Chapter 107: 30.Moli
"Ah, why didn’t you stop Mr. Fischer? I ran across two buildings!"
After Mr. Fischer had left, Milica, panting from her run across two buildings, looked at the empty podium and knew Mr. Fischer had already left. Just like during his own tutoring sessions, he looked forward to class ending more than the students, and he would never hold over.
Milica puffed out her cheeks, feeling somewhat disappointed for not having caught up with Mr. Fischer. Then she turned her head and saw Isabella, who was slumped over the desk and almost looked like a dried corpse. Moli, sitting next to her, was gently patting her back with a worried expression. Milica, puzzled, asked Moli,
"What’s wrong with her, Moli?"
Before Moli could respond, Isabella had already lifted her head, her eyes brimming with pitiful moisture,
"That professor is so strict, why does he start teaching right from the first class? I was already so sleepy, barely keeping my eyes open, and then I had to focus hard on his lecture!"
Milica gave an awkward smile, as if briefly revisiting the painful memories of her math classes long ago,
"Mr. Fischer is like a different person when he’s teaching; a bit strict, yes, but I assure you—you’ll learn a lot. Guarantees with my math-studying intellect! Our literature class today was quite fun though; Lady Lao Fang introduced her latest collection of poems and had us share our thoughts, which was quite interesting."
Lady Lao Fang, that poet?
Moli tilted her head, seemingly unaware of her, but Isabella knew of the poet’s reputation.
Her sister didn’t like her much, and often gave her average reviews, calling her "an opportunist catering to the unrealistic fantasies of ladies". Thus, Isabella’s initial impression of the professor wasn’t favorable.
However, she was quite popular in the school. When it was announced she would teach at Saint Nali University, many students were excited, much more so than when Mr. Fischer arrived. His arrival had excited the professors, but the students didn’t know much about him.
"Moli, you don’t have class at ten, right? Are you going swimming?"
Both Milica and Isabella had classes at ten o’clock. They were packing up, ready to head to the next classroom, when Milica turned to look at Moli, who was sitting still, knowing her roommate’s frequent swimming habit.
Upon hearing Milica’s question, Moli shyly nodded and said,
"Yeah, I am planning to swim for a bit..."
"I see, then see you this afternoon; we’re heading out."
"Yeah, goodbye."
Watching Milica and Isabella leave, Moli sat still and waved to their departing figures until they had been gone a while before slowly stopping her waving hand. She opened her mouth briefly, lowered her head to leave her books in the box under the building, and then headed in the direction of the swimming pool.
Saint Nali University has a special gym, and the swimming pool is there, at the foot of the mountain directly opposite the teachers’ office buildings, although it’s quite a distance away.
The young girl walked, habitually covering her chest and looking down because her ample development sometimes obstructed her view of her toes, so she used her hands to press down a bit, allowing her to see her legs.
She carefully watched each step she took while quietly making a subconscious "heave-ho" sound that corresponded with her footsteps.
However, in such a state of walking, she suddenly caught sight of a pair of black leather shoes approaching. She lifted her head and was suddenly startled to find Mr. Fischer, the professor from her recent class. A panic that a student naturally feels upon bumping into a teacher surged through her, rooting her legs to the spot, her hands flapping helplessly before settling by her sides.
"Mr... Mr. Fischer... hello..."
Moli initiated a greeting, her voice small and animal-like, only fully audible as Mr. Fischer drew nearer. He looked at the blushing girl in front of him, seemingly remembering that she was the student sitting in the front row who had brought all the recommended reading books.
He had just returned from the Centaur Xiayat and was planning to now meet the New Party member Trandell to prepare him for a visit to the Pink Hall. He had almost set his plan, only needing to play his card with Trandell, but on his way, he bumped into the student from his class.
It was at this moment that he inadvertently noticed her unusually developed figure, recalling that he had seen this young girl the first time he came to Saint Nali University to discuss matters with Principal Ken inside the teaching building.
"Hello, are you the student from my class? What’s your name?"
"Ah, yes... I... my name is Moli, first-year at the Magic Academy, and I’m just about to go swimming..."
Just asking her name had led her to nervously blurt out a whole bunch of information, including what she was about to do, to Mr. Fischer.
Mr. Fischer blinked slightly and then smiled, brushing past her shyness. He had other tasks to attend to, so he prepared to leave,
"Keep it up."
"Ah, okay...I will..."
Professor Fisher waved at her and started to leave. Moli only realized what was said and responded, but by then Professor Fisher had already walked away. She opened her mouth, looked back, and didn’t even know what she was saying—it was so embarrassing...
However, Moli watched Professor Fisher’s departing figure and suddenly felt that what Milica had said was true. Professor Fisher seemed like a completely different person when teaching and outside of classes. Or could it be that he behaves differently because he takes certain things very seriously?
Moli tapped her head, silently noting down the conversation, and then continued walking towards the swimming pool where she had planned to go.
At just past ten o’clock in the morning, there was nobody else in the swimming pool. The administrator had just started work and had gone for breakfast, knowing a student would come to swim. They had left a bunch of keys on the desk for Moli, which contained her swimming items.
Moli had several swimsuits and sometimes stored one here so she wouldn’t have to go back to her dorm to get one.
"Heave-ho, heave-ho..."
She muttered as she changed into her swimsuit. Then she stood in front of the changing room mirror to look at herself. This was the largest swimsuit available in the school, yet still, it felt tight at the chest. She clenched the fabric sealed with the giant beast imprint with her hand, which seemed to offer her some comfort.
The black-haired girl hadn’t brought goggles or anything like a swimming cap. The vast swimming pool rippled gently. Quietly, Moli squatted by the pool’s edge, and when her hand touched the water, she slowly closed her eyes. In this deserted place, her swimsuit-clad body emitted a faint blue glow. As the glow flickered, she fell towards the pool and seemed to merge with the water, not causing a single splash.
The girl comfortably closed her eyes and sank into the pool, which in that instant seemed to have no bottom, letting her freely follow the gravity down deeper and deeper, into a realm devoid of sunlight, into utter silence as if she were the only person in this world.
In this boundless descent, she slowly opened her eyes. Those originally pitch-black eyes now burst forth a brilliant blue light in the water, as if holding the entire ocean’s life.
Around her, it no longer seemed like the shallow swimming pool within the school but rather a dark place in the vast ocean. She quietly watched the surrounding illusory deep sea, and after a second or two, she softly started singing from the bottom. Using a tonal range impossible for human ears to catch, the sound traveled far and wide through the water, awakening some indescribable entity from its slumber.
"My Companion Sea Beast, awaken..."
In the darkness, a pair of blue pupils larger than islands suddenly opened, and the immense body, as mountainous as ever, began to shift with the girl’s singing. Unbeknownst to her, a giant beast had enveloped her without any visible end.
But Moli was not panicked at all; instead, she smiled slightly and extended her hand. At that moment, behind the girl, a tail like that of a whale stretched out, and a layer of ethereal headgear appeared on her face, flickering with the dazzling light of the ocean.
"Moli..."
The giant sea beast lowered its head to let Moli’s palm rest on its forehead, then its huge eyes lowered to meet Moli’s gaze—an ancient, odd language emanated from the sea.
"Fragrance Soul, I’ve reached land now, there are so many humans and so many buildings, even more than in the sea floor. I played here for a while, so I didn’t call you until now, hehe..."
The giant beast silently looked at the girl before it, its blue, gigantic eyes blinking, sending out massive waves.
"You should focus a bit, remember the task Lady gave you, and the most important thing is to find Lord Mu Xi."
"Don’t worry, Fragrance Soul, I’ve learned the human language, I’ll soon go find Aunt Mu Xi and also deliver mom’s letter to that human, but I want to know, why does mom send a letter every year to that human?"
"Lady had a deal with that human—she gave him her weapon to help him in his wars, and that human promised to return it when he turns thirty-five. It’s his thirty-fourth birthday now; next year is the time to fulfill his promise."
"I see, I’ll go deliver it soon, and after I find Aunt Mu Xi and deliver the letter, I’ll come back!"
"Okay...I’ve awakened now, call me if you need help. Later, I’ll have someone from the Crab Clan bring you some things, as you’ll probably need some trading items while moving among humans."
"Yeah..."
Moli smiled faintly, then her body uncontrollably started to float upwards, rapidly ascending from the profound depths of the dark ocean. The immense whale tail and the ethereal blue crown unknowable disappeared, and by the time she re-emerged at the surface in the school’s pool, she had completely returned to her human form.
She breathed out and extended her hand, her webbing slowly retracting, a pale blue brilliance dispersing from her body like ripples, transforming her completely back into her human form.
And she smiled faintly, whispering to the emptiness,
"Thank you, Lord Ramasitia..."
Under the water, a few bubbles mysteriously appeared, seemingly responding to the girl’s thanks.
