Chapter 401: Chapter 389 Dining
At the entrance of the sushi restaurant, Hua Yuan impatiently waited for Luo Di to approach,
"What were you looking at just now? You’ve been standing there for ages, it’s quite dangerous here."
"Aren’t I wearing the Sisterhood badge? I should be fine. I was just curious seeing a city like this for the first time.
I didn’t expect a city entirely made up of monsters could look like this. At least on the surface, it doesn’t seem much different from human society, and all the monsters maintain a human form."
"What’s so surprising? After all, everyone’s essence was initially human. It’s just that the mind developed Corners, fully expressing the inner self.
Although we possess the true form of monsters,
the human shape is universally recognized as the most balanced, energy-efficient, and essential basic form.
To survive in a ghostly place like Corner, without going mad or losing oneself, you have to retain a bit of humanity, even if it’s just a trace, and the human form is a constant reminder of that.
Of course, the so-called humanity is something most ’people’ here hardly have, they just believe they possess it.
Enough chit-chat, let’s eat something first~ The emergency food on the car is dreadful.
This sushi shop is one of our Sisterhood’s favorite places, and I personally adore it. Sister Yu Lu seems to have dined here as well; she’s already gone in to save a spot, let’s follow her.
I guarantee you’ll love it."
"It’s not some weird kind of meat, right?"
Hua Yuan smiled gently, "What are you thinking? That kind of meat is rare and precious, it generally won’t appear in a restaurant.
This sushi place is one of the few restaurants close to human society, with flavors that are very authentic. The meat ingredients come from the differentiation of animal cells from a monster’s body.
Didn’t I just say?
In a ghostly place like Corner, even we monsters have to live as humanly as possible to avoid going completely insane.
Of course, there are quite a few folks who genuinely enjoy that kind of meat. I remember one of the Eight Evil People is such an extreme pervert, preferring to operate in the Shallow Area, targeting humans specifically. Naturally, he can barely accept monster meat too."
"Eight Evil People?"
Luo Di recalled seeing a child drawing in the corridor when he parted ways with Yu Ze and Youzhen earlier. The kid seemed harmless but had an unmistakable scent of raw meat.
Hua Yuan rose on her tiptoes, looking around, "I wonder if that clown might follow your scent here, I’m kind of looking forward to it."
As they walked into the sushi restaurant, it was surprisingly a revolving buffet style.
As Luo Di entered, many diners sniffed the air and turned their heads, but when they saw the Sisterhood badge on Luo Di, they turned back.
Yu Lu had already saved seats for three. She was stretching her neck, selecting plates of sushi coming out of the kitchen via a conveyor belt.
Hua Yuan sat right next to Yu Lu,
while Luo Di sat beside Hua Yuan. Being not sandwiched in between, Luo Di ended up sitting next to a stranger.
The person was quite large, wearing a bizarre tight outfit with five distinct layers of belly fat visible.
Moreover, the diner’s face was covered with something like a stocking, only a slit was cut around the mouth for eating.
He was quite picky about his food,
selecting only the sushi with the most meat, and naturally, Luo Di, being a pure human, piqued his interest as well.
When he saw the Sisterhood badge on Luo Di, he just sniffed the air slightly and returned to focusing on the sushi.
From the side came Hua Yuan’s voice, "Luo Di, eat as much as you like~ You need to be completely full! The death game we’re about to join might last a long time, with no nutritional supply midway.
Don’t worry about the money. If you win the game, it will be deducted from your share."
"Alright."
Luo Di casually picked up a plate of the cheapest plain rice sushi,
and as he chewed it, the texture of the rice grains surprisingly had a meat-like elasticity, and after biting through, a liquid oozed out. It not only had a sweet taste, but it could even nourish the pituitary to some extent.
"This rice..."
"Isn’t it amazing? The chef here really knows how to cater to customers. The price might be a bit higher, but the quality is genuine.
By the way, Luo Di, whatever you do, do not go to the back kitchen. They’ve sealed it just to preserve everyone’s dining experience, so don’t worry about the hygiene."
"Okay."
Following the local customs, as long as the food was delicious and harmless to the body, Luo Di didn’t mind how it was prepared.
Gradually, he relaxed, freely taking sushi from the conveyor belt.
Luo Di also glanced sideways at Hua Yuan, noticing that despite being hungry and enjoying the unique delicacies not found in the Sisterhood, she was restrained, eating very ladylike.
Perhaps sensing Luo Di’s gaze, Hua Yuan gave him a fierce glare.
As for Yu Lu on the other side, her way of eating seemed odd, even creepy,
the sushi she chose were mostly vegetarian, occasionally selecting squid or shrimp sushi.
Her eating style was peculiar, sitting upright with her neck straight, always maintaining a 90° angle to the floor.
Instead of using her hands, she extended her tongue from her mouth, a half-meter long tongue that slid onto the plate, rolled up the sushi, and slowly withdrew it into her mouth.
Perhaps sensing Luo Di’s gaze, her eyes, hidden by straight bangs, glanced over briefly before returning to the food conveyor belt.
And so, plates piled up in front of the three.
Initially, Luo Di was somewhat repulsed by the meat, but after trying, he found the taste was somewhere between chicken and rabbit, and it was actually quite good.
As Luo Di eyed a plate of fried meat sushi moving by, just as he reached for the edge of the plate, another greasy hand extended, gripping the other side.
In fairness,
Luo Di had grabbed it first, so it should be his food.
All diners seemed to adhere to this rule, yet the other person wouldn’t let go.
Though Luo Di was a bit annoyed, considering it was his first time in a city of monsters and he had important matters to attend to later, it was best to avoid unnecessary trouble.
He let go of the plate.
The large stranger next to him, wearing a stocking headpiece, didn’t immediately eat the fried meat sushi after securing it, but spoke in a contemptuous tone:
"Inferior human servant, how dare you sit at the table. The perfect sushi spoiled by the scent left by your fingers on the plate’s edge, I..."
However, this person’s words suddenly came to a halt.
Because an invisible noose was somehow looped around his neck, securely tied to the ceiling.
With the noose in place, the person’s neck was quickly elongated, leaving him nearly suffocated.
The abilities from his pituitary seemed blocked by the noose, preventing him from assuming his monster form.
While Luo Di was slightly surprised by this sudden turn of events,
a low voice came from beside him, Hua Yuan’s voice,
but it lacked the previous tenderness and affection, instead mixed with invasive Killing Intent.
"Luo Di, duck."
As Luo Di lowered his head,
a knife-hand sliced horizontally.
Swish! The elongated neck from the hanging was severed, without a spurt of blood but with flowers growing at the severed part, preventing blood from spilling and dirtying the restaurant.
The headless body fell to the floor,
and the flowers continued to sap nutrients from the body, sparing neither Skin nor bone.
In less than a minute,
the large diner was completely drained by the flowers, leaving blooms scattered everywhere.
The restaurant staff approached, not to assign blame but to apologize to Hua Yuan and the others.
Then they began collecting the flowers from the floor, crafting them into floral decorations for the restaurant, making the sushi shop cozier as though nothing had happened.
When Luo Di turned back, he found that the previously less conversational sisters used the incident as a segue to start talking.
"Sister Yu’s techniques are amazing, is this an invisible domain effect?"
"Hmm~ you’re impressive too."
Hua Yuan even moved her chair, distancing from Luo Di and leaning towards Sister Yu, their arms tightly pressed together, engaging in sisterly small talk.
Luo Di shrugged, retrieving the fried meat sushi previously discarded by the monster, enjoying it heartily.
