Chapter 423: 7. Hunting Sea Ghosts_3
The sea ghost ahead suddenly suffered a coordinated barrage of fire, already weakened and bleeding excessively, it looked as if it was about to die right there.
"Ooh..."
The next moment, it had no energy even to dive back into the sea floor, and after a miserable cry, it uncontrollably started floating to the surface, revealing large patches of skin stained with blood.
"We did it! We did it!"
Pahetz, who had raised his binoculars to survey the results, immediately shouted with joy upon seeing this scene, his chubby cheeks moistened by seawater shaking with excitement.
The massive sea ghost was now completely motionless on the surface of the water, some of its muscles still twitching irregularly, but due to excessive blood loss, its skin seemed to have faded to a pale white.
If you turned around now, you would see the vast sea appeared as if it had been streaked with a crimson brushstroke.
The Iceberg Queen’s engine slowed, and under the crew’s cheering, it slowly approached the floating corpse of the sea ghost.
"Wait, let me see if it’s dead. Hand me the gun..."
Pahetz jumped down from the bow and moved beside Fisher, that was the closest point to the sea ghost below.
Worried that the monster faked its own death and might spring a surprise, she had to make sure it was truly dead.
She took the musket handed to her by a crew member nearby, aimed at the sea ghost’s body, and fired. Seeing it bear another wound yet remaining still, she finally confirmed it was thoroughly dead.
"It’s dead! It’s dead! Quick, go down and pull out the spearhead, let’s carve up the valuable parts and leave the rest here!"
Though the Ice-breaking Spear of the Northern Realm ships was very effective, it also had a downside—often, it required crew members to manually retrieve it because the steam engine couldn’t pull it back in, it usually got stuck pretty badly.
The most valuable parts on the sea ghost were few, and of course, there was no need to drag its entire corpse away. Well, nobody had tried its meat, so it probably wasn’t tasty, Pahetz didn’t know either.
"Yay!"
"Charge!"
Hearing Pahetz’s order, some crew members started preparing to descend with ropes tied around them, while many more leaped directly from the deck into the sea and swam under the enormous corpse.
"Oh, how savage. Thank goodness sea ghosts only appear once in a decade or so; otherwise, these rough North Realm people would have probably wiped them out..."
Emhardt floated beside Fisher, who was observing the scene, and commented thus.
Fisher made no comments. After seeing the sea ghost was dead, he had contentedly shifted his gaze away, ready to leave without watching them divide the spoils.
But just then, for some reason, Fisher suddenly felt a chill run through him, a strange intuition surged in his heart, suggesting that some danger was approaching.
He instinctively looked back but saw no one noticing anything unusual, so he walked back to the ship’s side, watching those crew members who had clambered onto the sea ghost’s body shouting, "One, two, three, pull the spear!"
Could he have been mistaken?
Fisher leaned on the railing, carefully watching the water below. But in the next second, within the blood-covered water surface, a huge shadow was gradually emerging, as if something from the sea floor was rapidly approaching.
