Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband
Chapter 252: The Pressure Of His Expectations

Chapter 252: The Pressure Of His Expectations

Thane frowned as he watched Brooke get into Julian’s car. He had tried convincing her not to go over there, but Brooke refused to listen.

And when he tried going with her, she refuted the idea, "Cassie saw you once at the audition, she knows you’re the heir. She’ll question our relationship if we show up together."

But Thane didn’t care about anything of the sort, "Then come home, why do you need to see those people?"

"Because, I know them better than I know anyone, I’ll know after talking to Serena if Luther isn’t Cassie’s actual father." She reasoned.

In a quieter tone she added, "And right now, I don’t think I want to go home with you right now."

Reflecting on her words, Thane didn’t know what he was feeling. Back when he picked her up from prison, he was definitely angry, but now his spirits were down, and in place of his usual affection was a hint of...tiredness?

A hand rested on his shoulder, pulling him out of his thoughts, he leered over his shoulder to see Julian standing behind him.

"I see you lovebirds are having a fight." He pointed out.

Thane slapped his hand away, he turned around and stared daggers at him, "If you so much as lay a hand-"

Julian leaned in, cutting him off, "Young Grayson, I have a favor I need you to do..."

Brooke watched from the car’s window as Thane and Julian shared a conversation. She clutched her shirt, as their talk expanded into minutes, their voices so low she couldn’t pick out a word of what they were saying.

Was it about her? Had she made a mistake giving Thane some space? After their argument at the car, she felt the need to be useful, useful to somebody.

Thane would lose interest if she couldn’t handle things and prove her worth to him. If she kept getting into trouble, he’d he bound to get tired...

She shook her head, ’He can’t get tired of me.’ She bit her lips, that was the one thing Brooke felt she would not be able to handle.

Her thoughts were disrupted when Julian returned to the car and instructed the driver to take them back to the mansion. However, he returned with Thane’s driver, who was sent to accompany Brooke by her husband.

A necessary requirement that had to be filled.

For the first half of the drive, Brooke kept her gaze strictly to the moving city, her lips sealed tightly. While Julian glanced through newspapers, catching up on recent happenings.

It wasn’t until Julian finished reading, that a conversation started up.

"The young Grayson seems to care a good deal about you, don’t you think?" he asked, folding the newspaper.

Brooke shook her head, "Can we not talk about that?"

"I apologize for prying into your personal life, that was insensitive of me." He responded.

Brooke turned to his side, "I don’t think I’ve thanked you properly yet, for saving me from prison."

"I think after hearing everything Cassie has done to you, it’s the least I could help with. And from the report I was given, you were helping a sick person get medical attention." He pointed out.

At the mention of Gilbert, she let out a prolonged sigh, "Do you think I was wrong? Was it really my fault that I got arrested?"

"I don’t know." He answered truthfully.

Brooke pinched her temples and lowered her head, was she truly in the wrong?

"But Brooke, I know one thing for certain, helping someone can never be a bad thing. So even though I don’t understand the specifics of what’s happening between you two, I can be sure that you being there at that time to help that person wasn’t a bad thing." He said, his words causing her to lift her chin, her eyes watery.

A small smile played on Julian’s lips, "I’m sure young Grayson will understand if you explain yourself properly and your motives to him." He inched closer, "I don’t need my spectacles to see he’s completely whipped for you."

Brooke tucked her hands in-between her thighs, "It’s just... when he told me I’m the only person he trusts, it scared me so much." Sweat trickled down the back of her neck.

"I try to smile when I’m with him and make him happy, but I can’t stand being his last hope in humanity. How could I be the last person he trusts? When I can’t even trust myself?" her voice cracked, as her tears dampened the fabric over her lap.

"I wanted to try and reconcile them, so he would have someone by his side again, someone who wasn’t me that he could trust. The pressure of Thane’s expectations weighing on my shoulders was suffocating. How could he trust me? I’m impulsive, I don’t think things true, I’m bound to break that trust beyond repair sooner or later. What if...what if he loses all faith in life because of me?" she gasped and covered her mouth, her stomach churning from the thought.

Silently, Julian listened to her, until they arrived at his mansion, where he noticed his sister’s car was parked outside.

"Brooke," he gently called out to her, he rested his hand on hers and gave it a tight squeeze. "Right now, you’ll have to bury those thoughts and focus on the decision you made yourself. If you still want to face them, then wipe those tears and step out of this car."

Brooke raised her head, stunned at his advise, "Is that okay? Burying my fears?"

Julian took his hand off, "I used to be like you, and I got played for a fool by Serena. If people like us don’t steel up and cover our insecurities, we’ll always be on the losing end." He told her, adjusting his collar.

"So wipe those tears, and be ready to face the people who made your life a living hell." He firmly said, then opened the car’s door...
