Chapter 122: All Things Library
Chapter 122: Chapter 122: All Things Library
Libraries are institutions for collecting, organizing, and storing books and materials for people to read and reference.
Whenever libraries are mentioned, images of neatly arranged rows of books, diligent students immersed in their studies, and the warm bonds formed by him and her touching the same book inadvertently flash before people’s eyes.
All Things Library, the world’s largest library, gathers countless knowledge and intelligence from around the world. Yang Yu had imagined what it was like numerous times.
In this game world close to reality, All Things Library boasts a cathedral-like majestic and exquisite appearance. Just standing at its base was enough to feel one’s own insignificance, making one sigh in wonder at how meager they were compared to the countless years of knowledge accumulated by humanity.
Inside the library, a vast array of books lined the shelves, capturing countless tales from across the globe, while people sat around tables, quietly reading and savoring knowledge.
Outside the library, there was a flat plaza made of white rose marble, stretching far and wide, where countless scholars engaged in lively debates and passionate discussions.
However, when Yang Yu actually arrived at All Things Library, he realized there was an insurmountable chasm between imagination and reality.
All Things Library, to be precise, the library part of it, was composed of five towering square pillars that soared into the clouds, piercing the sky. Upon closer inspection, these pillars resembled bamboo shoots, layered and rising in sections.
Yang Yu faintly felt he had seen these pillars somewhere before and with a sudden realization,
Damn, weren’t these just some skyscrapers?
Indeed, these libraries bore a striking resemblance to the skyscrapers Yang Yu had seen, and for the time being, he would refer to them as Sky-reaching Libraries.
As the sun set, the towering Sky-reaching Libraries shimmered in the glow of the setting sun.
Just as Yang Yu wondered if these libraries would light up when night fell, each of the five Sky-reaching Libraries began to glow in five different directions.
From where Yang Yu stood, he could see the front of a Sky-reaching Library in its entirety. The light on the front gradually formed into a series of huge characters.
"Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce of the Tren Kingdom sincerely invites cooperation from major chambers of commerce from various countries."
Yang Yu was astounded.
It wasn’t just the fact that the light on the Sky-reaching Library formed words, but also that the illuminated side was actually a scrolling display.
"Keli Cake Shop, sweet to the core, sweetness into your heart, for cakes, come to Keli Cake Shop."
"Dangdang Armor Store, the world-renowned number one armor store, want armor? Come to Dangdang!"
...
One advertisement after another scrolled across the surface of the Sky-reaching Library, making Yang Yu feel as though he had returned to the big city he came from.
Aside from the five Sky-reaching Libraries, the most eye-catching sight was the magic airships fluttering through the sky.
However, the magic airships also towed glowing banners behind them, each emblazoned with various advertising slogans.
Entering the city built around the Sky-reaching Library, a plethora of shops lined the streets, aglow with colorful lights. Hawkers’ calls rose and fell in waves, various food scents wafted through the air, dazzling gemstones sparkled brilliantly, weapon shop owners enthusiastically promoted their sturdy armor, and fashion boutique owners recommended trendy outfits to every well-dressed lady passing by...
The streets were bustling with people.
Ehhhh...
Did I find the wrong place? This feels nothing like a library but rather a thriving commercial district.
Plagued by deep skepticism, Yang Yu asked his companions, Bai Jin and Iyas.
"The map shows it’s right here."
"I’ve been with you long enough to know how to read a map, and yes, it’s right here."
Receiving unanimous answers from the two, Yang Yu slowly regained his composure.
There’s no doubt that this is the All Things Library.
There must be some reason why the All Things Library has become like this! There has to be some hidden task!
Pulling up in a carriage at an inn, Yang Yu said to the receptionist, "One single room, one double room. And a stable as well."
"A single room is eight hundred per day, a double room is one thousand two hundred, and the stable is three hundred per day."
"What? I was under the impression this wasn’t some luxurious hotel, so why is it so expensive?"
Yang Yu tilted his head, recalling that a luxurious double room at the inns he used to stay in only cost one hundred and twenty. Now, the price at this inn had soared tenfold.
The receptionist sighed, "This price is already considered cheap around here.
Is it your first time at the All Things Library?
Then it’s normal to be unaware.
Every year, there are a few who think they’ve saved enough for the trip to take the Library exam, only to end up begging and sleeping on the streets for days...
If you find it expensive, please feel free to look elsewhere."
With such high prices and such an ordinary lodging, Yang Yu naturally couldn’t bear it, so he set out with Bai Jin and Iyas to find another inn, only to discover that this one was even more expensive by a few hundred.
After bouncing around several more inns, Yang Yu still couldn’t find an affordable place. To stable a horse at those inns for three or four days could cost enough to buy a new one.
In the end, Yang Yu decided to sell the carriage and then catch someone easy to bully... no, to find someone kind-hearted on the street and inquire properly about the situation here.
Walking along the street, Yang Yu came across a bookstore that stood out from the bustling streets – a stark mismatch.
White light illuminated every corner of the bookstore, yet there were hardly any customers, just a person who looked like a magician sitting leisurely at the owner’s desk, yawning away.
In a place where the cost of living was so high, to run such an unprofitable bookstore meant either there was something wrong with the owner’s head, or this bookstore was directly affiliated with the Library.
Just as Yang Yu was about to approach the owner to ask about the situation here, a young man with green hair hurried into the bookstore and returned a book to the owner.
After the owner pocketed the book, the young man took out a purple card from his pocket, handed it to the owner, and then pointed to a book in the store. After a brief conversation, the young man received the book he wanted from the owner.
Through the pane, Yang Yu figured out everything about the young man. His name was Shu Jing, high intelligence, but only LV1, a true-to-life civilian.
With a pair of large round glasses and a slender frail frame, clean and neat, he looked like an easy target... he looked patently kind-hearted.
Setting his sights, Yang Yu silently circled to intercept Shu Jing on his way back.
As Shu Jing turned with the book in his arms, he collided squarely with Yang Yu and fell to the ground, his book sliding from his grasp.
Shu Jing quickly apologized, "I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to."
Bending over, Yang Yu picked up the book and handed it to Shu Jing, "Are you okay? I should be the one apologizing. I was so taken aback by how different this place is from what I expected that I accidentally bumped into you."
Shu Jing adjusted his glasses and got up, "Thank you for picking up and returning my book. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be on my way."
Taking the book, Shu Jing had just taken a step when Yang Yu grabbed the young man’s shoulder and a sly smile appeared on his lips, "Don’t be in such a rush! I’m not a bad guy."
"Sir, do you need something else?"
Perhaps it was Yang Yu’s overly kind smile that made the young man named Shu Jing tremble, worried that he had done something wrong again.
"Actually, it’s nothing much. It’s my first time here at the All Things Library, and I’m not familiar with a lot of things. If you don’t mind," Yang Yu casually indicated a cake shop behind them, "could we go there and have a chat? I have quite a few questions I’d like to ask you."
