Chapter 380: Chapter 13 Chi Yu Zi

Xuanhuang Continent, Sanqing Taoist Sect, within an unnamed thatched hut located in Spiritual Mountain Marsh.

A light humming sound transmitted from within.

Qingcang laid out a piece of cloud-patterned spring-green fabric and autumn-white fabric on the table, looked them over repeatedly, and asked, "Miao Miao, do you think my disciple would look better in white or in green?"

The White Fox yawned, laying lazily on the chair, spoke, "Why not make one of each?"

"That makes sense."

"Miao Miao, do you think it should be a Daoist robe or ordinary clothes?"

"One Daoist robe, one set of ordinary clothes."

"Should it be a green Daoist robe or a white one? Should the ordinary clothes be white or white..."

Before she could finish speaking, the White Fox’s triangular ears instantly bent and closed; she did not wish to repeat these meaningless questions again.

Though Qingcang had seemed much more spirited recently, he had also become rather annoying. All he talked about was his disciple, to the point where the fox’s ears had developed calluses.

Is it not just a disciple of a Saint?

An occurrence that might not happen once in several hundred thousand years, indeed. A Little Saint who hasn’t reached a thousand years of age, indeed. A Saint with a clearer path to Dao than Jianmu, indeed. The next Sovereign of Heaven and City Lord...

The more she thought about it, the angrier White Fox became, leaving numerous distinct scratch marks on the chair.

At that moment, Qingcang had made up his mind – to make a spring-green Daoist robe and autumn-white clothes, these two color combinations being timeless; at the very least, they wouldn’t look bad when worn.

Busy as a bee, half a day passed when a voice came from outside the door.

"Yun Miao, seeks an audience with the grandmaster."

"Enter."

Yun Miao, donning his Daoist robe, walked in and saluted, "Grandmaster, a problem has arisen. Chi Yu Zi has reached Taiyi City."

"Hasn’t she been absent from the Daoist Sect for the past century? Did you inform her of Gu Wen’s news?"

Qingcang thought of the ’problematic child’ of his home, who didn’t belong to any faction of the Sanqing Taoist Sect, yet was currently the strongest in the sect aside from himself.

In terms of magical combat, Chi Yu Zi was stronger than Yun Miao, Huayang, Daozi, and the many elders.

But that’s all she could do – magical combat. Outside of that, she couldn’t even speak, akin to a puppet.

Qingcang had thought about curing this young girl, but having only one soul remaining was a celestial deficiency, not an illness. Unless he could find the Golden Core Venerable and take back her two souls and seven spirits, there was no way he could concoct them out of thin air.

Yun Miao shook his head, "I have never publicized the news about Gu Wen; even Huayang is unaware of it."

The matter of Gu Wen was a top secret of the Daoist Sect.

Anyone who came into contact with this information needed Qingcang’s permission. Currently, only the three people present knew.

"Chi Yu Zi’s trip to Taiyi City had been scheduled decades ago, and for the past few decades, she has been patrolling the world to regulate devils and demons; it simply so happened that she arrived at Taiyi City. However, according to the City Lord’s message, Gu Wen has now reached Liuyun Sect."

His face showed hesitation and he asked, "But is this really okay? She’s stayed in the Daoist Sect for eight hundred years because of Gu Wen. Now that he has returned, should she not be informed?"

"If they are fated to meet, I cannot stop it; otherwise, it implies that she must endure this tribulation. Why interfere?" Qingcang’s demeanor remained calm as he indifferently said, "She has only ten years left; but these years she hasn’t been anxious in the least. How can one speak of a breakthrough when hope is lost?"

Vajra body, Glazed Heart, thus diverging from the path of the undying Taoist Body.

Chi Yu Zi was different from others. If she wanted to live, her only option was to break through to Demi Immortal, to escape the constraints of Heaven and Earth on the lifespan of living beings.

Yun Miao suggested, "If we tell her that Gu Wen has come back, wouldn’t that revive her?"

"Pfft, hahaha," burst out White Fox, who had been silent until that moment, with a crisp laugh. Her fox ears perked back up and shook as she laughed, "Living beings inherently gravitate toward inaction; she’d probably be even more at peace with the idea of dying."

"What she lacks is the hysteria of pursuing immortality, just like that Golden Core Saint of the past. Even if she goes back on her word and ends up heartless and ruthless, draws upon herself a myriad of karma – she must have immortality."

The White Fox hopped off the chair, circled around Yun Miao, and commented, "Little Taoist, you’re not of the immortal seed either."

Yun Miao maintained his usual carefree demeanor, "If one cannot live contentedly, what use is there in immortality?"

"Qingcang also thought this way; that’s why he died once before."

The White Fox leaped back to the chair, and Yun Miao once again sought instructions, "Not informing Chi Yu Zi, then should we inform Gu Wen?"

Qingcang nodded, "Tell him, to avoid any misunderstandings."

Afterward, Yun Miao left the hut, turning into a stream of light and flew back to the Jade Emperor Palace. Soon after, from the Jade Emperor Palace flew a communication crane capable of traveling thousands of miles.

The crane soared through the Nine Heavens, dragging a trail of light, crossing over the myriad mountains and rivers of the Human Race.

Beneath, among the green mountains, a great power was engaged in magical combat, the brilliance of a dazzling golden sun visible from hundreds of miles away.

Around the golden sun, shadows of demons lurked densely, a wisp of Demonic Qi falling to the ground could cause a ten-mile radius to turn into scorched earth.

A green corpse, a clump of Blood Demon, a Devil Saint, a Dao Realm Evil Cultivator.

The golden sun hung high in the sky, within which stood a nine-zhang-tall Golden Body Divine General, arms crossed, head tilted slightly in contempt of the devils below.

Devils hissing and flailing, the Divine General silent, delivering punches and kicks, grabbing and releasing – the Evil Cultivator met his end, the Devil Saint perished, the green corpse fled, the Blood Demon escaped.

As the crane departed into the distance, a golden light hastened ahead, both speeding towards Taiyi City.

-----------------

Three days later, in the deep of the night when all was still.

Xie Yunnan arrived as promised several hundred miles outside Taiyi City, following an intricate and unnamed narrow path for a thousand steps, pushing aside willow branches, to where a small pond was emitting a golden glow.

She stepped forward, bent over with hands clasped in salute, and said, "Xie Yunnan, direct disciple of the Sword Master of Broken Sword Mountain, pays respects to Chi Venerable."

As the sound of her voice fell, ripples suddenly stirred in the quiet pond, and a majestic golden Divine General stood erect.
