Chapter 364: Chapter 5 Qingcang Enlightens the People_2
"Wen Kui State is a place of the righteous path, yet this doesn’t prevent the neighboring Huajian State from commonly seizing people as slaves and using them for cauldron-filling," she slammed the table and stood up, her body leaning slightly towards Gu Wen, her eyes filled with spirit and murderous intent.
"Control over inspections and hunting down evil cultivators across the world were all in the hands of our predecessors."
Gu Wen, upon hearing this, was very calm and pressed her back into her seat, saying, "The Qingcang Immortal is severely injured now, and has just handed over this heavy responsibility to us. However, why did Broken Sword Mountain send you? At the peak of the Golden Core, you can’t capture those sect masters."
Although he had only recently entered the cultivation world, Yu Hua had been explaining its matters to him for eight hundred years, including many common understandings.
Sects are divided into upper, middle, and lower levels, and then there are those out of the classification system, among which the master of a third-class sect is a True Monarch, at least at the Returning to Void realm.
Golden Core is still far from Returning to Void, not to mention Nascent Soul and Divine Separation; this isn’t Immortal Land, and even with an Innate Sword Bone, surpassing two major realms isn’t possible, possibly not even two minor realms.
"My master said that great powers have a sense of each other, and being too high in realm makes it easier to expose oneself."
Xie Yunnan took out a letter.
"This is from my grandmaster to you."
Gu Wen took the letter, which also contained special prohibitions; however, to him, they were as transparent as gauze, and he read everything at a glance.
[To my friend Chi Yu Zi]
[I recall in those days in Immortal Land, deeply trapped by my heart demon, troubled by the True Sword Dao. Fellow Daoist, by Sword Mountain’s arrangement, contested with me once, and there hasn’t been a second time; I hope that when Fellow Daoist emerges from seclusion, we could continue the contests of those days.]
[Back to the main point, the matter of Daoist Sect and Broken Sword Mountain was supposed to be attended to by me and you together. But recent developments in Sword Continent force me to stay as devilish occurrences frequent, and coincidentally, my unworthy disciple needs experience, I hope Fellow Daoist could look after them a bit.]
Seeing the first sentence, Gu Wen couldn’t help but smile.
This Xiao Yunyi sure holds grudges, back in the day Chi Yu Zi woke him up with a beating as soon as he arrived at Luo River. Eight hundred years later and he still hasn’t forgotten, planning to settle scores.
However, on second thought, considering Chi Yu Zi’s fiery temperament before losing spiritual wisdom, that sharp little mouth spared no one when hurling insults.
Thinking back to when he asked her about swordsmanship, her first words were "You could practice a hundred more years and still not surpass me, save your energy."
Xie Yunnan, seeing Gu Wen occasionally chuckling while reading the letter, thought to herself: ’This senior from Sanqing Taoist Sect seems to have a close relationship with the master.’
Ordinary acquaintances wouldn’t laugh out loud upon reading a letter, and her master was a reticent type, hardly someone to make jokes.
Then there was a long section about the content Xie Yunnan had explained earlier, essentially about Daoist Sect suspecting the various sects of harboring evil cultivators, hence sending Chi Yu Zi to deal with it.
However, due to a mix-up, originally after the Tianxuan Conference ended was Chi Yu Zi supposed to come out of seclusion, yet now Xie Yunnan mistook herself for her.
’However, let’s make the best of this mistake, and at that time, we might see each other.’
Gu Wen put away the letter and looked again at Xie Yunnan, saying, "I’m now aware of the situation, next, you should proceed with participating in the Tianxuan Conference as scheduled."
"Yun Nan obeys. And there’s one more thing, on normal days, to prevent exposing my identity, please allow this junior to address you casually outdoors."
"Do as you see fit."
-----------------
The next morning, Gu Wen encountered Chunxuan again; the latter’s gaze shifted evasively.
Cultivators who boast strong power are respected; Gu Wen’s strength was formidable, so a normal person wouldn’t dare to trouble him.
Xie Yunnan chatted with Gu Wen for a few more moments, openly arranging to travel together in front of everyone, actually providing a reason to move together; it was perfect since he needed a wallet.
By evening, the Immortal Boat that Gu Wen was on sailed into Taiyi City.
Compared to Two Realms City with its thousand-zhang heights serving entirely the Human Race, Taiyi City was only thirty zhang high and ten zhang wide, maintaining dignity without appearing too expansive.
After a series of inspections confirming his mana was not from an evil cultivator, Gu Wen finally entered Taiyi City.
Blue tiles and emerald buildings stretched continuously, and the roadway thronged with carriages and horses, the streets densely packed.
Cultivators with an imposing look, merchants in luxurious clothing, and commoners in rough linen, all sorts of professions mixing, cultivators and mortals living together.
Most of the cultivators were at various levels of Qi cultivation; Gu Wen saw more than one family made up of cultivators and mortals. Cultivation, much like official ranks, although highly valued, wasn’t utterly inaccessible to mortals.
A child at the Qi Cultivation First Level rode on his father’s shoulders, a young adult at the Qi Cultivation Third Level supporting his elderly parents.
By comparison, Two Realms City appeared much more prosperous, yet Gu Wen felt this place resonated more with the cultivation world and bore more traces of the mundane world.
Gu Wen observed his surroundings, his pace slightly slow, Xie Yunnan, noticing he was falling dozens of steps behind the group, retraced her steps with the Sword Sect disciples.
"Fellow Daoist of the Red Dust, have you encountered some issues?"
"Nothing much, just noticing that there are too many cultivators in this city, seems like there are also quite a few families made up of mortals and cultivators."
This remark caused a young Sword Sect disciple to suppress a laugh, saying, "Cultivators aren’t considered true cultivators until they reach the nine level, Fellow Daoist, how many years has it been since you last went out?"
"Don’t be rude."
Xie Yunnan gently reprimanded the young disciple, then explained to Gu Wen: "Three hundred years ago, the Qingcang Immortal spread the seeds of the Five Spirits Valley across the land, then promoted the awakening of the people. Initially, it started with setting up a stone tablet recording the Qi Cultivation Skill in each major city, later mass-printing Daoist Sect’s Qi Cultivation Stage techniques and cultivation insights; with half a year’s harvest, mortal could buy several volumes."
The young disciple raised his hand, saying, "My family has a volume of the Three Pure Qi Cultivation Skills."
