Chapter 442: 16. Trade_3
"I understand," she said. "You hand over the scroll, we get paid, and we’re even."
Valentina, upon hearing this, did not hesitate to pass the black check she had given to Fisher to Helldor by her side. She then rubbed a ring on her fair finger, the only one among all her rings that did not emit Magic Radiance. It was a mere ornament, and her personal possession.
"Here are five million Northern Realm silver coins. It’s bearer form, any bank in the Northern Realm can cash it. I recall there is such a place in the pirate port; you should be familiar with it."
Pahetz looked at the young lady in surprise upon hearing this. The term "pirate port" was actually a secret to those who were not pirates, much like Fisher, who wouldn’t have known about it if Ah hadn’t told him. Yet this girl seemed very familiar with the place?
"Sssss..."
Helldor, holding the check and hissing steam, walked towards Alagina. He first placed the check in her hands, then took a step back before reaching out, indicating for her to place the golden box in his hands.
Alagina handed over the box, and then he dragged it back behind Valentina, seizing again the wheelchair beneath her with his other hand.
"Sssss... Philis, let’s go."
It was only then that everyone noticed Philis squatting by the edge of the nearby beach, fiddling with something. Her light clothing and the tail behind her, long and fine like a lion’s with a ring of dark brown fur on the tip, swayed and swept fan-shaped outlines on the sand like windshield wipers.
"Ah? Coming, coming..."
As she stood up in a flurry, people noticed she was tightly clutching a pile of gold and ornaments. As she got up, her other hand couldn’t help but pick up an ancient copper pot from the sand. Seeing nowhere to put it, she placed the pot right on her chest, attempting to carry more in this way.
"You silly Lion-man, what are you doing?!" Balzac, dressed in red, said as Philis, hugging a trove of treasures, excitedly jogged toward the group. In the presence of so many, the shame associated with her antics peaked in an instant.
Although he had long known that this Lion-man was a hopeless treasure hoarder, it was the first time she’d embarrassed him in front of so many others.
"Damn it, the boss gives you a month’s salary, and you could manage plenty of treasures with that. Why pick up these trifles, things of the dead? You’re utterly shameless!"
"What do you mean, Balzac? Don’t you know what ’the more, the merrier’ means? Plus, it’s not yours, so back off, you stingy one!"
Philis, clutching her pile of treasure, ran back from the beach. Pahetz and Ossie looked over to find more concealed items on the island’s beaches and in the bushes, likely belongings taken from the ship by the crew.
Valentina massaged her temples with a pained expression and coldly told her subordinates,
"Enough, stop bickering. Let’s go back."
Seeing the boss speak up, both Balzac and Philis ceased their noise, though Balzac cast a disdainful glance at Philis. She was still busy counting how much treasure she had brought back, so she paid him no attention.
Alagina didn’t even look at the black check in her hand. She simply handed it over to Pahetz and then walked over to Fisher, saying,
"Let’s go back."
"Mhm."
Pahetz blew on the black check in his hands and scrutinized it under sunlight. Only after seeing a faint golden seal emerge did he finally tuck it away with relief.
But Fisher didn’t leave; instead, he continued to stare at Helldor who was leaving with the golden box.
Since a moment ago, he had been harboring a guess but wasn’t entirely certain.
Remember when he left Alagina’s side to chase after Philis? The guards had said that he must either hand the scroll to the true Phoenix or destroy it. So, could it be that only the true Phoenix Species could take this item off the island?
Just as Alagina noticed Fisher still lingering, in the distance within Fisher’s view, a strange pulsing light suddenly illuminated around the golden box in the steam machinery man’s hands, starting to warp the Magic Seal he had left behind.
At this sight, Fisher’s complexion changed, and he urgently yelled to Valentina and her group,
"Wait! Put that box down! Throw it back onto the island!"
Click, click...
As Fisher’s voice rang out, a series of grey feathers oddly began to sprout on Helldor’s wholly steam machinery arm. The feathers utterly shattered the Magic Emblem engraved on his arm, and within an instant, his mechanical arm became covered in fuzz.
Both parties were startled by this unexpected turn. Ossie moved to stand in front of Alagina, guarding the injured Ah, while Alagina herself protected Fisher behind her.
