Chapter 375: Chapter 11 - Comprehend the Dao and Foundation Establishment, Chi Venerable Approaches
All the laws of heaven and earth are composed of the two qi, clear and dull, and the Five Elements: metal, wood, water, fire, and earth.
According to the scriptures of cultivation taught by Professor Yu Hua, the reason cultivators can perform Flying Escape is by borrowing the clear qi. All techniques of flight are due to the clear qi, while on the contrary, earth escape techniques utilize the dull qi.
Going further, any magic skill that has beautifying effects employs the clear qi, and anything that arouses a cultivator’s desires uses the dull qi.
Most people Gu Wen saw were chaotic, containing both clear and dull qi, and all five elements. On this Residual Soul, he saw pure dull qi.
He guessed, "Do you come from the underworld?"
"Saint Venerable has eyes that recognize the genuine from the false."
"I would like to ask about some matters. Could I trouble you to enlighten me a little?"
"Please speak, Saint Venerable."
The Residual Soul no longer remained silent this time. Its previous escape had been permitted by Gu Wen, but now it would be seeking its own death should it run when a Saint was questioning it.
The great powers among heaven and earth can be deceived, Immortals can be misled, but Saints must not be insulted.
Perhaps it had been too long since the Heaven and Earth Two Saints had achieved their Dao, and the beings under the heavens had forgotten the majesty of the Saints. An incident that occurred eight hundred years ago, known as the lifespan disaster, caused countless great powers to fall, reducing the high-order combat power of both humans and demons by half.
And this was merely a manifestation of the Lord’s grand Dao. The mere breath of a Saint could decide the life and death of all beings.
Gu Wen asked, "After a person dies, they become a ghost, but I seldom see ghosts, only obsessions wrapped in evil energy. Once the three souls and seven spirits scatter, they completely return to heaven and earth. Is this the work of the Lord?"
The Residual Soul answered, "The Lord governs the reincarnation of all beings. It once required the help of three million Yin Gods to maintain the balance of yin and yang. Now that the grand Dao has manifested, it is no longer necessary."
Gu Wen asked again, "I have an old friend in Wu Wang City. Is she considered dead or alive?"
"Dead. Even if the three souls and seven spirits are preserved, it is much worse than reincarnation. At least reincarnation has a one in ten thousand chance to recover memories of the past life. In Wu Wang City, it is eternal death."
The voice of the Residual Soul changed, not sealing off all possibilities, and said, "However, this might not necessarily be a bad thing. Maybe she will live longer in Wu Wang City than an average Immortal, though her life may not be as good."
"Why?"
"This place was originally the abode of the yin officials. Beneath the grace of the Lord, one has inexhaustible yin lifespan. But with the yin officials gone, no one would arrange her reincarnation, so she can only wait in endless years for her will to completely extinguish."
The Residual Soul’s words carried an imperceptible tremor to avoid Gu Wen’s further probing, and continued to divulge, "I was originally a Yin God. When the yin officials’ dominion collapsed, I fled and have been in secret slumber until now."
"Now that I have awoken, I only wish to reconstruct a body and live a good life once more."
Gu Wen saw a strand of divine light within the soul of the other party, which was likely a treasure of some kind. The claims of wanting to simply live a good life again likely concealed other motives.
Between the words, much was also hidden. Concerning how the underworld collapsed, not a word was said, and its identity was merely revealed as a Yin God.
Yin Soldiers are Yin Gods, Yama is a Yin God, and even the original Lords were Yin Gods.
But it did not matter; it had nothing to do with him. Gu Wen did not care about these things, as long as he could confirm his person was still alive.
All other mysteries would be solved upon reaching the Sanqing Taoist Sect.
"Does the Saint Venerable have any other questions?"
"No."
Gu Wen waved his hand, and the youth controlled by the Residual Soul breathed a sigh of relief, then bowed slightly and retreated.
Wang Li regained control over his body and kowtowed three more times.
Although he was young, his ability to gauge the situation was not weak. From his master’s respectful demeanor towards Gu Wen, bordering on fear, he knew the seemingly ordinary Daoist in front of him was not to be provoked.
Lan Yongning spoke up, "Young friend, the items you request will require some time, and the opening of Immortal Land is still decades away. I do not recommend that you enter now. You won’t just miss out on good treasures; no protector would agree to waste decades inside."
"I will follow Senior’s arrangements."
Wang Li also gave Lan Yongning a kowtow.
Lan Yongning was calm and composed, apparently already accustomed to such reverence from others. After reflecting for a moment, he turned to the City Lord and suggested, "Why not let him stay in Taiyi City? It would be establishing a good connection."
The Lord of Taiyi City bowed and said, "I shall carefully follow the Venerable’s directive."
"One last thing, young friend, do you still wish to participate in the Tianxuan Conference?"
"If I can participate, of course, I still wish to."
"I have an impolite request," Lan Yongning said calmly, taking a sip of tea. "Your cultivation at the Foundation Establishment Stage is capable of overcoming a Golden Core. The Tianxuan Conference battle arena matches are imminent. I hope you can defeat my descendant on the arena and give him a lesson, to temper his character."
"Ah?"
Wang Li scratched his head in confusion and confirmed, "You want me to discipline your disciple?"
"Correct."
Lan Yongning nodded, "I’ll tell you his weakest points and everything about the magic skills he has learned; this will also be part of your compensation. You were born from a humble background, and though you have a great power as a master, he evidently did not teach you any magic skills suitable for human cultivation."
"Liuyun Sect is not a sacred Daoist land, but it’s also one of the Major Sects. I believe it can be of great assistance to you."
Wang Li was still a bit unclear, but he respectfully agreed with a bow and was then taken away by Taiyi City’s cultivators to arrange a cave dwelling for him to prepare for the Tianxuan Conference.
After the outsider left, only Gu Wen, Lan Yongning, and the Lord of Taiyi City remained.
The Lord of Taiyi City curiously asked, "Venerable Wen, your disciple is not bad; he’s considered one of the prodigies. Why would you specifically find someone from outside to suppress him? Even if it is to temper his temperament, it seems rather extreme."
"Extreme? If his Dao heart collapses because of this, then he is not fit for cultivation."
Lan Yongning’s mouth held a smile, but his words were cold and realistic.
