

The best way to release the Skill[Thorny Binding]was to directly touch the ground with some part of the body, utilizing the earth’s strength to greatly enhance the toughness of the thorns and firmly trap the enemy.

[Thorny Binding]could be released without directly touching the ground, but not only would the quality and range of the thorns decrease significantly, it would also require a medium to be in contact with the ground for an extended time.

If one stood still, with shoes pressed tightly to the ground, [Thorny Binding]could be triggered immediately should an enemy come within a certain range.

After running, however, using that Skill wouldn’t be so easy.

After all, Mother Earth also prefers her quiet children. If the child is too restless, the connection between them would be intermittent, much like the relationship between a mother and a rebellious teenager—no one wants to lend strength to such an unruly child.

Since acquiring this Skill, Yang Yu had also tried as much as possible to release it by touching the ground with his hands to achieve the optimal effect.

But now, there wasn’t too much time for him to crouch down and touch the ground.

To produce thorns from the ground while in motion, he could only use the method of his sword rubbing against the floor.

Even though releasing the Skill in this manner was less powerful, it triumphed in being flexible and unexpected—ideal for interrupting someone’s Chanting.

Targeting the exact moment Dian Wen’s protective shield disappeared, Yang Yu activated [Thorny Binding], several thorns shot out swiftly, reaching for Dian Wen.

Thorns entwined, and Dian Wen became somewhat frantic as he had never seen such a Skill.

But he didn’t give up on Chanting. While waving his Magic Wand to fend off the thorns, he lifted his other hand, attempting to release the nearly woven Magic directly.

Unexpectedly, a thorn wrapped around his extended wrist, yanking his hand downward to the right.

Now Dian Wen faced two options.

One was to immediately cancel his Magic and use a different spell to cut through the thorns, create distance, and then reconsider the strategy.

The other was to release the Magic as he was, and have the Flame Magic[Red Lotus Hell]explode around him.

These were two difficult choices, and Dian Wen didn’t have much time to decide as Iyas once again drew her bow and Bai Jin finished her Frost Ice Arrow, casting it at him without a hint of hesitation while Yang Yu’s sword also drew ever closer to his face.

Hesitation leads to defeat!

Without time to waver, Dian Wen chose the second option. With his physical condition, he could ensure that his own [White Shield]would only lose half of its strength, and the opponents nearby would receive massive damage from [Red Lotus Hell]and be directly knocked out of the game—it wasn’t necessary to tangle with them any longer.

Massive flames burst forth from between Dian Wen’s hands, like a giant wave engulfing the side where Yang Yu and Bai Jin were, sweeping over himself as well, turning the thorns binding him to ash in an instant.

[Red Lotus Hell]was a Fire Attribute AOE with an incredibly large range. After use, it would leave a wide area of intense flame aftermath on the ground, forming walls of fire, inflicting damage simply by moving through them.

In the past, when facing team-based exam contestants, Dian Wen would use this Magic to determine the winner in one fell swoop.

Even if some examinees hadn’t lost their qualifications in these fiery blazes, they would have been surrounded by flames and unable to move. Dian Wen had plenty of time to finish them off.

He was very confident.

Nearly half of the battle platform was swallowed by flames, forming a sea of fire, and even the audience felt the scorching heat, but not a single spark passed through the barrier to the stands.

It was precisely because the entire battle platform was enclosed by a barrier that Dian Wen could use this move without any concern.

First, take out the two of them, leaving only that golden-haired, blue-eyed archer.

Raising his magic wand, Dian Wen aimed his attack at Iyas.

Suddenly, a silver blade swung through the firelight, slashing toward Dian Wen’s chest.

The whooshing sound reached his ears, and Dian Wen reacted with lightning speed, lifting his magic wand to block.

The blade struck the wand heavily, leaving a shallow mark.

The magic wand used by magicians is made through a special process, hard as steel, and not easily broken.

Bursting out of the sea of fire, Yang Yu retracted his blade and, with a reverse spin, swung another fiery slash.

Dian Wen once again used his wand to block, never having imagined that Yang Yu hadn’t been eliminated and was now counterattacking.

"This attack pattern is not something an ordinary person would have. Being able to take a hit like that shows that he has at least the qualifications of a B-level adventurer."

Defending desperately with his magic wand, Dian Wen was also waiting for his skill cooldown; as soon as "Protection Shield" was ready, he would have a chance to counterattack.

But the waiting was not easy.

A chill, like an ice spear, passed through the sea of fire and rushed toward Dian Wen, forcing him to take Yang Yu’s blow head-on while using "Magic Counter" to negate the "Frost Ice Arrow."

In the dancing flames, Bai Jin wove new magic; before the flames could reach her, she released the "Ice Cone Skill," intertwining ice and fire, creating steaming vapor, greatly reducing the damage of "Red Lotus Hell."

The White Shield on her remained more than three-quarters intact; by her estimates, it could withstand two more attacks from Dian Wen.

In contrast, Yang Yu was in a much worse situation.

To be honest, he hadn’t expected Dian Wen not to stop his magic but to pour it out, engulfing both himself and them.

He had intended to rely on having more blood and play aggressively, not expecting the opponent to be more reckless than he was.

Fortunately, the "Copper Wall Iron Curtain" and "Steel Body" he learned from the Skill Scroll, with enhanced resistances and damage reduction, enabled Yang Yu to charge through the flames all the way to Dian Wen.

Sadly, Yang Yu’s White Shield didn’t have much health left either. One attack from Dian Wen would be enough to knock him out of the arena.

This competition added a layer of White Shield to each person, determining the victor based on the depletion of the White Shield, so Yang Yu’s skill "Sudden Killing Intent" was useless, and he couldn’t activate the passive "Tenacity."

Yang Yu no longer had the chance to make mistakes at will.

Dian Wen desperately blocked with his wand, but Yang Yu’s sword seemed to find the flaws in his movements, each strike faster than the last, and Dian Wen was gradually unable to keep up.

Even more deadly, he didn’t only have to deal with Yang Yu in front of him but also the vigilantly waiting Iyas and Bai Jin.
