Chapter 343: 141. King’s Magnanimity (Two in One, Alliance Leader Extra)

The sky had just brightened slightly, yet the Golden Palace at the center of Saint Nali City was brightly lit, its gold patterns adorned the walls, branding the edifice symbolizing the dignity of the Gedelin Imperial Family with nobility and sanctity.

The Golden Palace was divided into two parts, front and rear. Following the corridor and courtyards of the rear section, a separate building rose from behind the rear pool of the Golden Palace; on the outer side of the building, a golden Gedelin Triple Ring quietly watched over the Empire.

This was the bedroom of Gedelin IX, built specially for his healing after he fell ill.

Inside the building, layer upon layer of Magic Veil hanging from the sky twinkled with pure green light, all engraved with Healing Magic by the Nali Mages hired at great expense for the aging Gedelin IX.

Only within this bedroom, enveloped by magic, could the increasingly frail body of Gedelin IX barely be maintained.

Even so, death was still inevitably drawing closer, and his lucid moments were increasingly rare; now, he couldn’t even leave his bed.

The rumors in Saint Nali about the impending end of Gedelin IX were not unfounded; Gedelin IX himself was well aware of this.

On this particular morning, the door of this bedroom was gently pushed open, and a man in a white robe with a rather pale face entered the bedroom.

The man was somewhat thin, looking as if he hadn’t rested well lately, with a faint dark circle under each eye. His expression was listless, though his gaze intensely pierced through the shimmering veils, focusing on the bed, or rather, the person on the bed.

That was Lunxis, the second prince of Gedelin IX.

He had been confined here by his older brother for two days now, and since returning, he hadn’t closed his eyes once.

Behind the bed hung a huge oil painting that depicted a young Gedelin IX holding the Golden Scepter, standing next to a lady of gentle appearance, plain yet spirited.

She was Nela, the birth mother of Dexter, Lunxis, and Elizabeth, and the first queen of Gedelin IX. She was most favored by Gedelin IX, yet she had passed away early, a few years after giving birth to Lunxis.

"Father... did you call me?"

Behind the bed, from behind the veils, emerged an old man in a light white nightgown, his hair and beard all white, his breath faint. His expression was serene, his vitality nearly extinguished, but his features still carried an undeniable authority.

Hearing Lunxis’s words, Gedelin IX slowly turned his head to look at him, pausing a second before waving his hand,

"Come here, Lunxis."

"Yes."

Unlike the maids who walked around the veil imbued with Healing Magic, Lunxis lifted it directly and walked straight towards Gedelin IX’s bed.

Only when he came closer did Lunxis suddenly notice that today, his father the King looked much better, both in color and spirit.

And on his bed right now, there lay a sword box, half-open. From this partially open box, Lunxis’s eyes were suddenly struck by a dazzling golden light; feeling the pain, he hurriedly withdrew his gaze and looked down at the floor,

"Father, did you summon me for something?"

Gedelin IX gazed directly at Prince Lunxis, who was bowed before him, his aged palm extending from the bedding, slowly pushing the sword box downward; as the box opened further, a strangely shaped relic made of twisted gold material emerged into the air.

It was a long sword composed of two intertwined golden substances, the hilt and blade seemed as one, the edges of the blade as thin and sharp as cicada’s wings.

It had no corresponding sheath; the fragile wooden box was the only restraint for the relic.

Yet the moment it appeared, Lunxis, still bowing, felt a wave of heat rush towards his face, as if it intended to completely scorch his whiskers and skin. A bead of sweat, whether from fear or heat, quietly fell along his cheek until it reached the ground.

"The Sword of Gedelin, the heirloom of the Gedelin Family passed down through generations, a symbol of kingship, every King holds the duty to pass it intact to the next..."

Hearing his father’s words, Lunxis’s throat moved for a moment. He thought his father was about to pass the Sword of the King to him; greed flashed in his eyes as he lightly lifted his head to look at the relic.

But the next second, the golden light of the sword exploded once again, blinding him like looking directly at the sun. Lunxis’s vision turned white, followed by intense pain,

"Ah!!"

Tears of needle-like pain forced Lunxis to painfully cover his eyes, bowing down to half-kneel on the ground, feeling an intense burning around his eye sockets.

And Gedelin IX, sitting on the bed, simply held the Sword of Gedelin, watching the now discomposed Prince Lunxis, his aged face revealing a hint of expected disappointment.
