Chapter 253: 0251 The way of complimenting is so unique!
If we walk into a middle-class family, where the financial situation is good and the level of education has reached an excellent level, then at least people will see a clean and tidy home.
It may not be lavishly decorated, and you may not see anything valuable displayed, but at least it is clean and tidy, including the clothes in the wardrobe or drawers.
They are carefully folded in some manner and placed together, giving some people a particular shock when a stranger first opens them.
Those who are shocked by neatness are often untidy themselves and lack self-discipline, which is why they are shocked by other people’s self-discipline.
Sometimes they are also very arrogant, not believing there is anything in this world they can’t do if they set their minds to it.
If there is, then others must not be able to do it either until one day they see a scene they find unbearable.
Neatly arranged underwear!
Vera wasn’t always a full-time accountant; she was affiliated with an accounting firm, going there when there was work and staying at home when there wasn’t.
Their children were taken care of by their parents, which gave Vera a lot of time.
The maid would help them with some of the heavier work, and the rest was handled by Vera, who had become accustomed to neatly filling numbers into grids at work, possessing a typical obsessive-compulsive disorder she herself didn’t understand.
She folded these things neatly together, not just her underwear; if you opened Gap’s wardrobe, the first sight would be neatly rolled ties and cufflinks placed in boxes, almost like in a store.
It’s a habit, but now it seems this habit makes some people ashamed and annoyed, even if no one actually accused her of anything!
The female police officer’s exclamation attracted a few male officers and another female officer, and when people saw the underwear, the gaze that followed when looking at Vera made her feel as if she were standing naked in front of them, dressed in that underwear.
Her face quickly turned red, then turned pale, "You have no right to do this..."
The female police officer looked at Vera, shook her head with some provocation, "No, I do!"
As she spoke, she continued to rummage through a piece of underwear in front of Vera, opening them and mocking that a woman who wears such vulgar underwear must also be a vulgar woman.
Vera trembled with anger, but as soon as she moved a step, another female officer placed her hand on the gun handle and looked at Vera warily.
She gave no warning, just looked at her.
The whole world seemed to become incomparably strange at that moment, these police officers breaking into her home, humiliating her, and she had no way to resist.
The two senior investigators seemed to have no intention of intervening, just standing by watching the drama.
At this moment, Vera, enduring discomfort, made a request, "I want to make a phone call!"
The wary female officer removed her hand from the gun handle, "You can, but I must know who you’re calling and what is said."
Vera looked at her twice, walked to the bedside table, picked up the phone, and just as she dialed the number, the female officer pressed the speaker button and forcibly took the receiver from her hand, putting it back on the phone, "I said, I need to know what you two talked about."
At this moment, Vera had no way at all; as a woman bound by societal rules for thirty years, she didn’t resist in the beginning, nor would she resist afterward. She silently accepted this unreasonable demand.
The call was quickly connected, and the voice on the other end made Vera’s body tremble a little less, "It’s me..."
Vera pursed her lips, "Can you come over to my place, I’ve run into some trouble!"
Lynch didn’t think for too long, and the speakerphone echoed with some hurried writing sounds, the friction of the pen tip on paper and the desk.
"Of course, wait for me a moment..."
The call ended, the female officer looked at her with some derision, "No matter who comes, it won’t make a difference, understand? Madam!"
The nature of cases like this has actually already been communicated internally within the police station, receiving some kind of hint from above, making everyone bold and reckless.
Don’t think all police are good people, they’re not; being a police officer is just their job. When looked at apart from their work, these officers are just natural people living in this society.
They are no different from most ordinary families’ ordinary people. They also have emotions, loves, and hates, and they may have some minor flaws that only ordinary people have, like jealousy.
A beautiful woman, a beautiful home, a closet filled with lingerie so stunning that the two female police officers could only admire them through the window all their lives, yet they might not afford or fit into them even if they could buy them.
Everyone loves beautiful things, but such things must not be mirrored against one’s own ugliness; otherwise, it is not beauty, at least not something they would admit to.
Soon, Lynch’s car stopped at the entrance. The order in Sabin City had been well restored, and people, too hungry to even walk a few steps without panting, could no longer pose any threat to this society.
Military personnel still occasionally passed by in the street; it was the transitional period between the old and new president, and the army had not yet withdrawn from Sabin City. They would only leave after the new President swore the oath at the President’s Mansion.
So Lynch could now appear on the streets in his car, which made him feel a lot better.
As soon as he entered the door, a policeman approached him, but when they recognized Lynch’s face, they awkwardly retreated to the side.
Few people in the Sabin City Police Station were unaware of who Lynch was anymore. After he donated ten police cars to the station, many police officers learned about this wealthy man and his relationship with the Police Director.
Especially after being persuaded by the Director, Lynch donated twenty thousand dollars to the Police Club; even if the police did not feel grateful to him, they would not despise or hate him either.
Entering the room, Lynch took off his coat, removed his hat, and casually hung these items on a nearby rack. He glanced at the two investigators standing in the upstairs hallway and flashed a very clean smile.
Handsome young men who are always smiling tend to receive some friendly treatment; the two investigators quickly looked away, as they also knew Lynch.
Lynch was becoming more and more famous in Sabin City. Perhaps not many ordinary people knew about him, but investigators and police officers somewhat understood him.
Every city has some people that cannot be offended, like the mayor’s nephew, Mark.
For example, Lynch, who had good relations with the mayor and was on decent terms with local wealthy individuals, was one of those tough individuals to deal with; common people would not offend them for official duties, it simply was not worthwhile.
Lynch quickly appeared in the room on the second floor. As soon as Vera saw him arrive, she exhaled heavily, "Thank goodness, you finally came..."
As she spoke, her eyes began to redden. This was the first time since childhood she had suffered such grievance and humiliation. The inadvertent gazes skimming over her felt like knives, cutting not just her body, but wounding her heart, too.
Lynch gently embraced Vera, comforting her, "Leave the rest to me."
This sentence allowed Vera to relax completely. Lynch sensed she seemed somewhat... drained, so he placed her on the bed, "You take a rest for a while..." then turned to look at the others, "Sorry, ladies and gentlemen, this lady feels unwell and needs to rest. Would you mind searching this room later?"
From the chaos in the house, Lynch could tell they had some reliance, like a search warrant.
In the Bail Federal, judicial procedures were extremely rigid, also a high-voltage line; no one dared to easily touch them.
Publicly declared, these procedures protected the rights of ordinary people to a great extent. Indeed, it seemed so, and the general public also believed this honestly. In fact, these measures protected those with power and influence even more.
There was once a case in the history of the Federal Judiciary, a murder case, in which a wealthy man’s wife was brutally killed at home. Almost all evidence pointed to this wealthy man, but at that moment, due to an investigator’s incomprehensible failure to collect evidence according to procedure, crucial evidence lost its legal validity, causing the murder case to drag on long before ending inconclusively.
The wealthy man even hinted in drunkenness that he did it all, but it was too late; the procedural error cost the police the chance, and the case’s failure buried the whole case completely.
If the wealthy man no longer got involved in other cases, one could say he successfully escaped the law.
And the investigator... he soon found himself guilt-ridden due to his work mistake, unable to face his work and colleagues. Not long after the case, he resigned and became another wealthy man.
Rigid processes also deterred law enforcement agencies from acting recklessly. If they barged in without a search warrant, not only would they make mistakes, but they might even turn the Ristone Group’s case around.
Of course, none of these things were likely to happen, because they followed procedures.
The two investigators pondered slightly and then turned to leave the room. They had actually searched here once before and knew there was nothing significant here. This time was just procedural, while also applying pressure on Vera.
After the investigators left, the two female police officers had no choice but to leave too. As Lynch shut the door, he couldn’t help but frown.
As everyone knew, Lord Lynch was a man of high moral character, someone who rose above low tastes. Yet, as he closed the door, he actually heard the fat female police officer outside mockingly speculate with her colleague about the relationship between Lynch and Vera.
In her dirty depiction, Lynch and Vera were already in a substantial relationship beyond friendship; that was why he intervened at that moment.
She even envied Lord Lynch’s handsome appearance, attacking that besides being good-looking and wealthy, he was useless!!
This might be the truth, but she overlooked Lynch’s inner wisdom!
