Chapter 450: 19. The Entrance of the Wutong Tree (Two-in-One, Monthly Ticket Additional Update)
"Whom do you truly work for, Nali? I don’t believe you’re really a pirate... at least not a pirate from the Sardinian Female Country. The men on ships from the Sardinian Female Country are nothing but delicate, spoiled lovers."
After Valentina agreed to Fisher’s request, the tall Nali gentleman leaped down from the tree, landing beside her.
Valentina gave him a glance, her wheelchair slightly turning so that her body was directly facing Fisher.
Her wheelchair was entirely composed of intricate machinery, with gears continuously twisting within sight between its frame and structure, adorned with decorative Northern Realm blue crystal stones, making the wheelchair both functional and elegant, undoubtedly of great value.
"Pirate doesn’t quite fit the bill; I have already told you, I am a scholar interested in demi-humans, and of course, research on the Phoenix Species falls within my area of study as well. What, don’t I look the part?"
"Not really."
Valentina still tended to believe Fisher was lying, but since he could tell such an obvious lie, it also implied that he wasn’t afraid of her suspicions. Even if she was wary, it would not affect his achieving his goals.
From this perspective, if this Nali man mingling on a Sardinian pirate ship had spun a flawless story, that indeed should be more suspicious.
"If that’s the case, there’s a Schwali Scholar named Balzac in your team who also studies the history of the Northern Subhumans. Why don’t you find him strange?"
"He studies the history of the Northern Realm, not the history of the Northern Subhumans. Phoenix Species in the lore of the Northern Realm history is an inevitable topic."
"Then consider me a scholar interested in the history of the Northern Realm as well."
Fisher didn’t care how Valentina viewed him. He guessed that this noble lady from the Turand Family who sought the Wutong Tree of the Phoenix Species surely had her own dark secrets, but as long as she needed to hire others to assist her, Fisher’s actions didn’t conflict with hers.
Watching Fisher walking behind Valentina’s wheelchair toward the beach, Celti and Heidlin, who previously hadn’t encountered Fisher, were sizing him up. The steam man Helldor exhaled a puff of steam without speaking, and Balzac clicked his tongue lightly, but also didn’t say anything else.
"Then proceed as we agreed, reveal the secrets of the scroll, and I will provide the compensation you need. For any necessities, ask Helldor and Balzac for help; they will assist you."
Fisher didn’t pay much attention to their gazes, instead taking a closer look at Helldor himself.
Only now, as he got closer, did Fisher realize that this man was entirely made up of steam machinery. In other words, there wasn’t a single part of human flesh on him, which led him to wonder whether the person in front of him was a human or some other sort of creation.
Could it be that the steam technology of other nations had advanced so much that they could create a sentient steam machinery being?
*Hiss...* "Hello."
"Hello."
Fisher responded, then without ceremony, sat in front of the golden box, quickly getting into the task, carefully examining the surface of the box.
*Hiss...* "The surroundings of the Ice Scroll emit a curse-like magic fluctuation, and this gold box, being an ’Anti-Magic Gold Box,’ has the ability to suppress the magic-induced World Resonance within it, effectively restraining it. However, once it leaves this island, the strength of the fluctuation will increase significantly, causing the curse to leak."
*Hiss...* "Originally, our plan was to take it back to the Northern Realm and use another, more powerful Space Relic to open the scroll but that relic is too large to move, so now we can only try to open and read the scroll here on the island."
As Fisher was examining the golden box, Helldor was explaining the current situation at the same time. However, Fisher already knew roughly about it; otherwise, he wouldn’t have thought of a solution while thinking about the new rank system up in the tree.
"I have a specific idea we could try."
Fisher’s black eyes fixated on the golden box, his hands gently caressing it, gauging its size, then he said,
"The power of the curse is very similar to magic-induced World Resonance, which means, we just need to construct a magic that uses reverse logic to distort its original resonance, which would nullify the curse attached to it."
*Hiss...* "Are you saying that you want to design a completely new magic specifically to suppress its curse effect?"
Upon hearing Fisher’s words, Helldor’s steam-tainted voice wavered significantly, evidently startled by Fisher’s statement.
As mentioned before, designing magic is a highly dangerous process; it demands extreme sensitivity to World Resonance. Any misstep in the design phase could likely lead to being consumed by backlash, turning one into a desiccated corpse.
Most mages only aim to carve existing Magic Emblems; even comprehending existing magic completely is extremely challenging.
