Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Get me one too
Just then, Amon’s crescent-shaped black beam wasn’t aimed at me, but rather to tell me that he could attack Bai Jin at any moment. "If you really think you can protect that girl, go ahead and try."... Although he spoke those words, he still chose to reveal his trump card in advance.
Yang Yu didn’t ridicule Amon for his naivety; he knew that Amon’s fall was probably also due to his compassionate nature.
Compassion itself isn’t wrong. It’s just... the angel persona was set up to be too perfect from the start, and even the slightest flaw could become a chain for those with malicious intent.
With a heavy heart yet charging forward, Yang Yu gave Iyas his command,
"Iyas, get moving, try attacking from multiple directions, show me that so-called excellent elf warrior spirit of yours!"
Worried about Bai Jin, who was also a girl, Iyas knew that now was not the time she could afford to look after her quietly.
When she heard Yang Yu’s words, she became even more determined to fight.
For an excellent elf warrior in a moment of hesitation, fighting is the only choice.
Although Iyas didn’t fully grasp Yang Yu’s earlier grandiose speech, she understood that to make Amon’s plan difficult to execute, she needed to tie Amon down alongside Yang Yu.
Taking up her bow and nocking arrow after arrow, Iyas shot them to protect Yang Yu.
She had decided that until this battle was over, she would seriously listen to every one of Yang Yu’s commands and timely coordinate her actions.
In a few breaths, Yang Yu approached Amon, swung his sword toward Amon’s chest—metal clashed, reverberating through the empty room.
In a contest of strength, Yang Yu was utterly defeated.
Therefore, the moment sword and spear collided, Yang Yu didn’t choose to stalemate but instead stepped back several times, allowing the Long Spear to sweep in front of him. Then, seizing the opportunity as the Long Spear missed its target, Yang Yu swung his Sword Blade, aiming for Amon’s side.
With a subtle flutter of wings, Amon made both Yang Yu and Iyas’ attacks futile. He gripped his Long Spear tightly, hoisting it upward in a strange arc, aiming straight for Yang Yu’s chest.
Puffing his chest and sucking in his belly, Yang Yu sidestepped, letting the Long Spear graze past his chest, and immediately clamped his shield onto Amon’s face, pushing Amon back several steps.
"Iyas, ’Hunter Mark’ and ’Deadly Shot.’"
Giving the command, Yang Yu quickly crouched down, his shielded hand lightly touching the ground, activating "Thorny Binding." Emerald thorns burst forth from the pristine floor, coiling around Amon’s body, restraining his hands and feet.
Iyas drew her Longbow wide, with only Amon in her sightline. The golden arrow streaked across the sky like a shooting star, headed straight for Amon’s chest.
At the critical moment, Amon broke free from the thorns, raised his Long Spear high, and a pale golden protective shield emanated from the spear’s tip, instantly enveloping him. Iyas’ arrow split in two upon touching the Light Shield, and Yang Yu’s attacking Sword Blade also struck the tough protective shield.
Amon hadn’t sustained any damage; Yang Yu frowned in frustration. He had a short-duration shield that could make him immune to injury, no wonder he completely gave up defense, concentrating all his Defense Attributes into offense.
"This move is called ’Holy Protection.’ Besides powerful holy attacks, no other attacks can penetrate this Light Shield."
Amon said triumphantly as he swung his Long Spear at Yang Yu.
"That’s a nice Skill, from where one can learn it, and if possible, can you hook me up with one too?"
By nimbly moving about, Yang Yu comfortably dissolved Amon’s offensive. Honestly, Yang Yu was extremely envious of such short-term invincibility.
"Just having this Skill, all the death-defying acts and impressive displays he previously dared not attempt could now be achieved. Maybe he could even fully exploit its magical uses, playing out its variety."
"But Yang Yu knew in his heart that such a wondrous Skill wouldn’t be easy to obtain, or else it would already be commonplace."
Sure enough, Amon shook his head, "This move is a legacy from the Angel’s bloodline, not something just anybody can learn."
"Should I take that as a given?"
"Mhm."
Using the Light Shield once cost a hundred and fifty mana, and with a total of one thousand two hundred mana, Amon could use it about eight or nine more times. Each instance of invincibility lasted roughly six seconds, and standing still, it could potentially last longer.
After a brief exchange, Yang Yu estimated the approximate duration of "Holy Protection."
Once the Light Shield ceased, Yang Yu had Iyas launch another attack, "Iyas, ’Guaranteed Hit Arrow,’ followed by a normal attack."
Upon receiving the new command, Iyas took a new arrow from the quiver and nocked it onto the bowstring.
As she drew the bowstring, the whole arrow transformed, enveloped in a unique radiance and turning ethereal and translucent.
The arrow, barely flown, went "whoosh" and disappeared in mid-flight. A second later, as if materializing from the void, it struck Amon on the shoulder.
This was the first time Yang Yu witnessed the special effect of a guaranteed hit ability. He was somewhat surprised when he initially found out Iyas possessed this Skill.
If truly unavoidable abilities existed in this world, then his flamboyant dodging would have been utterly pointless.
Up until now, all enemies had been slow-moving, bulky targets. With Iyas’s "High-Speed Shooting" and "Absolute Accuracy," her attacks were almost always on target, hence Yang Yu never had the chance to test "Guaranteed Hit Arrow." He did not know if it could genuinely guarantee a hit.
Looking at it now, "Guaranteed Hit Arrow" indeed seemed capable of hitting without fail.
The moment before being struck by the arrow, Amon made a clear attempt to dodge, yet the arrow shifted with him, puncturing his shoulder.
Though the damage was not significant, it was certainly better than Yang Yu using a Shield to hammer away.
However, "Guaranteed Hit Arrow" had raised Yang Yu’s sense of danger.
With "Guaranteed Hit Arrow" already in existence, would "Guaranteed Hit Sword" and "Guaranteed Hit Spear" be far behind? By then, no matter how swift or skillful his movements, coming across a genius with guaranteed hit abilities would still end in failure.
Therefore, Defensive Battle was the Righteous Path. He truly couldn’t keep stacking Speed, or he’d be utterly finished.
Yang Yu suddenly felt somewhat relieved he hadn’t impulsively added all his free attribute points to Speed.
After pulling the arrow from his shoulder, Amon lightly flapped his wings and took this opportunity to evade a few successive shots from Iyas.
"Good aim, but the arrows are too slow. Without using Skills, they can’t hit me at all. I’ve fought countless battles in my life, and the techniques are engraved in my heart. I’ve seen far too many arrows faster than yours. Even with a lower Level now, just relying on my battle instincts, I’m more than capable of dodging your attacks."
Discarding the arrows, Amon’s wounded shoulder healed instantly, and he lunged at Yang Yu with his Long Spear.
