Chapter 289: 120. Interlude

In the following days, the environment in Klein Mountain was anything but quiet, mostly due to the training progress of the adorable Whale-man Species, which was much faster than Xiayat and Fisher had anticipated.

Xiayat had said something to Moli during training that day, but when Fisher later asked her about it, she always avoided eye contact, frantically suggesting she hadn’t said anything outrageous, and that it was all to help Moli master the combat training better.

That’s what she claimed, but whenever Fisher looked at her suspiciously, she would always find an excuse to run off to do something else, avoiding a direct answer.

Either she would be off to handle the evening meal or to wash her own clothes and hunting tools. If it weren’t for Moli’s condition seeming normal, Fisher would really suspect she was up to no good.

However, the training during this period did have its effects, much more effective than when Fisher trained Moli.

Since the day she created a huge water column in the river, she seemed to have grasped the knack for fighting; whether hunting or engaging in actual combat training with Fisher, she no longer fell into her previous cursed state, still going all-out like a humanoid steam engine.

But this also made Fisher curious—was Moli exceptionally strong, or were all Whale-man Species this impressive?

When Fisher asked Moli about it, she couldn’t provide a clear answer either.

After all, ordinary Whale-men generally spent their entire lives in the Sea Trench, either sleeping or lazily waiting for other Ocean Subhumans to drop fish for them to eat. Moli hadn’t really witnessed any physical confrontations, so she wasn’t very clear about her own capabilities.

All she knew was that her mother was very impressive, not only greatly admired by Lord Ramasitia but also highly respected by other Whale-men, all of whom obeyed her mother’s words.

Moli’s mother had also told her that the curse within her was immense, which was why her Companion Sea Beast was several times larger than those of other Whale-mens.

Fisher guessed that this might be what set Moli apart, and thus, he could roughly conclude that the Moli before him was indeed the "Mysterious Sea Child" mentioned in the Demi-human Girls Completion Manual’s Doomsday Prophecy.

But speaking of doomsday...

It was evening, and in the camp Fisher had set up in Klein Mountain, he sat in front of the campfire looking at Moli beside him, chewing on a hunk of fatty meat. Her naive and innocent nature was quite different from Rafa El’s fiery disposition and she held no deep grudge against humans, given that humans hadn’t really discovered Ocean Subhumans yet...

"Wow, these past few days have been amazing. It’s definitely better being outdoors. Staying in that shabby house was just too suffocating, especially for a Centaur who loves to run—it’s really not friendly."

Xiayat, sitting next to him bending his horse legs, also stretched a bit, relaxing.

She really had been a big help to Fisher these days. If it weren’t for her, Fisher couldn’t have possibly advanced Moli’s training so quickly. And it wasn’t just Moli, Fisher also learned quite a few useful combat techniques and concepts by observing.

Fisher didn’t put on airs, and asked Xiayat whenever he had questions. After she answered, Fisher would go back to practicing the combat methods left behind by Elliog, and over a few days, Fisher really did master a lot of Elliott’s fighting techniques.

Thinking about this, Fisher looked at Xiayat beside him, who was looking up at the starry sky with a complex expression, and started speaking,

"Human society isn’t kind to the demi-humans, at least not for now. Even if you come to the Western Continent, you won’t be able to change much, and believing in the New Party is a mistake..."

After hearing this, Xiayat puffed her cheeks, a bit helplessly, and punched Fisher lightly. When he looked at her calmly, Xiayat snorted somewhat haughtily,

"Don’t just trivialize my efforts like that. I made a big decision to come all this way from the South Continent..."

Fisher smiled silently, threw another stick into the fire before him, and as the flames grew stronger, he continued,

"I’m sorry, my mistake... It was just a suggestion. If you don’t feel comfortable here, you can contact me anytime, and I’ll figure out a way to get you back to the South Continent."

A smile appeared on Xiayat’s face. Just as she turned to look at Fisher, she caught sight of Moli, who was still gnawing on the meat but keeping her eyes on her.

Remembering the strength she had displayed when she shot a water column several meters high, Xiayat hesitated for a moment and decided not to make any risky moves.

She feared Moli might misinterpret her smile and banter with Fisher as flirtation, and then maybe she would sneak up to her while sleeping and dispose of her by throwing her into the river?

God, that would be terrifying!

Thinking this, Xiayat coughed softly, interrupting her original intention to tease Fisher.
