Chapter 444: 17. The Secret of Rank (Two in One)
"Zzz... The surface of the scroll is afflicted with a magical curse, which is very similar to the principles of magic. I can feel the fluctuations of the World Resonance."
On the sandy beach of the island, the steam-spewing Mage Helldor looked at the golden box in front of him, roughly determining the type of curse within it, and came to a conclusion very similar to Fisher’s.
However, he clearly wasn’t aware that the World Resonance caused by magic was related to the Spirit Realm, nor did he have the spiritual vision enhanced by the Soul Completion Manual like Fisher, so he couldn’t see the ethereal eyeballs scattered around the golden box like a galaxy.
"Are you saying that this thing was used by the Phoenix Species, not a curse of fate?"
Balzac and Helldor were the main scholars of the scroll, besides which Valentina had also hired a logistician and a Mechanic, besides them and the bodyguard Philis.
"Hey, Helldor, I brought your arm; hurry over and take that feathery one apart!"
At this moment, a petite, green-haired little girl, wearing the iconic black robe of Kado but without the ornate decorations and friendly expression of other devout followers of the Mother Goddess, spoke to Helldor.
Her expression was slightly impatient, a cherry-like mouth holding a malt candy lollipop, and with a mechanical expansion backpack much larger than her body strapped to her back, she expertly squatted on the ground and screwed on a new arm while speaking.
"Zzz... Thanks, Celti."
Named Celti, the Mechanic, with the lollipop in her mouth, took the feathery arm that Helldor had disassembled and poked here and there, truly at a loss as to how feathers could grow from this inorganic machinery.
"Ha, it’s quite fascinating, I should collect this... a feathery mechanical arm."
"There’s no more room for more stuff on board, Celti."
At this moment, standing behind Valentina’s wheelchair was a big sister with a kind smile, saying this to the Mechanic.
Her generous nature was reminiscent of the nun who taught Fisher during his childhood at the Church School; she seemed to have just come off the ship, wearing a white dress in the style of the Northern Realm with a symbol similar to the Five-pointed Snowflake on Valentina’s hat on the chest, representing the Turand Family.
She was holding a plate of freshly baked butter cookies, her gentle gaze sweeping around, asking everyone,
"Would anyone like some dessert? Miss, Celti, Balzac, and Helldor...oh, sorry, I forgot you cannot eat. Hey, where is Philis?"
While looking at Helldor, whose body was entirely composed of steam machinery, she shyly touched her own cheek, her smile tinged with a trace of an apology.
"Heh, that gold-digger doesn’t understand a thing, probably went off to dig for treasure somewhere, the entire beach is full of it. I think she’d rather die here."
"Ah, is that so... Earlier when I was cleaning Philis’ room, I found her bedding neatly filled with Gold Coins, there won’t even be space to bring more back to her room on the ship."
On the beach, two more people from Valentina’s team appeared; it seemed Valentina had decided it was time to open the scroll and read its contents on the island.
At this moment, sitting among the bushes, Fisher, holding a Pahetz binoculars, stroked his chin, taking in the whole scene.
Ossie had flown back temporarily to the Iceberg Queen to bring back that large check and check how long it would take to fix the steam engine; Pahetz had taken the crew to look for food on the island; Alagina was injured and resting for a while, and Fisher, slacking, came over to check the situation there.
He wanted to know the contents recorded in the scroll; if necessary, he could offer a little help to Valentina’s team, but it seemed not much needed right now.
However, they still had some time to go from breaking the curse to opening the scroll; the Iceberg Queen also couldn’t leave just yet, so Fisher still had a chance and was in no hurry.
Further down the beach where Valentina was, you could now see small pits that had appeared at some point on the sand.
Looking downward along those pits, the Lion-man Philis was hiding in a sand pit, her eyes gleaming as she pawed at the beach; as she worked rapidly, a golden vase gradually appeared in front of her, half-covered by the sand.
Her eyes lit up, her nose twitched slightly; but she suddenly caught a foreign scent, turning her head only to find, unexpectedly, a fat, smiling face right beside her, startling her into subconsciously hugging the gold vase she had just unearthed.
"Whoa! What are you doing? Dead pirate, this treasure is mine, you can’t take it!"
Behind Pahetz, with two crewmen, looked at her hugging the vase and shook their heads, pointing at the treasure Philis had dug up behind her and spoke,
"This treasure you dug up before is certainly yours, but the ones after that might not be. We have three people here, and you only have one, plus we have tools while you only have bare hands, you simply can’t dig as fast as us... Come on, give her a hard time."
