Demon Hunter and His Cabin
Chapter 846 - 655: The Malice of the World

Chapter 846: Chapter 655: The Malice of the World

Roger didn’t speak. Instead, he carefully studied the expression on Sword Master Cold Crow’s face. After a moment, he shook his head.

"We are different. I know where you came from."

"I’ve been to that place!"

"I’ve seen its structures, the many Guardian Spirits sealed and oppressed within the towers, and the creature circling high above the space!!"

"That dragon from the West."

The words Roger uttered were clearly beyond Sword Master Cold Crow’s expectations. A subtle change appeared on his face.

"You actually went there."

Sword Master Cold Crow sighed.

"I think you should understand my feelings and thoughts better."

Sword Master Cold Crow’s words left Roger somewhat bewildered. But before he could voice his confusion, "There’s only us here, you don’t need to worry. No one else will learn where you come from."

"Where I come from?" Roger chuckled. Truth be told, he didn’t even know where he truly came from.

A technologically advanced civilized society, or a chaotic, monster-infested medieval era?

"Just who are you exactly?" Roger asked.

"Are you the child trudging through the snow, or the Three-legged Crow locked within the tower?"

"That Silver Dragon has sealed countless legendary Guardian Spirits to prevent the Cultivators of Everworld from ascending to higher tiers, thereby hindering her recovery."

"Is that it?"

"Recovering from injuries?" Sword Master Cold Crow shook his head. "It’s not merely about that. She clearly wants more!"

"The Fifth Tier is no longer just a pure accumulation of power. Eventually, individual progress will face the constraints of the world’s rules. Only by breaking free from those rules can one continue evolving."

"She longs not only for healing but for infiltrating and mastering the rules of Everworld through the devouring of these legendary Guardian Spirits."

"At that time, even if she cannot transcend these rules, she can still achieve transformation through them, becoming even stronger!"

"Compared to venturing into unknown worlds to search for World Fragments, this approach is evidently far safer."

"But the cost of this is the disaster of all beings in Everworld!"

"Unable to endure such deprivation, I could only choose to flee, then reincarnate in Everworld, gather strength, and start a new Chapter."

"I thought this was the end of the old and the beginning of the new. As long as I remained hidden, she’d never have any chance of finding me."

"But I think you understand that feeling..."

"Escape is only temporary. The stronger the power, the tighter the connection becomes. I’ve finally realized that, as part of the small world’s rules, I can never truly escape that thing."

Sword Master Cold Crow’s voice grew uncharacteristically heavy.

"Not even through death!"

Roger’s heart skipped a beat.

"There’s nowhere to escape, no way to resist. Under the oppression of Everworld’s rules, the power I possess now is already at its limit."

"Even if my strength increased tenfold, it still would be incapable of harming her."

"This is an iron law."

"It’s the suppression of Fifth Tier Transcendents over us!"

"Then came the Spirit Sword Project."

"The original purpose of this project was because I needed to forge a weapon, a weapon capable of damaging the Fifth Tier!"

Roger’s eyes reflected a hint of astonishment. He had initially thought the so-called Spirit Sword Project was Sword Master Cold Crow’s effort to extend his own life. But now it was clear he had far greater ambitions.

He wanted to slay the dragon.

Only by killing the Silver Dragon could he break free of the shackles binding him and obtain true freedom.

With freedom, everything else would have meaning.

"I succeeded, yet I also failed." Sword Master Cold Crow’s gaze sank slightly, his expression reverted to calm indifference.

Roger conjured various memories in an instant and understood the implication behind Sword Master Cold Crow’s words.

He had created a sword able to harm the Fifth Tier, but he still needed someone to wield it.

Clearly, Yatagarasu Kensumi wasn’t the ideal choice.

"When I was nearing the level of Sword Master, I discovered the restrictions enveloping me. From that moment, the Spirit Sword Project had already begun."

"To maximize the sword’s potential, I thought about bloodline inheritance, and thus Meiryu’s birth came about."

"But unfortunately, I failed. Meiryu’s character and aptitude were insufficient to fully realize my strength."

"He is ambitious and fiercely competitive, but tragically, his capabilities cannot bear the weight of his aspirations."

"And so, Kensumi came about."

"In terms of aptitude, Kensumi far surpasses Meiryu by leaps and bounds. Yet the pity lies in his inner nature, his will, and his lack of resonance with my swordsmanship."

"He is a competent tool, but not a perfect Sword Bearer."

Hearing this cold, detached assessment, Roger couldn’t suppress a shiver.

These two individuals—one his Bloodline Heir, the other the inheritor of his power—could arguably be considered the closest to Sword Master Cold Crow.

But whether it was one or the other, their existence was nothing more than tools to Sword Master Cold Crow.

What unsettled Roger even more was the lack of any perception of callousness in Sword Master Cold Crow’s narrative. He was resolute, like the ice stones of Hankawa.

No, this man might truly be devoid of emotions. He was purely rational.

"Kensumi’s talent is extraordinary. Within five years, he will undoubtedly become a Sword Master, and in at most ten years, the Extreme Path Sword Master is highly probable!"

Roger eyed Sword Master Cold Crow. "Perhaps you should give it a try. I believe some of Yatagarasu Akiryu’s methods are remarkably similar to yours." Roger couldn’t help but mock him.

"Different."

"I’ve conducted similar experiments before."

"The so-called Sword Bearer is not chosen at random. A shared inheritance of power can greatly enhance the synergy between the Sword Bearer and the weapon, but there’s another crucial element."
