Demon Hunter and His Cabin -
Chapter 844 - 654 We Are All the Same
Chapter 844: Chapter 654 We Are All the Same
"Stay awake, I can’t afford to lose any more memories." Roger murmured to himself.
To him, even in the deepest recesses of his mind, the cabin remained a unique anchor point—within his subconscious, it was a gateway to the Transcendent connection.
Roger understood that leaving this eerie place was not something his powers alone could accomplish; he had to go against the grain.
Only by stimulating his mental state in the reverse direction of reality could he fully awaken.
But what comes after that?
He would still have to face an unbeatable enemy.
Unless...
Unless he could change the battleground, molding the circumstances to his favor.
The instincts of this body were gradually recovering, continuously pressing against Roger’s consciousness.
Without his earlier experiences, without strengthening his spirit to an extraordinary level during the Dream Trials—
Roger suspected that when he was surrounded by Sword Master Cold Crow’s attack and saw that Black Moon, he might have already failed then and there.
But the time left to him now was equally running short.
More importantly, Roger still couldn’t find a way to break the deadlock.
He didn’t know if, once his consciousness dissipated this time, he would be able to wake up again—or, if he did, how much memory he would still retain.
Time and time again.
Until the end.
He closed his eyes, sketching two symbols in his mind—these represented the two Sword Seals he had mastered completely.
Quinn and Alder.
But as he had surmised, this wasn’t the real world; he could only outline the trajectories of these Sword Seals here, unable to activate any actual power.
"Quinn... Alder..."
Roger repeated the names over and over. He had no idea what purpose this served—it was simply the only method he could think of at the moment.
These two Sword Seals held significant weight in Roger’s power system. What was more important, however, was that when he successfully condensed a complete Quinn Sword Seal,
that power had been transferred, enshrouding the Hunter’s Cabin.
What Roger could do now was leverage this faint trace of power from within the projection of his consciousness to stir his dormant spirit. Using this as a foothold, he could link to the Hunter’s Cabin!
Once he established contact with the Hunter’s Cabin, Roger might be able to awaken once more and, through this, launch his counterattack!
"Quinn... Alder..."
Repeated over and over again, yet his mind remained an empty void. It was like water without a source—just one critical point needed to be unlocked, and power would surge forth.
"Shuntsuki, what are you doing?"
At that moment, a voice suddenly came from outside the room. Its tone was slightly deepened, but Roger could still recognize its owner.
It must be that young man who took him away on the snowy field.
"Today is an important occasion. The teacher rarely visits this place. If you perform well enough, you might get the chance to become his student, like me."
"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!"
Teacher... Roger pondered carefully. Was Sword Master Cold Crow’s teacher the future Tengu Divine Master?
But he couldn’t leave this place now. Without hesitation, he spoke directly: "You go ahead. I need to prepare a bit more. Don’t worry; I won’t miss something this important."
Roger also didn’t understand the logic behind the dynamics of the figures in this place. Were they rooted in real memories, or were they merely controlled by some hidden force in the shadows?
The footsteps outside came to a halt. "Good, as long as you know. I’ll head over first."
Roger let out a quiet breath of relief. Since he didn’t understand the operational rules here, a direct refusal might have raised suspicion. A convenient excuse seemed like the only workable option for now.
But that was simply a stopgap measure. It couldn’t buy much time. The moment Roger relaxed his guard even slightly, an invisible force suddenly jolted through him, as if pulling him outward.
His control over his body plummeted.
In no time, Roger transitioned from being the Manipulator to a mere spectator.
"Damn it, it’s starting again!"
Roger’s heart sank. He "watched" himself stand up, change into a different set of clothes, and push the door open to head out.
"Has the fusion begun?"
His mind grew hazy, his attention slipping away. At times, he instinctively felt that his current actions were perfectly natural,
as if these were things he was inherently meant to do.
Displaying skill, earning approval, and then becoming a student of that powerful figure.
From then on, rising rapidly to the Peak, achieving greatness.
"This should have been my story!"
Such an eerie thought surfaced in Roger’s mind. His consciousness began to blur, and the sensation of his brain being hollowed out returned, this time even more violently than before.
"By consuming his experiences and consciousness, they aim to swallow me and complete the transformation."
"If they succeed, I would lose all control over my own body. Because everything would have genuinely happened... His memories would become my memories, and my body would naturally become his body!"
Wearing close-fitting gear, Yatagarasu Tsukihiko stood outside the house. Simultaneously, as this body moved further from the house, Roger’s consciousness began dissipating again—this time, more completely than ever.
Even in the grip of fear, Roger could do nothing to change what was happening, forcing all his focus into the depths of his awareness.
Like a candle flickering in a cold wind, his conscious flame wavered between brightness and darkness. But near the core of the flame, two symbols began to slowly take form.
There was no overwhelming force emanating from them, yet they concealed indescribable rules within.
