Chapter 4765: Chapter 3838: The School Doctor’s "Daily Life" (16)

After bandaging Arkham Batman’s wound, Shiller returned to his office to sit down. Although there’s still more than half of the script he hasn’t memorized, he chose to nervously play with his phone and chat with the director team in the group.

Suddenly, the door to the office was knocked on. Without lifting his head, Shiller called out, "Come in."

He looked up and found it was Arkham Batman. This guy walks without a sound and moves particularly fast. As soon as he entered the door, he somehow darted right next to Shiller and saw his phone screen.

"Are you chatting?"

Shiller nodded and didn’t feel offended. After all, the group only has emojis and memes, so there wasn’t any important information.

"I thought your universe didn’t have the internet."

"The school indeed doesn’t." Shiller said, "The internet in our universe is quite advanced, and now some cities have access to interstellar internet. Because of this, we strictly limit the online time for minors to prevent them from being influenced by some bad information. Even if some students are adults, the Supreme Magician feels that overly rich internet content might hinder their studies, so the school isn’t connected. I’m using the staff intranet now."

"I see." Arkham Batman nodded and said, "By the way, did you find the missing mirror?"

"You’re here just to ask this?"

"After all, it’s quite suspicious for the school hospital to lose something, right?"

Upon hearing this, Shiller knew it was definitely Batman’s detective syndrome acting up. He thought for a moment and said, "How about this, if you can help me find the mirror, I can give you some reward. What do you want?"

"I don’t have that ability." Arkham Batman said, "Anyone who can steal something from the Magic Academy isn’t ordinary. Even if I can find him, I might not be able to defeat him, better not to look for trouble."

"I thought you guys love finding trouble." Shiller smiled and said, "How’s the wound? Still hurting?"

"That’s my real purpose for coming." Arkham Batman said, "You bandaged me a bit too tightly, my arm feels a bit numb. Could you adjust the bandage for me?"

Shiller hurriedly stepped forward to check and found he indeed bandaged a bit too tight, so he took him back to the ward, got new bandages from the preparation room, and rewrapped him.

"When I was in class, I heard about the magic defense network here, sounds pretty good. Can you tell me about it?"

Shiller immediately cheered up and said, "You’ve got a good eye, this is the star product of our universe. Bringing so many people from other universes here is to promote this. Hold on, I’ll get the product manual for you..."

Shiller rummaged through his office drawer, then handed Arkham Batman the product manual Strange had given him earlier, and said, "There are some books in the library that introduce the specific principles, the numbers are written in the manual. If you’re interested, you can take a look, or you can talk to the Supreme Magician. He’d be very happy to discuss this with you."

Shiller wasn’t lying. Although Strange doesn’t really like Batman, he wouldn’t let personal matters interfere with public ones. Bringing so many people to their universe was not only to unite them but also to promote the magic defense network. Besides collecting some technical and energy fees, enhancing Earth’s security and strengthening the overall human race is very important as well. So, even if the initial profits aren’t much, he’s happy to help.

"I’ll go to the library." Arkham Batman said.

They chatted for a while longer, mainly revolving around the magic defense network. Shiller explained the basic principles to him as much as he could, but Shiller couldn’t fully understand it either. Or rather, Batman absorbs knowledge so quickly that the little he knows couldn’t sustain an hour before Batman’s questions left him speechless.

When Arkham Batman felt his injuries were fine, the morning was almost over. Arkham Batman perfectly completed his purpose of stalling, and before lunch, he went back to the dormitory to meet up with Primary Universe Batman.

"How was it?"

"Almost there." Primary Universe Batman turned one of the mirrors around. Arkham Batman saw runes carved on the back, taught in the runes class — foundational runes that guide magic power to a certain place to create some simple changes.

Batman pulled out his magic wand and directed magic power at these runes. Soon, some numbers and intriguing runes floated on the mirror. The two studied for a while, Arkham Batman shared with Primary Universe Batman what he learned from Shiller today.

"Did you say this school is connected to the magic defense network?" Primary Universe Batman suddenly asked.

"Hard to say, but if it’s connected, there should be an energy node or something. Perhaps we can modify another mirror to turn it into an energy detector. The area with high energy levels would indicate where the node is."

"Let’s head to the library and look for some books on the principles of the magic defense network. I saw several before, which I think will help our current research."

Arkham Batman didn’t refuse, he even called Big Adventure Batman to join them. After hearing their plan, Big Adventure Batman said, "So you guys want to set up a private network connection to the outside internet and investigate the magic defense network too?"

"It’s actually one thing." Primary Universe Batman said, "Setting up a private network connection would require knowledge relevant to the magic defense network. Once we learn the techniques for magical private networking, we’ll probably have a pretty deep understanding of the magic defense network as well."

"We must first avoid the Supreme Magician." Big Adventure Batman said, "Although he’s happy for us to learn about the magic defense network, he definitely wouldn’t allow us to set up a private network. Are you planning to experiment in the dormitory?"

"Definitely not, we need to find a secret base," said Arkham Batman.

"It’s not that simple, the whole school is under the Supreme Magician’s surveillance. Do you think you can do something under his nose?"

"I don’t think so," said Primary Universe Batman, leaving Adventure Batman puzzled. Primary Universe Batman simply lowered his voice and said, "I’ll take you to a place tonight."

The three Batmen seized lunchtime to dive into books at the library. When they read about the Magical Defense Network, they regained some confidence, as the content seemed finally more scientific—in other words, systematic and traceable, unlike children’s books or fairy tales.

"I’m increasingly feeling that the catalog has issues," said Arkham Batman, "it’s completely different from this."

The book in his hand was incredibly thick, with English, Latin, and Runes intertwined. The content was complex and convoluted, the kind that with one glance would make one’s head spin, yet Arkham Batman gave it high praise.

"What classes are in the afternoon?" asked Primary Universe Batman without looking up.

"Magic History and Magic Theory, and Lucifer will be lecturing Cosmos Construction."

"I’m planning to skip class, what about you guys?"

Arkham Batman and Adventure Batman exchanged a glance.

"Then I’m not going either," said Adventure Batman, "I highly respect our dear Lady Hippo, but I honestly have zero interest in all the drama among the gods. Also, what the heck is Cosmos Construction?"

"It’s even more incomprehensible," said Arkham Batman, "it’s about how God created the world."

"What’s his take on the Bible’s Genesis?"

"Not the creation story from the Bible, but the actual principles of forging a universe. He seems like he really wants to teach us how to create worlds like God."

"You’re not interested?"

"When do you think I’ll ever use this knowledge?" Arkham Batman asked back, "Do you think I can go to Heaven after I die?"

"Unless God likes using the Batmobile to break others’ spines," Adventure Batman grinned and smirked.

So the three of them skipped the afternoon classes. The classes were with Saturn Academy, but only Lego Batman was assigned to Saturn Academy. The others were not familiar with Batman or cared whether he attended class.

The absence of other Batmen was actually a good thing for Lego Batman, as he felt no one would steal his thunder. However, the truth was, the afternoon classes were so dull that he had no desire to stand out. He fell asleep during three of Lucifer’s sentences.

The other students actually preferred such classes because meditation and rune study are exhausting, but sitting there listening to stories requires little effort. If they lose interest, they can just close their eyes and nap. Since everyone was absent-minded, no one noticed anyone missing.

The professors seemed to realize some students were absent, but due to a fight that morning, they assumed the absent students went to the school clinic and didn’t pursue the matter.

In this way, the three Batmen successfully skipped the afternoon classes and spent all their time researching the principles of the Magical Defense Network. Batman’s learning ability is truly astonishing; focusing for an entire afternoon was enough for them to absorb most of the knowledge from those hefty books.

By dinnertime, they still didn’t go to eat. Adventure Batman went to the cafeteria and packed some food. After eating with a few bites, the three seemed glued to the library benches and continued their study late into the night.

The library had no closing time, always brightly lit. No one checked dormitories either, so their behavior didn’t attract any attention.

Deep into the night, Primary Universe Batman and Arkham Batman pulled out those colorful books from nooks and crannies, activated the mechanism, and entered the secret chamber behind the registration desk.

"I just checked, the chamber is simply a piston mechanism, which can be activated using a special Magic Energy frequency. I’m planning to modify this frequency. Whoever used it before, from now on it belongs to us," said Primary Universe Batman.

Adventure Batman was entering here for the first time, he also glanced at the books on the shelf, the notebook, and the map.

"This seems like a formidable character," Adventure Batman frowned and said, "We’ve taken over his base, won’t he be trouble for us?"

"We’re students of this school, we have every right to use all facilities here. Whoever he is, we’re more entitled than him. And we’re still puzzled about his identity."

"We’ve taken his secret base, I’m afraid he’ll soon make a move," said Arkham Batman, "If he gets furious and the Supreme Magician discovers his whereabouts, it’ll be an interesting show to watch."
