Chapter 197: Chapter 113: Mad Dog Eats People_1
The barbecue stall owners fear one thing above all: someone getting drunk, starting a fight, and causing a scene. And if someone gets seriously injured and ends up in hospital, it can be a big headache.
"No one’s dead, just passed out from drinking too much. Don’t believe me? Come over and see for yourself!"
Lin Baici kicked the shoulder of the man lying next to his right foot.
Squatting beside the two men, who were out cold, Gu Qingxiang checked them over and, finding they were indeed okay, breathed a sigh of relief.
"You’re all still young. Win a fight, and you’ll end up in jail; lose, and you’re in the hospital. What’s the point?"
The vendor felt like crying but had no tears.
He was actually very grateful to Lin Baici. If it weren’t for his knocking out two guys with one punch and intimidating both groups, that big guy—given his nature—would have definitely caused enough trouble to split heads and draw blood.
But now the concern was whether the two knocked out were alright.
The vendor squatted beside the two, seeing that there were no apparent major injuries or even scratches—it was hard to tell whether they had suffered any internal injuries.
Lin Baici eyed the big guy who first grabbed the chair, ready to start the fight. "Sobered up yet?"
The big guy’s mouth was smeared with the residue of vomiting. Standing there, swaying, he looked at Lin Baici with a slight tremble in his gaze, but his mind had cooled down quite a bit.
Damn!
This one’s a tough nut to crack.
Back in middle and high school, the big guy had always been a punk, and with some connections at home that could smooth over the troubles that followed, he had gotten into his share of fights.
But even then, he wouldn’t dare to target vital parts of someone’s body when he fought because killing someone could land you in jail—yet here was this guy...
Damn!
He came at them with two punches, knocking them flat on the ground.
The instant his companions hit the ground, stiff as boards, the big guy broke into a cold sweat. Anyone knocked out cold by a punch to the point of rigid unconsciousness was either lucky not to be dead, or suffering a severe concussion.
Normally, anyone who laid out their opponent with a hit would take a second look, concerned, because killing someone was no joke.
Who wouldn’t be afraid?
But this guy didn’t even glance back at those two once; his demeanor was as if he had casually crushed two ants underfoot—indifferent.
Looking at his calm eyes sent shivers down the spine.
Crap!
Why do I feel like he’s killed people before, or at least seen his fill of dead bodies?
The big guy chickened out!
His arrogance before was because he could fight; now, though, he was on the receiving end of the beating, and he suspected that someone so composed must have strong connections at home.
"I’m awake! Wide awake!"
The big guy wanted to nod, but his head wouldn’t cooperate because he was too drunk.
There was no choice,
He had to act meekly. When someone could knock out a strong man with a single punch, getting physical yourself was just asking for humiliation.
"If you’re awake, then go pay the bill and get lost!"
Lin Baici chastised.
"I’ll pay! I’ll pay!"
The big guy was very obedient,
"Get these two up and take them back with you. My name is—" Lin Baici began to instruct.
Struck by the Drunken Fairy Fist, it’s like being dead drunk; a good sleep is all they need for recovery, and it’s not harmful to their health.
Lin Baici knew there would be no lingering effects, but they didn’t. So by giving a name, he provided reassurance that if a friend ended up in trouble, they could find the responsible party.
In truth, even if Lin Baici didn’t give his name, they would still be able to find him because there are surveillance cameras all over the streets.
But before Lin Baici could even say his name, Gu Qingxiang spoke up.
"My name is Gu Qingxiang. I’m an instructor for the Software Engineering program. If they have any issues, come to me," she offered, leaving her phone number.
Lin Baici acted because she stepped in to stop the fight, so she couldn’t get him involved. If anyone came looking for trouble, she would take the hit.
One savvy person in the group secretly dialed the number. Hearing Gu Qingxiang’s phone ringing, they were reassured.
When Lin Baici heard the ringtone, he raised an eyebrow, "Instructor Gu, let me see your phone. I want to jot down the number. Causing trouble while drinking outside the campus deserves a major demerit, regardless."
"With their number, they can’t run away. Even if they gave a fake name now, we can trace them through the number!" Lin Baici’s voice was stern.
The guy who called Gu Qingxiang’s phone, originally proud of his cleverness, now felt regret enough to bash his head against a wall.
Damn,
Left a trace behind.
But the big guy was experienced with fights; seeing that Gu Qingxiang and Lin Baici did not press to know everyone’s names, he realized that they didn’t intend to escalate the matter. So, he quickly signaled his companions, helping the two drunk to their feet and making a swift exit.
"Student Lin, I’m sorry for the trouble!"
Gu Qingxiang apologized.
"Next time something like this happens, stay back and just call the police!"
Lin Baici was speechless. Do you really think your instructor status is that intimidating?
It might scare the obedient, studious kids, at best.
"Mhm!"
Gu Qingxiang nodded,
Was she just cared for by a student?
Her cheeks warmed, turning red, and her heart thumped rapidly as if there was a little rabbit inside.
"Let’s go."
Lin Baici, noticing the vendor’s relieved expression and thinking back to his concern earlier about someone dying, suddenly realized that if he had indeed struck with lethal force, it would have brought real trouble.
It would be different if he became a God Hunter for the Jiuzhou Security Bureau. Those agents have a license to kill. Of course, they couldn’t justly take innocent lives, but with that license, they would have some operational leeway.
Why were God Hunters willing to join the Jiuzhou Security Bureau?
Salary was just one aspect; it was mainly about the status and power of being an official bureau member. At the very least, if they caused trouble, it would be an internal investigation by the Security Bureau, and the police had no authority to intervene.
