Chapter 4752: Chapter 3825: The School Doctor’s "Daily Routine" (3)
Shiller never expected that on the first day of the new school year at Magic Academy, the school hospital would welcome its first patient—a Night Owl with low blood sugar.
When Night Owl was brought over by the Hippo Goddess, Shiller stood dumbfounded at the entrance, watching her carry him inside.
"Wait, what’s the deal? Batman has low blood sugar?"
Shiller thought this news could definitely make it as one of the universe’s wonders of the year, perhaps even contending for the top spot. He truly couldn’t understand how Batman could have low blood sugar.
At this moment, a figure sneakily followed behind the Hippo Goddess. Lucifer tugged Shiller into the office, shut the door, and then revealed an awkward smile, saying, "This is my fault."
"What exactly happened?" Shiller couldn’t help but ask.
"Did you forget how they came? Not through Battleworld, but I drove the cosmos to send them to the outside of your Origin Wall, then entered the Multiverse, and finally came to the barrier of the Individual Universe."
"Yes, but what does that have to do with his low blood sugar?"
"Because passing through many universe barriers in succession involved very complicated information conversion, so before coming, I told them to fast."
"Huh?"
"What I meant was, try to clear the energy in the body as much as possible. If one belongs to the God Clan, they must disperse all Divine Power; if human, they should maintain a low-energy state for easier information conversion."
"So they didn’t eat before coming?"
"No, and they might have been hungry for two or three days. You know, Batman has such a personality; as long as I say, they’ll actively minimize risks to prevent any accidents."
"So why is he the only one with low blood sugar?"
"You’re a doctor, don’t you know?"
"I’m a psychiatrist, I..." Shiller was about to say he truly didn’t know, but he thought about it and did manage to figure out something.
Blood sugar levels reflect the body’s glucose metabolism state, and glucose metabolism varies from person to person. Some people metabolize quickly, while others do so more slowly, leading to different average blood sugar levels. A normal adult’s average blood sugar level should be stable within the standard range, far below which results in low blood sugar.
But there’s another situation, where human intervention causes average blood sugar levels to rise, then returning to normal can also lead to low blood sugar.
"Has he used any drugs recently? Caffeine?" Shiller asked, frowning.
"That I don’t know." Lucifer frowned and said, "Anyway, before he came over, he didn’t seem to be doing well. I don’t understand the specific medical terms, but he looked very exhausted."
Shiller understood. Although he didn’t know exactly what drugs Night Owl used to raise average blood sugar levels, which then led to low blood sugar due to low glucose intake, he did know why Night Owl was exhausted lately.
Don’t forget, earlier he went with Mad Laugh to cause chaos in Broken Bat’s universe, greatly offending Arkham Batman. Mad Laugh was sanctioned, Black Magic Batman was chased by Ke Fu, so how could Night Owl escape unscathed? How could Arkham Batman let him go?
It’s not entirely because Arkham Batman and Primary Universe Batman came late that they needed to clean up those two universes’ messes. Arkham Batman is considered one of the more petty ones among Batmans; otherwise, he wouldn’t gather so many trophies in one night just to deal with the Riddler. This is a truly vengeful character who won’t let a chief offender like Night Owl off.
Although Night Owl is not weak, Arkham Batman is stronger. Even before Night Owl’s true nature was exposed, he couldn’t be too harsh, but just a slight move would leave Night Owl overwhelmed. Not to mention, Primary Universe Batman stands with Arkham Batman. Just these two gods alone are enough to drive him mad.
Shiller guessed these two surely went to investigate Night Owl’s Origin Universe. Hiding a universe isn’t that easy. Night Owl must have consumed lots of caffeine for stimulation in these past few days.
Caffeine significantly raises blood sugar levels, and long-term consumption might elevate average blood sugar levels, causing Night Owl’s average blood sugar level to rise recently.
Then, to cross the universe, Lucifer made them fast. Night Owl probably feared eating would cause issues, so he followed Lucifer’s advice and fasted for several days.
Although other Batmans also fasted and missed out on the magical school’s dinner, their average blood sugar levels were normal. Night Owl’s average blood sugar level had been elevated, and not eating for such a long time caused it to drop, resulting in low blood sugar.
Knowing the reason, Shiller couldn’t help but chuckle. Who would have thought, the evil villain leader within Batman’s group would fall due to low blood sugar before a plan even began?
Of course, Shiller had suspected he was feigning to get close to him. But the instrument’s readings don’t lie; Night Owl directly fainted from low blood sugar. Even if he wanted to approach, he wouldn’t risk it to such an extent. He knew Shiller sided with Primary Universe Batman; it’s akin to walking into a lion’s den.
Clearing up the logic behind it, Shiller didn’t feel it was Night Owl’s stupidity leading to this situation. The main reason was that Primary Universe Batman and Arkham Batman’s joint effort was too strong, placing immense pressure on Night Owl. This was purely a coerced error.
But since he’s here, Shiller couldn’t leave him untreated. Although he’s a psychiatrist, he still knows how to set up an IV.
Don’t ask why he doesn’t use magical methods; these Batmans haven’t turned the corner yet, viewing magic as a horrifying beast. Didn’t you see they didn’t even dare to have dinner?
If Night Owl knew Shiller treated him with magic energy, his body might be healed, but wouldn’t his psyche suffer a blow?
After prescribing medication, administering injections, and setting up the IV, Shiller didn’t continue to stay in the ward but returned to his office. However, as soon as he sat down, he heard the ward bell ringing, so he had to go back.
Night Owl recovered quite quickly, waking up right after the glucose infusion started. The moment Shiller walked in, he saw Night Owl’s expression of despair.
"Don’t worry, this is just ordinary glucose, no magical components," Shiller said. "You just have regular low blood sugar, not suffering from any magical radiation or anyone’s schemes."
Night Owl didn’t seem relieved at all. He stared intently at Shiller’s face, as if trying to find a trace of dishonesty in his expression. But Shiller’s face was calm, and there was indeed nothing unusual to be seen.
"Alright, once you finish this IV drip, you can be discharged. And try to cut down on coffee in the future," Shiller cautiously advised. At the mention of coffee, Night Owl’s expression indeed changed.
"I just need it occasionally to stay awake," Night Owl said, clearing his throat. "I’ve been quite busy recently, so I took some caffeine pills."
Shiller sensed that Night Owl was also testing if he knew about someone trying to kill him. Shiller didn’t want to get entangled in Batman’s tangled affairs, so he directly said, "You know, I’m a psychiatrist. I can’t really give you any health advice. If you insist on hearing something, all I can say is, death is inevitable for everyone, and dying of natural causes or being killed ends the same way. Don’t stress it."
Night Owl looked even more despondent.
"Wait a minute," Night Owl called out to Shiller, "Can just anyone enter the school hospital?"
"Of course not, people without illness can’t get in," Shiller said. "To be precise, you have to be brought in by a Professor; you can’t get in by yourself."
Night Owl had just relaxed when he heard the Hippo Goddess’s voice outside the ward: "Oh my! Doctor! Hurry over here, we have another case of someone overindulging and facing indigestion..."
The Hippo Goddess squeezed her plump body through the door, and as she turned, Bruce’s smiling face was revealed on the stretcher.
Night Owl’s uneasy heart completely sank.
"Don’t come over here!" Night Owl shouted, "Doctor, keep him over there; don’t let him lie next to me!"
"Do you own this hospital? Do you think you can tell me what to do?" Shiller scoffed. "All patients are assigned by bed number, if you’re not satisfied, you can just leave."
Of course, Night Owl wanted to leave, but his low blood sugar symptoms hadn’t fully recovered yet; he was still weak and sweating coldly, unable to walk away, so he could only watch as Bruce lay down beside him.
Shiller gave Bruce a simple examination, confirmed he indeed had some indigestion, prescribed some digestive enzymes, and let him rest there.
"What are you up to?!" Night Owl was now fully on edge, watching Bruce warily. Bruce casually rolled over in bed, turned toward Night Owl, propped his head on his hand, and blinked at him, saying, "I knew you wouldn’t make it through tonight. Who told you not to eat?"
"You came just to laugh at me?"
"Of course not, I specifically came to protect you. Do you think those two will quietly stay in their dorm tonight after hearing you got hospitalised for low blood sugar?"
Night Owl’s expression showed signs of cracking, but he feigned composure, saying, "This is a magical school after all, wouldn’t the professors and principal notice someone sneaking around at night?"
"There’s a difference between noticing and taking action, and yet another difference if they can actually manage it," Bruce said. "If those two can chase you to this sorry state, do you really think they can’t fool the professors and principal?"
"Not necessarily," Night Owl turned his head, saying, "Professors and the principal aren’t ordinary people; they can do magic. Most Batmans don’t have the capability to counter magic, especially magic this strong."
"What if they, like me, also pretend to be sick to get into the school hospital?"
"They wouldn’t be as shameless as you!" Night Owl couldn’t help the anger in his tone, "What are you really here for?"
"You know I’ve got connections, right? I’m here to find someone who can let me out of the school for a stroll."
Night Owl suddenly paused. His eyes moved slightly as he asked, "Can you really get out?"
"Hard to say, it depends on whether this connection is willing to do me a favor," Bruce shrugged. "I can’t say for sure if I can persuade them. But I think if I stay here longer, it’s only a matter of time before I get into a fight with those people. They probably don’t want the school destroyed either, right?"
"That’s actually a good reason," Night Owl said. "Rather than attacking you, they now want to attack me more. Temporarily separating us is indeed the smart choice."
"You’re talking like you have the power to fight back when they attack you," Bruce scoffed. "If it’s a one-sided beating, it probably won’t cause much of a stir, so there’s no need to separate you two. You already can’t beat them, and in your current weak state, it’s even less likely."
Night Owl, infuriated, heaved repeatedly, but soon suppressed his anger and said, "If it’s purely about brute force, I indeed can’t beat them. But don’t forget, this is a Magic Academy. Who can guarantee their magic talent is definitely superior to mine?"
"Hard to say," Bruce smirked.
He quickly added, "You see, there are so many new students today, which indicates that the requirement for magic talent in this universe isn’t high. Otherwise, where would so many geniuses come from? I think hard work might be more important."
Night Owl narrowed his eyes.
"To be honest, I pretended to be sick and came here just so I could wander around the school, hopefully making it to the library to look for study materials. If I can get a head start at the beginning stage, it won’t be easy for others to catch up."
"You want to drag me along?"
"You don’t have to come. Anyway, if those two find their way here at midnight and beat you up, it won’t cause me any loss."
Night Owl swiftly climbed out of bed.
"Now! Immediately! Let’s go!"
