Chapter 118 - 38. Morning Renie
Chapter 118: 38. Morning Renie
Mr. Fisher’s consciousness seemed to sink into a murky dream like a quagmire. In the hazy slumber, he felt his consciousness continuously falling, plunging into that fragrant, mire-like turbidity.
But that falling wasn’t unobstructed like freefalling, it was more like countless unclear forces coming from all directions, madly pulling at your body.
In the darkness, numerous eyes watched Mr. Fisher’s frail soul descend.
In this extreme loneliness and panic of the unknown, Mr. Fisher struggled as if drowning, but his body could no longer break free, and he exhausted all his strength just to open his eyes in that murky dream.
As he tried to escape from the darkness, in the dreamscape before him, a huge, indifferent moon hung coldly in the night sky, watching over him like an unmerciful God.
That was, the bright and exceedingly cold moon.
An indescribable pressure came down with the pale moonlight, the intense loneliness and oppression quickly waking Mr. Fisher from his slumber.
When he truly opened his eyes in reality, what he saw was Renie, highlighted by her sleeping position, her fairness and softness prominent. She was very close to him, breathing softly with closed eyes, her sleeping face alone outlined the meaning of beauty.
He was still in his own bed, surrounded by Renie’s delicate fragrance, next to the girl’s quilt.
Mr. Fisher sighed, then he realized that Renie, who had her back to him last night, had at some point turned over, her hands excessively entwining him, allowing Mr. Fisher’s face to rest against her body, the pleasant scent almost suffocating him.
He tried to move, but found her legs were also resting on him, as if she had imprisoned him.
No wonder he had that suffocating dream, it turned out that Renie’s sleeping position was just too poor, winding up entangled in him without him knowing it.
It was early morning, the chirping larks outside brought vitality to this world that had long been awake.
Mr. Fisher felt awkwardly that he needed to back away a bit; the pendulum in the bedroom swung, and the time was already just past eight. He had a class at ten-thirty in the morning, and any more delay would make him late.
Just as he was about to get up, he caught a glimpse, from the corner of his eye, of Renie’s peaceful sleeping face which unexpectedly blushed.
Wait, this girl...
Could it be that Renie had actually been awake all along? She was pretending to be asleep, then pretending to inadvertently entwine herself with Mr. Fisher in her sleep.
She wanted to see Mr. Fisher’s actual reaction to her teasing him in her dreams, hence such a prank, but didn’t expect to reveal such an obvious flaw?
Mr. Fisher’s expression cooled down, and he tentatively spoke,
"Renie?"
"...."
Renie didn’t move an inch, seemingly indeed not awake, but Mr. Fisher felt her body getting stiffer, even her calm expression starting to falter.
Mr. Fisher’s gaze darkened for a second, then suddenly he reached out and grabbed her shoulder, overly invading her space. At that instant, the blushing on Renie’s face deepened several shades as she hurriedly opened her eyes, blinking as she looked at Mr. Fisher, evidently unable to pretend any longer.
The atmosphere quieted for a second, perhaps Mr. Fisher’s deathly gaze was too terrifying, forcing her to finally break into a cute smile, and she even made a scissor gesture toward Mr. Fisher with her left hand, which was wrapped in a bandage, making her seem a bit clumsy.
"Hey, I just woke up too, good morning."
"...Do you think I’d believe that lie?"
"In fact, I am Dr. Renie, checking to see if your body is healthy. Mr. Fisher, congratulations, your body is doing great."
Renie always loved to tease, appearing enticing yet afraid you would actually devour her, so when you really tried to act, she would virtually hide.
She was quite an annoying witch.
Annoyed by her, Mr. Fisher decided to scare the witch before him. The next moment he firmly held down Renie’s hands, restricting her range of movement, then suddenly leaned down as if to claim something.
As Mr. Fisher had anticipated, her expression showed some panic, her actual ability to fight obviously nowhere near as strong as her usual tough talk.
As he pressed on, Mr. Fisher thought she would virtualize and disappear any second, escaping as she had done countless times before.
But as Mr. Fisher drew closer, her face, as beautiful as an older sister’s, slowly tinted a pale pink, the slanting sunlight from the outside making her lips appear so clear and delectable.
Renie’s body was soft, firmly grasped in Mr. Fisher’s hands.
She seemed to have forgotten to run, her purple pupils trembling slightly as she opened her mouth, looking at Mr. Fisher who displayed surprise as well, her expression somewhat tense,
"Mr. Fishe...uh..."
But just after a brief moment of distraction, Mr. Fisher had already lowered his head and captured her, the deep and soft blossom spread slowly at the bottom of his heart, granting Mr. Fisher a taste of one of the rarest beauties in this world.
Without any opportunity for explanation, the constantly fleeing witch was finally caught firmly by Mr. Fisher.
Holding her, the motion slowly turned into fingers interlocking, but her left hand was injured, so he could only hold one of her hands.
It was some time later that Mr. Fisher rather reluctantly let her go.
Renie still had her mouth open, looking utterly shocked. Her gaze dumbly fixed upwards, uncertain if she was looking at the ceiling or at Fisher.
"Renie..."
"Ah..."
It seemed a few seconds had passed before she finally came to her senses after Fisher spoke.
Instinctively, she reached to touch her lips, but then retracted her hand as if feeling the lingering sensitive warmth on them. Thus, in Fisher’s view, her cheeks grew redder and redder.
"Are you okay? Your face..."
"...Fisher!"
After those words, Renie suddenly covered her face. Her figure started to blur, as she swiftly floated out of the bed and through Fisher’s bedroom door without turning back, possibly heading to the bathroom. Fisher was left alone in the room, Renie’s lingering fragrance filling up the space.
Fisher opened his mouth and then silently chuckled, getting out of the bed.
Who knows if her mind had crashed then, but she had forgotten to run away, only to get caught red-handed by Fisher.
It seems Renie isn’t very smart when she wakes up; he might have her in trouble in the future mornings.
After Fisher went to the restroom to sort himself out, he came out to find Renie, now neatly dressed, seated at the dining table eating a small cake baked by Martha. Seeing Fisher in his business attire, she bit into the food as if it were Fisher.
Ignoring her resentful energy, Fisher greeted Martha with a good morning.
Martha glanced at Renie and Fisher, examined the resentful look Renie gave Fisher, and suddenly felt it very likely something uncontrollable had happened between them last night, especially since a woman’s defenses are weakest when emotional.
Oh my God!
Could it be possible that in a few months, Renie would have a beautiful baby?
Martha blinked, growing more convinced by the thought. So, she quietly took away the ice water in front of Renie, having heard from other old wives that cold water wasn’t good for conceiving.
"Renie, a lady shouldn’t drink such cold water. Let me get you a warm one; just stay seated."
"?!"
Renie looked at Martha, clearly in the dark about what kind of thought process she had gone through.
When Fisher, now properly suited up, sat down at the dining table, Renie turned to look. Seeing his last suit, she grimaced. Knowing Fisher’s financial situation and frugality too well, she knew he wouldn’t buy a proper suit, so she offered,
"I brought you two sets of clothes from Kado, they’re in your wardrobe; remember to wash them."
"Thank you."
Fisher glanced at his clothes, indeed realizing he had no other suits to wear, appreciated that Renie remembered. He planned to invite her to see a play that evening and buy some gifts for her, considering he hadn’t gotten her a proper gift since returning from the South Continent.
"Heh, right, weren’t you talking about alleviating some financial pressure? I saw your paper got published, is there a lot of prize money?"
Fisher shook his head, picking up a thin slice of the cake,
"No real prize money, but I’ll be teaching at Saint Nali University for a while."
"Teaching, that’s great..."
Renie blinked, took the warm water Martha handed her, thanked her, and silently continued chewing on her cake, appearing docile.
This surprised Fisher a bit; perhaps the encounter earlier had her not quite herself yet. Normally, hearing he’d be teaching, she would definitely be up to no good.
But, this peacefulness wasn’t bad either.
"You rest here, I’ll probably be back in the afternoon, and take you out to the city then."
"Okay."
After finishing breakfast, Fisher said goodbye to Renie and Martha as he needed to rush to the university or he’d be late. Renie, placing hands in front of her, gently smiled and waved at Fisher. This gentle demeanor made Fisher glance suspiciously at her, wondering if that morning’s kiss had flipped some peculiar switch in her.
Fisher gave Renie one deep look, picked up his Handcane and hat, and left the lodging.
Inside the house, Renie’s gentle appearance slowly faded, her smile turning into the familiar mischievous grin. Silently watching Fisher’s retreating figure, she suddenly shouted to Martha in the room,
"Martha, I’m stepping out!"
With that simple declaration, her figure also began to blur and soon vanished within Fisher’s lodging, headed to an unmistakable destination,
that was Saint Nali University.
