Demon Hunter and His Cabin -
Chapter 899 - 680: Ride On Me_2
Chapter 899: Chapter 680: Ride On Me_2
Roger blinked, and the surroundings were indeed shrouded in an all-encompassing Mist, but it didn’t feel as blurry as Sonia described. If he desired, he could seamlessly enter another kind of state.
In that state, his vision became far clearer, exponentially so. He could see a distant glow, like a beacon, casting light in all directions.
According to Sonia, each of those locations corresponded to another world.
"What’s going on?"
Roger’s mind was clouded, but suddenly, a flash of clarity sparked in his thoughts, and he connected it to the Mist Hut.
"Could that fragment... possibly exist within this very environment?"
A faint idea emerged in his mind, but Sonia kept urging him near his ears, leaving Roger no room to ponder deeply.
He had no choice but to suppress his thoughts and focus on searching.
"Not just anyone can freely embark on an interdimensional journey."
"You determine the route, and I will break the barrier."
The beacons in the surroundings varied in color. Of course, this didn’t mean that there actually existed physical beacons in those worlds—it was merely an instinctive visualization within the mind.
Relying on his sharpened vision and understanding of space, Roger quickly pinpointed a relatively safe path.
It must be said: the Words of Truth were truly a remarkable artifact.
Though lacking offensive power, it invisibly added significant chances of survival to any Transcendent attempting dimensional travel.
"Get on me."
Sonia spoke with seriousness, and Roger’s trace of consciousness linked with hers.
Her gaze turned hollow as she stared into a specific spot in the void.
That spot aligned precisely with the direction Roger had pointed out.
Though puzzled by Sonia’s command, Roger didn’t think much of it—they were both Transcendents, after all. Quickly circling behind Sonia, he placed a hand on her shoulder, then lightly leapt up.
He mounted her.
Sonia’s tall figure wasn’t much shorter than Roger’s height. Her proportions were flawless, and as he pressed against her fully, Roger felt an astonishing elasticity in her muscles.
But in the next instant, he sensed a subtle trembling in the body beneath him.
"Are her injuries that severe? She can’t even bear my weight?"
Roger was puzzled, though he was more perplexed by the reason behind Sonia’s particular instruction.
Then he heard Sonia grit out the second half of her sentence through clenched teeth: "When I transform into a dragon..."
Could you just finish your sentence all at once?
Awkwardly, Roger climbed down from Sonia.
The next moment, a resounding dragon roar echoed. Sonia leaped into mid-air, and in that split second, space tore open into a rift.
In her dragon form, Sonia dove into it. Roger hesitated not even a moment, jumping on as quickly as possible.
The scenery around them shifted drastically.
The two had already left the room at Kaer Morhen, and chaos surrounded them. Sonia’s voice echoed near Roger’s ears.
"Guide me, we must speed up. My form is incomplete, my strength’s loss is severe—I can’t sustain this for long."
Sonia lacked wings; her flight seemed to rely on some other capability.
On Roger’s forehead, an eye-shaped marking emerged, shooting out a ray of light that dispelled the Mist as it passed through.
Sonia lunged forward, and the two seemed to become one, darting ahead at high velocity.
Roger dared not lose focus. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of the spaces and warped scenery around them—layers of intersecting spaces.
"This is the juncture at the edges of worlds, the most chaotic and perilous terrain."
"More than half of Transcendents perish while traversing the pathways to other worlds."
"Furthermore, time within the channel is distorted."
A chill swept through Roger’s heart as he realized that, since entering this place, he’d exchanged only a few short sentences with Sonia.
Yet it was impossible for him to estimate how much time those few exchanges had consumed.
Seconds?
Hours?
Or even days?
He thought for just a moment, but it felt as though ages had passed.
"The rift!"
"We can’t directly break through the world’s barrier; we need to find an intersecting rift to enter the other world."
Roger nodded.
He understood the place Sonia referred to—it was akin to the Cursed Land in the real world.
A space caught in the oscillation between existence and nonexistence—a crack and flaw in the original world.
At that moment, a thought suddenly arose in Roger’s mind.
If such places didn’t exist, would it mean the barrier of that world would be absolutely impenetrable?
"We’re going in."
Sonia gasped, sounding fatigued. She seemed to be enduring immense pain.
"Hold on tight to me, don’t..."
Before Sonia could finish her words, a flash of brilliant white light appeared before them, and a tremendous force slammed into them.
Roger clung tightly to the Dragon Scales on Sonia’s body. The force was so overwhelming that he eventually felt as though his palms had sunk into Sonia’s flesh.
His soul went blank.
His consciousness appeared to transcend everything, yet at that moment, a chilling sensation suddenly gripped Roger’s heart.
Despite being unable to perceive his own body, the fear seared into his very marrow almost made him cry out.
No need to open his eyes, nor could he look back.
It felt as though he was firmly locked by an unfathomable gaze.
A prying presence from an unknown origin.
Unrelenting and unabashedly powerful.
"Run!"
The single thought dominated his mind.
Fortunately, at that moment, the white light dispersed, and he regained his sense of body—had they entered another world?
The suffocating gaze upon him also vanished.
"Huff... Huff..."
Roger gasped heavily, his soul and body seemingly torn apart. His mind descended into chaos, and it took him a long time before he regained his ability to think.
"What was that?"
He recalled Sword Master Cold Crow’s previous conjecture.
"Has it found me?"
"Or was it just a coincidence?"
A heavy mood settled over him.
Pigs strive to live, but outside the pen, the butcher has long sharpened the blade.
"Stay calm; deal with what’s in front of you first."
Diving into his consciousness, Roger first inspected the functionalities of the Hunter’s Cabin.
Time had been short. Despite the absorption of the Wings of Shadow, the Hunter’s Cabin had yet to complete its evolution.
With a thought, none of the three Hunter’s Cabins could be activated—not even Kaer Morhen was perceptible.
Fortunately, the abilities enhanced by the Hunter’s Cabin that were imbued onto his body still remained.
"Is the consciousness-based Hunter’s Cabin separate from the three physical cabins based in the real world?"
"Or is my current level simply too low?"
Roger began to feel an urgency for his next upgrade.
"Power."
After verifying the state of the Hunter’s Cabin, Roger began studying the changes in his abilities.
Moments later.
"Is it really this overwhelming?"
Within his mind, aside from the energy Roger had converted into Sword Seals, all other power—be it the Bloodline Power or Spiritual Power—had nearly vanished entirely.
Even the Dharma Seal he had used during his Low-Tier phase was suppressed to near-ineffectiveness.
"Partly due to interference from the rules, and partly because this world’s Energy Level is significantly higher."
Luckily, Roger’s main combat skills were now concentrated in the two most potent Sword Seals. Furthermore, when he acquired the Eye of Truth, he hadn’t just absorbed the Wings of Shadow but had also taken hidden remnants from within the eye itself.
It might not be long before Roger could condense a third Sword Seal.
Even though he was still at the Fourth Tier, upon entering the Otherworld, his adaptability far surpassed that of most Fifth Tiers.
Possessing five Sword Seals could elevate Roger’s strength to be virtually unbeatable at the Fourth Tier. More importantly, maintaining full combat effectiveness would grant him a significant advantage during interdimensional travel.
Combined with Black Moon in his possession, even if he wasn’t at the Fifth Tier, he’d still be far more terrifying than the majority of Fifth Tiers!
"At this rate... Once my strength improves in the future, if I meet an unlucky Fifth Tier somewhere, perhaps I could find ways to lure them into another world."
"And then... heh heh."
With his current condition assessed, Roger finally turned his attention to the surrounding environment.
