Chapter 63: Chapter 63- like a brother

Before Lilian, Morrison hadn’t dated any woman for at least half a year — his romantic life was a complete blank. The model after Lilian was just a few days’ fling, nothing serious, and Monna was even less of a factor.

Before Morrison could defend himself, Linda cut him off:

"Enough, enough. Whether that girl is reliable or not, or if she’s really suitable for Karl, you’ll see for yourself when you come back tomorrow night and meet her at dinner."

After hanging up, Morrison hesitated for a moment, then told Norton to change his schedule.

He was curious now — who was this mysterious girl that could make Karl, whose heart belonged only to research, stir with feelings and even bring her home for dinner?

Speaking of dinner at Karl’s house, Lilian felt frustrated. How could she have expected Linda to invite her over already? She and Karl had only just met. Even if they were really dating, going to his house for dinner so soon felt a little too much.

But to her surprise, her mother was right there encouraging the idea. Linda was enthusiastic, insisting that even if she and Karl weren’t officially a couple, their families had long-standing ties, so it was perfectly normal for Lilian to visit the Mosfamily for a meal.

In the end, Lilian couldn’t refuse the warm invitation.

She told herself that luckily Morrison was away on business and wouldn’t be back until Sunday — so if she went to dinner on Saturday, she wouldn’t have to face any awkward moments with him.

So on Saturday evening, following her mother’s suggestion, Lilian wore a nude-colored dress and headed out for the dinner.

Her hair was styled by Tiffany — parted into two strands at the front, each braided back and pinned with two small black clips.

The look made her appear fresh, gentle, sweet, and charming.

Out of gentlemanly courtesy, Karl came to pick Lilian up.

Under the watchful eyes of her parents, Lilian got into Karl’s car, starting what would be a fateful dinner.

Once inside, Karl apologized sincerely:

"Sorry I couldn’t stop this meeting from happening..." free\we,bnovel.c o(m)

They had previously agreed that Karl would do his best to prevent any arranged meetings between their parents. But this was his first time back home visiting his own family, and despite all his tricks, he couldn’t get Linda to back down. So he contacted Lilian and invited her to attend the dinner that evening.

Morrison arrived at the Mosfamily estate, weary and dust-covered, around seven o’clock that Saturday evening.

Originally, he was supposed to return Sunday night, but after a call from Linda urging him to come back sooner, he and Norton had to work overtime, racing against the clock to finish everything. Then they caught the fastest flight home — all just to attend the dinner for Karl’s girlfriend’s first visit to the Mosfamily.

As the eldest brother, it was only proper that Morrison be there.

By this time, Lilian had already arrived, surrounded by Lady Mosand Lord Mo, chatting away.

Bringing a girlfriend home was a big deal, after all. Even the lord and lady themselves had come. The old couple never expected that it wouldn’t be their eldest grandson, already thirty-three, who’d fulfill their dream first — but the youngest grandson, just returned from abroad.

Lady Mossighed, "I thought Morrison, with his charm, would have been married long ago and brought us a grandchild. But after all these years, not even a girlfriend has come home. And now, the youngest returns and falls in love at once — quite the surprise."

Lord Mos was busy in the kitchen preparing food. Though he wasn’t quite approving of Karl and Lilian as a couple, he couldn’t go against his wife’s wishes. Besides, he liked Lilian — even if not as a future daughter-in-law, simply as a daughter.

Linda popped in occasionally to help in the kitchen before returning to the lively group.

Lilian sat side by side with karl, both smiling broadly on the outside but inwardly feeling utterly overwhelmed.

Linda proudly told Tiffany how flawless her matchmaking skills were, having successfully paired Karl and Lilian.

Both Karl and Lilian’s smiles were so stiff they might have been frozen in place.

At one point, Lilian’s juice glass emptied, and Lord Mosmade some fresh juice with the juicer, which Lilian found delicious.

Karl got up to pour her another glass, playing the role of the perfect boyfriend with gentle care.

As he returned, he suddenly heard the door open at the entrance.

In walked Morrison, carrying a suitcase, looking exhausted from travel.

Karl, still holding the juice, looked surprised.

"Bro, you’re back? I thought you said you’d be home tomorrow."

Karl had no idea Morrison was coming to the dinner tonight.

He’d assumed Morrison’s trip would keep him away.

Frankly, Karl secretly hoped Morrison wouldn’t show up at all.

The fewer people who knew about his fake relationship with Lilian, the less trouble he’d face when the charade was eventually revealed.

But little did he expect that Linda would not only invite Lord and Lady Mos but also notify Morrison to come back...

Linda never told Karl that Morrison was coming back. In her mind, Karl’s job was simply to bring his girlfriend home — everything else was none of his business.

Morrison cast a tired glance at Karl.

"Mom said you’d be bringing your girlfriend home today, so I had to come back."

karl smiled at that, then turned to call out to Lilian, who was sitting not far away on the living room sofa.

"Lilian, my brother’s back — come meet him."

Hearing Lilian’s name from Karl’s mouth made Morrison’s brow furrow involuntarily. That name was so familiar to him, stirring memories of a certain young lady — but he quickly dismissed the thought. It was probably just a coincidence; there was no way she was Karl’s girlfriend.

Out of courtesy, he followed Karl’s gaze and looked over.

From the group on the sofa, a familiar figure rose — wearing a nude-colored dress, fresh makeup, an elegant braided hairstyle. She was graceful, gentle, and radiant.

Morrison’s expression instantly darkened.

At the same time, a fierce fire rose in his chest — he wished he could burn the girl approaching him with just his eyes, or better yet, throw her out the door on the spot.

So this was the "well-behaved, sensible, and perfect" girl Mom had praised — the one supposedly meant for Karl?

So all this effort and rush to get back was just to see the girl he liked now dating his younger brother?

So she was the girl who had captured Karl’s heart at first sight and whom he willingly brought home?

Morrison felt like his chest would explode, overwhelmed by anger.

Morrison was miserable. Lilian was even worse.

When she heard Karl say his brother was back, she froze on the spot.

She’d only reluctantly come to the dinner because she was sure Morrison wouldn’t be there tonight.

Had she known Morrison was coming, she wouldn’t have come for anything in the world.

But it was too late for "ifs" — the awkward encounter had already happened.

And with Karl calling her name, she had no choice but to stand and walk over. It was basic etiquette, after all.

Karl was younger, and she was his girlfriend — so naturally, she had to take the initiative to greet the older brother.

She’d secretly dated Morrison — a relationship kept under wraps — but with Karl, it was all a public sham.

Her fate with these two brothers was truly...

Lilian didn’t even know how to describe it. All she knew was that every step felt like walking on thin ice — filled with fear and anxiety.

Because Morrison’s gaze could consume her.

Yet she also deeply knew her current status as Karl’s girlfriend.

So, no matter what, she couldn’t show even a hint of awkwardness or discomfort in front of Morrison.

Smiling softly with a graceful curve on her lips, she walked over.

Terrified of Morrison’s intense presence, Lilian dared not meet his eyes once. Instead, she could only helplessly keep her gaze on Karl.

To Morrison, this looked like her whole world revolved around Karl — and it only fueled the storm raging in his chest.

No sooner had Lilian stood beside Karl than he lifted her into a warm embrace and enthusiastically introduced them both.

"Bro, this is my girlfriend, Lilian."

Then, turning to Lilian, he said, "Lilian, this is my brother."

After the introductions, Karl chuckled to himself.

"I almost forgot—my brother and your brother are close friends, so you probably already know him. What’s the point of introducing?"

Karl held Lilian tightly, smiling. Lilian stiffened for a moment, then forced a small smile at Morrison.

"H-hello, Mr. Morrison..."

Morrison shot her a fierce glare. Immediately, Lilian felt guilty and averted her eyes.

Karl glanced at her, then at his own brother, whose face was cold and sour, and frowned thoughtfully.

Morrison was about to lose his temper, so he ignored Lilian, gave her a hard look, then turned on his heel, grabbed his luggage, and strode upstairs.

Linda hurried after him, scolding Morrison’s retreating back.

"Hey, Morrison!"

"How can you be so rude? Lilian just greeted you, and you just walked away without even a word? What kind of manners are those?"

"Sorry, I’m just a bit tired."

Without turning back, Morrison tossed out that one sentence and disappeared around the corner of the spiral staircase upstairs.

Linda quickly turned back to Lilian, apologizing.

"Sorry about that, Lilian. Morrison’s just got that terrible temper — spoiled by that ’I-run-the-show’ attitude of his. Plus, he just got back from a trip, so he’s a bit worn out. Please don’t take it personally..."

"You really shouldn’t be mad at him."

Lilian shook her head and smiled gently.

"I’m not upset. Mr. Morrison is a friend of my brother’s, so I treat him like a brother, too."

Upstairs, Morrison paused at the corner of the hallway. Hearing that, he sneered coldly to himself.

"Treat me like a brother, huh?"

Could she really be kissing her brother? Or fall in love with him?

Brother?

Heh!

With a bitter sneer, Morrison retreated to his bedroom at home. The moment he stepped inside, fury took hold—he gave his suitcase a furious kick, sending it flying across the room.
