Chapter 382: 153. Demon’s Gate (Two-in-One)_4
Old Jack had thought about sending the three still young Mouse Ladies back to South Continent, but they were still too young to take care of themselves. Nonetheless, it was certainly better than waiting in the basement of Saint Nali.
At this point in the conversation, Fisher glanced outside and knew there was no time left for idle talk.
"Alright, then. If there’s anything you want to take, hurry it up. We don’t have much time."
The three Mouse Ladies hugged Old Jack, peering out at Moli with Fisher, a clean Rat peeping out from atop one little girl’s head, startling Moli.
"There’s nothing much to take, just the guns, bullets, some money, and these old bones of mine..."
Old Jack, carrying his double-barreled shotgun, went behind the bar and pulled out several stacks of Naliou that he had saved, handing them over to the three little girls to keep safe. Then he walked out of the shop, closed the near-falling wooden door, lit a cigarette, and was ready, no different from when he had arrived in Saint Nali with nothing.
He had arrived clean and would leave clean... oh, apart from gaining three lovely granddaughters, that is.
Fisher also wanted to leave as effortlessly as Old Jack, but of course, that was unrealistic. In his rental house was the kind Lady Martha, and the many years of work manuscripts he had left behind...
But the situation demanded that he leave.
With that thought, he no longer hesitated, taking Old Jack and Moli with him deeper into Snake Head Street.
"Emhardt, which way should we go?"
The Book Knight nestled in Fisher’s arms was in a terrible mood from being soaked, but had to fly out and speak due to the deal with Fisher, which led the Mouse Ladies lying on Old Jack’s back to try and touch him.
"Enough, you three little brats, don’t touch me... The book only says to go to the deepest reachable part, but I don’t know the specifics. We’ll have to check it out on site.
"I’ve heard from the gangsters that many people have come up from beneath Soul Cliff..."
Old Jack had spent a long time on Snake Head Street and, of course, knew that people often emerge from its depths. As they ran, he guided Fisher.
During their run, the cobblestone street underfoot slowly changed, and the environment became darker and darker. They had passed by the gang that had taken root on the cliff before, but the Soul Cliff they were now heading toward was even deeper.
"Whoosh! Whoosh!"
And the closer they got to the back, the more evident the sound of water falling in the depths became. There were Illumination Stones left by people who had been there before, revealing a dead end leading deep down from the dark rock walls.
"It should be right here."
Fisher surveyed the path ahead and saw that it seemed to be enveloped by a strange water vapor. The Illumination ended abruptly here, exposing the pitch-black path even more profoundly.
Old Jack held his gun and unconsciously swallowed, seeming somewhat uncertain.
But Fisher had no way back. The soldiers must have entered Snake Head Street, and if he didn’t leave now, he would be caught by Elizabeth.
He led the way forward, and the moment he stepped onto that path, a weird chill instantly hit them. Moli and Old Jack, along with the three Mouse Ladies who followed onto the road, had a distinct reaction, with Old Jack and the ladies starting to shiver.
"It feels a bit... off."
In total darkness, they slowly moved forward. Old Jack took a deep breath, about to speak, when he suddenly heard a familiar voice calling him from behind.
"Dad! Dad! I’m here!"
He paused for a moment, holding his fire gun as he turned around, only to see his son, sporting glasses and dressed in his Royal College graduation gown, looking at him from a distance. Old Jack stood there, transfixed, but as he took a step forward, his foot had already stepped off the path. The sudden sense of weightlessness sent a chill up his spine and he hastily retreated a step or two with the Mouse Lady in his arms.
Looking down, he saw the three Mouse Ladies in his arms dazed, continuously muttering something,
"Candy... so much candy..."
"Fisher! Something’s not right here!"
Fisher suddenly turned around, only to see Moli seeming to have seen something in the darkness. She extended her hand toward a dark abyss, a crystal-clear teardrop falling from the corner of her eye down her cheek,
"Auntie..."
Fisher quickly reached out to pull Moli behind him, dragging her back toward the path,
"Moli! That’s a cliff!"
Both Old Jack and Fisher, who had come to their senses, huddled at the edge of the cliff. Fortunately, the strange conditions here weren’t too severe, but the further forward they walked, the more bizarre the temptations became. Old Jack even saw two naked women in the distance, waving at him invitingly.
"Hehe..."
"Come play, uncle."
And Moli saw a mountain of food in the distance. She swallowed, but still shook her head, casting the thought from her mind.
Walking in front, Fisher remained relatively calm, but it wasn’t long before the darkness and mist slowly dissipated, revealing the ominously deep abyss ahead. The distant sound of water grew louder as they continued, and when the mist cleared, Fisher suddenly realized they were standing on a small island, not very spacious.
He frowned and looked around, noticing that somehow they had gone from Snake Head Street above to this place. The island was entirely encircled by rapidly running water. The nine rivers of Nali converged here with ferocious momentum, standing here gave one the sensation of being on the verge of being swallowed whole.
They had gone from the cliffside path, without warning, to the bottom of the estuary entrance, hundreds of meters below in height difference...
Turning his head, Fisher saw at the front of the island, a giant stone Gate standing quietly, seemingly made out of Obsidian material. The Gate had only the shape of a door, covered with densely packed symbols from bottom to top. Each symbol was distinct and unique, and upon closer inspection, there were seventy-two seals in total.
On the left and right sides of the Gate frame, two beautiful girls who looked strikingly similar sat quietly.
The two girls wore skimpy outfits, with tails similar yet much shorter than Elliog’s, tracing a semicircle beside them.
Their hair, one black and one white, with a pair of curved horns resembling those of antelopes sprouting on either side. The horns, though short, in combination with their peaceful sleeping visages, were particularly seductive.
They were two Demons!
"My God, I said it; near Saint Nali there’s a Gate leading to the Abyss! It’s just this Gate has been closed for too long, but who could have thought that there would still be two demons who hadn’t left the land to return to the Abyss..."
Old Jack didn’t find the two demons unfamiliar because he had seen Elliog.
Just as Sir Book spoke, the noise, like igniting a match, instantly set alight the tails of the two demons before them. Two balls of flame, like fireballs, lit up amidst the darkness as they, in turn, opened their fiery, flame-like eyes.
