Chapter 1257: Chapter 568: Flash Gold Town, Lady Boss
Lin Baici continued along the winding dirt road.
It should be autumn now.
Lin Baici saw a wild fruit tree with green apples hanging from it.
Several wild boars were under the tree, feasting on the fallen apples. Hearing footsteps, they looked up, then continued to bury their heads and eat.
Lin Baici walked slowly past.
"Haha, the kid has lost his iron sword, what’s he going to fight monsters with? A shield?"
The Phoenix in the grass followed him.
When Lin Baici was about forty meters away from the boars, he stopped, lifted his right hand, and snapped his fingers.
Snap!
It was like the striking of flint, with orange sparks flickering from his fingertips, followed by a burst of ignition, stretching out to form a Flame Crow.
Whoosh!
The flame shot out and hit a wild boar.
Boom!
The flames rose, sweeping over the boar, turning it into a pile of ashes in the blink of an eye.
No light orbs dropped.
The other boars, seeing this, immediately ran away.
"What the hell is happening?"
The Phoenix from the grass was startled. Wasn’t this guy a warrior? How could he use magic?
And isn’t the initial magic supposed to be Fireball?
Why did he have Firebird?
Completely baffled, the Phoenix from the grass quickly retreated, keeping some distance to avoid being knocked out by the other party.
Lin Baici frowned.
Was it that there were no drops to begin with, or was it not allowed to use Divine Grace?
Ding!
A red game notification forcibly popped up in front of Lin Baici.
[Warning: Use of Divine Grace and weapons outside the game is prohibited. Monsters killed by them will not drop any rewards!]
[Additionally, after the warning, if players continue to use such equipment or skills, the accumulated achievement points will be cleared to zero.]
"As expected!"
Lin Baici had guessed this outcome, so he wasn’t disappointed. He opened the achievement board and glanced at it.
There was no one he knew in the top ten.
The first place was called "Lord Qin is Here," very imposing indeed!
Second place was "Call me Wo Kun Ge," with third place being "One Slash to Slay the God."
When Lin Baici and Xia Hongyao went their separate ways, they had already added each other as friends. He planned to send a message to High Ponytail to inform her that Divine Grace and other external game items were banned.
But before he finished typing, Xia Hongyao had already sent a message.
Great Detective Xia: Qingqiu has discovered a serious issue; our advantage has been suppressed.
Lin Da Hungry Man: Understood.
After a brief chat, Lin Baici continued on his way.
After about an hour, a small town appeared in the distance.
Flash Gold Town had arrived.
The town wasn’t large, split in two by the dirt road, only about a hundred meters long from east to west, easily seen in its entirety at a glance.
The largest building was a two-story wooden house.
There was a sign hanging next to the door that read "Lion King Tavern."
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The sound of a blacksmith forging iron came over, rhythmic and steady.
Lin Baici planned to check out the inn. As he approached, the Eater God spoke.
[You’ve got mail!]
On the right side of the entrance was a wooden post with a rusty mailbox on it.
Lin Baici walked over and opened the mailbox.
Inside was a letter covered in dust, apparently lying there for a long time.
Lin Baici looked around,
seeing no one,
he quickly took out the letter and tucked it into his chest.
As he entered the tavern, the scent of roast meat wafted to him, making Lin Baici’s mouth water involuntarily.
There were two tables of diners, wearing linen clothes, probably town residents, and one wine ghost who was slumped in a corner, soundly asleep on the table.
Behind the counter, there was a young woman in a long dress, typical of medieval fashion, with a low-cut bodice showing a large expanse of dazzling white skin.
The Lady Boss was wiping the counter and when she saw someone come in, she asked, "You here to eat or stay?"
"Auntie, I was robbed on the road and now I don’t have a single yuan. Does this town have any jobs?"
Lin Baici didn’t play many games, but he knew that NPCs offering quests would have prominent indicators, such as a yellow exclamation mark above their heads.
Now, this game was in open mode, with free exploration. Whether one could trigger a task was entirely up to the player.
If players were hotheaded and annoyed the NPCs, let alone taking on quests, it would be good if the NPCs didn’t unsheathe a sword and hack at them.
"Things haven’t been safe around the town lately. Can you go take a look for me?"
After speaking, the Lady Boss continued to wipe the counter.
The Phoenix from the grass came in, took a quick glance around the tavern, walked over and struck up a conversation with Lin Baici: "Got a quest?"
"Survey the town’s surroundings!"
This kind of information wasn’t necessary to hide.
The Phoenix from the grass nodded, placed his Magic Wand on the counter: "Beautiful lady, I am an excellent Mage, is there anything I can do for you?"
The Lady Boss didn’t speak, glanced at Phoenix’s clothes, then at the crude wand, her face filled with disbelief.
"Stranger, an apprentice is an apprentice, why pretend to be a grand Mage?"
The wine ghost woke up and mocked.
"I can prove it to you!"
Phoenix chuckled.
"All right, then you go wipe out the Goblin Tribe lurking in the western forest!"
The wine ghost spoke.
Phoenix’s eyes lit up: "What’s the reward?"
"Will a drink do?"
The wine ghost shook his liquor jug, spilling some due to the force. He immediately cursed, stuck out his tongue, and started licking the table hungrily.
Ignoring the wine ghost, Phoenix turned to the Lady Boss and explained, "I’m out here for training; when I return, I’ll be a grand Mage!"
