Chapter 289: Chapter 143 You’ve been tricked!_1

"..."

King?

It sounded formidable, and such a big BOSS would definitely have a horde of minions. Lin Baici wasn’t too keen on taking on that fight.

After all, the victory condition was to rescue someone, and killing the BOSS wasn’t necessary.

"Boss, that Brother Goblin is too terrifying. It might have poisonous items on it. I think it’s best to burn it with fire, no?"

The Bartender sized up the corpse, feigning concern for the group.

Lin Baici suppressed the urge to glance at the Bartender. After making sure Brother Goblin didn’t have anything valuable on him, he expressed his worry, "What if we release some sort of poisonous smoke by burning the body?"

"That won’t happen!"

The Bartender immediately chimed in, "Anyway, I think burning the body is the safest way. If it reanimates, we’ll have to fight it again!"

"So we fight again!"

Xia Hongyao was indifferent. "Anyway, it’s just a delivery guy."

"Heh heh!"

Lin Baici couldn’t help but chuckle. Indeed, since the start of this game, he had acquired several Taboo things, which were even greater than his finds in God’s ruins.

Counting them up, there were the Champion Dart, a coffee machine received as a maid reward, the Rose Lipstick traded from the woman in leather pants, as well as the Butcher’s Mask, the Gluttonous Apron, Voodoo Staff, and Voodoo Robe obtained by finishing the game.

It was a huge payoff.

Lin Baici felt that this insane maid must be a God, which explained the radiation and pollution of so many Taboo things.

Just like the ’Escape the Dungeon’ that they were playing now, it was probably a tabletop game produced by some company that became corrupted into a Taboo thing.

"For you, it’s just a delivery guy; for us, that’s Death himself knocking at the door!"

The woman in leather pants didn’t want to encounter such a creature again. She just wanted to get out as soon as possible.

"I think the Bartender’s worry makes some sense. Let’s just burn the body. It’s just lighting a fire; it’s not hard."

The old man thought it was better to be cautious.

"Right, it’s effortless!"

The Bartender couldn’t wait for Lin Baici to take action. He went back into the cave to look for a torch.

Lin Baici didn’t stop him.

Going to see the King wasn’t bad. If they could kill him, they would; if not, they’d retreat. And then there was the Bartender...

While he was away, Lin Baici gave Xia Hongyao a look.

The Bartender came back with a torch and ignited Brother Goblin’s corpse.

"Let’s go!"

Xia Hongyao urged.

The Bartender dawdled, walking very slowly, when suddenly, Brother Goblin’s body exploded with a loud bang. Burning flesh scattered in all directions, and black smoke billowed out like a tidal wave, enveloping Lin Baici and the rest.

"Damn it!"

The old man cursed.

Everyone was on high alert, fearing an ambush. After a little over a minute, the smoke cleared.

The good news was that no one was missing; the bad news was that everyone had been transported. They were now in a cave instead of the tunnel littered with corpses they had been in before.

The women with flaxen hair were also gone.

"Damn, I knew we shouldn’t have burned the body!"

The old man complained, glaring at the Bartender, "It’s all your fault!"

"How was I to know it would happen like this?"

The Bartender was helpless.

"Shall we hurry up and find a way out then?"

The leather pants woman sighed.

The group left the cave and hadn’t gone far in the tunnel when they heard noise. They immediately stealthily moved closer.

It was a palace that had been transformed from a cave, quite spacious, and in the center there was a throne made of bones, stones, and giant pieces of wood.

A male Goblin, adorned with a gold crown, sat upon it. Although only one meter seventy in height, he towered above the rest of the diminutive Goblins, standing out like a crane amongst chickens.

Below the throne, a large group of adult Goblins were having a feast.

They danced! Sang! Drank deeply!

In the palace, several wooden cages were set up, each holding about a dozen people. When the Goblins got excited, they would occasionally open a cage, grab a few people out, and chop them up on the spot, slurping their blood and gnawing on their innards before tossing the bodies into a bonfire to roast.

Some of the people were luckier, not to be eaten, but rather dragged in front of a large statue to be decapitated as a sacrifice to the Gods.

"Let’s go!"

After surveying the scene, Lin Baici decided to leave.

"Aren’t we going to kill them?"

The Bartender didn’t understand. "These creatures seem easy to kill despite their numbers. Probably only the King is a bit tough, but that gold crown and sword of his look like they’re worth fighting for."

"No killing!"

Lin Baici didn’t want to take the risk.

"Those people are suffering too much!"

The Bartender sighed, with a compassionate look on his face.

"Damn, the way you talk as if you have the heart of a Buddha, and we are demons!"

The old man spat on the ground.

Xia Hongyao sighed, "Little Linzi, should we save those people? After all, you have that ’Red Dragon King’ card..."

Before High Ponytail could finish, Lin Baici immediately scolded her.

"Shut up."

Lin Baici frowned, visibly disgusted.

"What are you afraid of? We’re so strong, who could steal your card?"

Xia Hongyao muttered with a hint of resentment. She pulled a card out from her pocket and handed it to Lin Baici, "Then take a look at this one. Does it help in killing the King? Surely those cards that crazy maid gave us aren’t completely useless, right?"

High Ponytail didn’t secure it, and the card fell out of her pocket.

Everyone immediately looked over.

Lin Baici’s right foot swiftly stepped forward, pressing down on the card so that no one could see the face of the card, then growled at Xia Hongyao, "Are you crazy?"

The atmosphere became awkward.

As the team leader, Lin Baici’s displayed strength was too dominant, causing everyone to dare not intervene. They all averted their gaze, pretending they hadn’t heard anything.
