Demon Hunter and His Cabin
Chapter 269 - Chapter 269 Chapter 269 The Trial

Chapter 269: Chapter 269: The Trial Chapter 269: Chapter 269: The Trial Having undergone the Green Grass Trial once, Roger was extremely familiar with each of its steps, and the risk factor had invisibly reduced a lot.

Furthermore, he held in his hand a horn from a Night Demon, providing an extra supply of energy that could increase his chances of success.

“At least seventy or eighty percent sure,” he muttered.

Henrik was slightly moved.

He knew Roger well; this number was probably a conservative estimate, yet even so, such odds were astonishing to anyone.

Originally, it was by a stroke of luck that Roger used the spine of a demonic bull monster, and its high quality had brought significant uncertainty to his promotion.

If it were ordinary Transcendent Materials, although he wouldn’t gain an explosive growth after the promotion, the process would be relatively safer.

Considering Henrik’s strength, Roger had already thought of several potion configuration plans.

“You’re not joking?”

Henrik stared intently at Roger. If it weren’t for Roger raising the topic, Henrik would have been ready to proceed forcefully.

Stuck at the same level without progressing, he would rather die.

“Am I not a living example?”

A glint of temptation flickered in Henrik’s eyes but was quickly suppressed.

“Judging by your serious look, I almost believed you,” Henrik said, pretending to be unconcerned as he waved his hand dismissively.

“Henrik.”

Roger cut him off.

“I know what you’re worried about.”

“The legacy of a family is indeed the most crucial secret, but I care more about the life and death of my own friends.”

“Or are you not confident in yourself?”

A strange smile appeared on Roger’s face.

“Besides, you promised me that after your success…”

“WTF!”

Henrik’s face turned green, thinking of a certain image.

“You little bastard, you did that on purpose!”

“Do you want to give it a try?” Roger asked, his expression turning serious.

Henrik tilted his head back defiantly, “Bring it on!”

“Roger…”

Henrik’s voice was laced with sycophantic flattery.

“I think we could slow down a bit, look at me, I’ve just been through the First Tier of the tempering, and you’re asking me to jump straight into the Second Tier.”

“I think this potion could harm the body…”

“Don’t come any closer!”

“Let me finish what I’m saying.”

“Ah…!”

Henrik’s screams echoed in the room, followed by the sound of fists striking flesh.

“Stop, don’t hit me anymore.”

“I’ll drink it, I’ll drink all of it!”

Henrik slumped against the wall, looking despondent, then tipped his head back and downed the potion from the test tube.

Roger withdrew his raised fist.

“This guy can’t possibly have some special fetish that I’ve triggered, can he?”

Henrik’s body had already met the standards for advancement, but due to the Night Demon absorbing the essence of his body, his foundation had been destroyed.

In other words, his current body was almost out of potential to tap into.

Henrik was only in his early thirties, but his appearance could easily be mistaken for a man in his forties.

Normally, after being drained by a Night Demon, Henrik would have been reduced to an average person, but he had forcefully sustained himself on potions.

At the cost of damaging his body and lifespan, he had once more raised his physical condition to the human limit.

But he could not go any further.

This was also why he dared not absorb the essence of the Night Demon’s horn.

However, the Green Grass Trial had perfectly solved this issue for him, even though the process was excruciatingly painful.

Roger was fine; he had been through hardships every step of the way, completely immersed in the abyss of suffering, but Henrik was different. Demon Hunters like him had never gone through the agony of the Green Grass Trial.

“I finally understand why there’s only you left in your family…”

Henrik cocked his head and looked at Roger.

“This is anything but a promotion; it’s clearly…”

“Ah~~”

The soul-wrenching scream came again, and Henrik convulsed uncontrollably as he collapsed against the wall with rolling eyes.

“This guy…”

Roger shook his head helplessly.

He had the determination stronger than anyone else, yet he always needed to be punched before he could swallow the potion.

Roger didn’t leave but sat nearby, observing Henrik’s physical reactions.

“It seems your body’s endurance is a lot stronger than I thought; next time, I ought to increase the dosage appropriately.”

Henrik’s trembling intensified when he heard this.

“You… just wait for me!”

He said viciously.

Roger grinned, revealing his teeth.

“My dear Henrik, do you think it’s over?”

“In fact, the real trial hasn’t even begun.”

“After tempering, we still need dissolution, which is a simpler step, merely drinking some potions; what comes next, the Green Grass Trial, is the main event.”

“Hmm…” Roger put on a thoughtful act.

“If I remember correctly, the Green Grass Trial should also have three stages.”

“Most importantly, the process will last for 7 days.”

Hearing this, Henrik’s eyes widened.

“Now I really regret climbing through your window that night.”

Roger was all black lines.

“Tough it out yourself; I’m going to collect some other materials for you.”

With that, he left through the door.

First, he called Terry; by now, Terry had almost become his material collector.

Without the corresponding income from Gwent Cards, Roger and Henrik’s assets would probably have gone bankrupt long ago.

Besides, Roger had found a new supporter.

Dickinson.

“Mr. Dickinson, about those materials I mentioned to you last time…”

“I’ve nearly gathered everything already, and it just so happens there’s only a few days left until our gathering.”

“I will introduce you to a few new friends.”

“Is the time for the gathering fixed?”

“Yes,” Dickinson replied.

“On the night of the Full Moon, we will communicate through ceremony, and spells will cast us all into the same place; before then, you need a bit of a disguise.”

“Sometimes, keeping a bit of mystery is good for all involved.”

“Tree trunks of Wisteria Wood aged over thirty years, soaked in the juice of Hundred Parsley Grass, can effectively fend off the prying of spells; add on a little disguise, and absolutely no one can discover your true face.”

“Do you need me to supply the aforementioned materials?”

“No, thank you.”

Roger politely declined.

“I hope to get my hands on that batch of materials as soon as possible.”

“I appreciate your generosity.”

Roger said.

“I will deliver them to you as quickly as possible; if you have any other requests, just ask. Our interests are aligned; your strength is my strength.”

“Don’t thank me; one day, you will treat me the same way I am treating you,” Dickinson said with sincerity.

Since Roger couldn’t be certain of Dickinson’s stance, the materials he requested from him were not essential to him.

They were needed by Terry.

Roger would hand over the materials obtained from Dickinson to Terry; after inspection, they would then be traded for the actual materials Roger needed.

Although this method might cause some delays, it at least ensured the safety of the materials.

Henrik was in good physical condition, and Roger had also prepared the third-tier Tempering Potion for him.

With a few more days of adaptation, Henrik should be ready to start the real Green Grass Trial.
