Chapter 359: Chapter 2: The Legacy of an Old Friend_2
Two Realms City was bustling with life, a convergence of powers from all over the heavens and earth, a blend of people and things of every shape and color.
Gu Wen was seized by an impulse to stay for a few years, but he had many tasks to accomplish, not least of which was a trip to Three Pure Mountain.
Otherwise, when his master arrived to fetch him, it might come down to blows.
After asking around for directions, Gu Wen arrived at the spaceport of Two Realms City, away from the bustling city center, where an endless arrangement of shuttles, ships, and boats lay on an expansive flatland.
They varied in size and form, the largest being a thousand zhang long, the smallest at least ten.
On the periphery, comparatively modest houses were erected to accommodate guests needing to board a flying vessel.
Gu Wen, of course, could have used his abilities to travel on his own, but first, he didn’t know the way, and second, he desired the experience.
He entered one of the establishments and at the entrance encountered that group of Sword Sect disciples, overhearing their conversation with the counter maiden.
"Right now, the chaos of the Qiankun currents is unstable; except for cultivators above the level of True Monarch, all flying vessels are incapable of teleportation."
"How long will we need to wait?"
"We don’t know for the moment, but as is customary, if it exceeds one week, the Immortals of Two Realms City will intervene to calm the chaos. The young heroes should register first to avoid missing out on tickets later."
After discussing it among themselves, the Sword Sect disciples decided to stay overnight. A week was a short time for cultivators; it would pass with a single meditation session.
Then the Sword Sect disciples courteously stepped aside, making way for those who came after. Gu Wen wasn’t in the front of the queue, there were still many people lined up in front of him.
A gaze landed on him, Gu Wen noticed and turned to look, seeing a particularly tall girl among the group of Sword Sect disciples staring at him.
Beauty was common among cultivators, and through the flesh, her bones were also excellent, emitting wisps of Sword Intent.
Innate Sword Bone.
With a moment of clarity, Gu Wen recognized the essence and knew the truth of the universe at a sniff.
The Sword Sect female cultivator nodded slightly in greeting, and Gu Wen returned the nod; soon after, he subtly stepped to the side as a figure squeezed past from behind, almost brushing against him and nearly falling over.
A young man, arrogant and overbearing, shoved his way through the crowd, pushing everyone in front of him aside.
"Make way! Make way!"
When he came to shove a mid-stage Foundation Establishment strong man who was near the front, he was flung aside with a voice like a great bell, "Where did this shameless monkey come from, acting tough here?"
The youth who fell on the ground cried out in pain, provoking laughter from the people around and flushing his face with visible embarrassment.
"How bold! Do you know who my master is? My master is a True Disciple of the Liuyun Sect from Wenkui Continent."
Upon hearing this, the strong man’s expression visibly changed, yet under the public’s eye, he had no choice but to brazenly reply, "I don’t care which family’s dog you are, you think you can kill me in Two Realms City? And once we leave this place, how could you possibly find me anywhere under heaven?"
"Fine! Just you wait."
A moment later, the youth returned with a handsome man in yellow, streaks of golden light occasionally flickering on his clothes.
He openly revealed his cultivation, which turned out to be at the Golden Core Stage!
"It was him, I kindly asked for a spot, but this bastard hit me! He also said... he said you’re a stray dog."
These words, ’relying on the powerful to bully others,’ were made perfectly clear by the youth’s actions, and Gu Wen watched, finding it particularly amusing as a smile played on his lips.
But the others present weren’t nearly as composed as Gu Wen; the strong man was on high alert, the rest too angry yet too afraid to speak.
The yellow-clothed youth initially focused on the strong man, then his gaze turned to the tall woman among the Sword Sect disciples, his face immediately showing delight, and he quickly approached her.
Bowing with hands clasped, he said with a radiant smile, "I didn’t expect to encounter Fairy Xie in a place like this."
Xie Yunnan’s eyes were cold as she gave a slight nod, showing little interest in further conversation. The man in yellow, apparently not noticing the cue, continued to make awkward conversation.
Gu Wen could hear the Sword Sect female disciple communicating telepathically with the strong man, advising him to leave quickly, thereby defusing the conflict.
’Handling the situation much more smoothly than Brother Xiao.’
The thought was fleeting, and Gu Wen continued to stand quietly in line until it was his turn.
The maiden at the counter put on a professional smile as she sized up Gu Wen.
Dressed in coarse blue clothing, the only distinctive feature was the Jade Pendant hanging on his chest, with no other excess decorations or visible magic treasures.
He was either destitute or an ascetic, with the former being more likely, but as a place of business, greeting everyone with a smile was fundamental.
In this brief moment, she determined her address, saying, "Greetings, senior. How may I assist you?"
Gu Wen said, "I need to go to Three Pure Mountain."
"Once these words were spoken, the way people looked at him changed.
Dress can make the man, but status is also a kind of attire.
The maid became even more courteous and patiently explained, "Senior, Three Pure Mountain was destroyed four hundred years ago. If you want to go to the Sanqing Taoist Sect, there are two different destinations. One is in Xuanhuang State, convenient for Qingcang Immortal to govern the Human Race, and the other is at the frontier."
"Which one would you like to visit?"
Three Pure Mountain is gone?
Gu Wen felt some regret; back when Yu Hua had taken him straight up to the Nine Heavens for an observation beyond the Heavens, the most eye-catching sight had been Three Pure Mountain, Jianmu indeed bore a heavy sin.
He said, "Let’s go to Xuanhuang State."
"Alright, that will be ten top-grade spiritual stones, or one hundred mid-grade spirit stones. We do not accept low-quality ones here."
"I don’t have any spirit stones, but I have something else, I wonder if it can serve as my fare for the boat?"
Gu Wen took out a grayish-white token, its original rainbow luster stripped away by the years.
The maid tilted her head slightly, her eyes unable to hold back contempt, but she masked it very well and took it in her hands for a glance.
"Senior, I’m sorry, but I don’t recognize this item. You can take it to a pawnshop for someone to take a look, perhaps you can exchange it for some spirit stones; we do not accept goods in exchange for tickets here."
Mana touched the Token, and the Flying Rainbow Token hummed, bits of starlight flew towards the sky, and then rainbow light twisted and meandered like a long serpent, connecting the rivers and mountains of the Human Race across thousands of miles.
This was a map leading to all places, marking all the routeways operated by the sects involved in navigation, including some confidential routes, all recorded in meticulous detail.
Even the largest Immortal Boat currently docked at the spaceport probably did not have such a complete map.
"This....."
The maid’s expression stiffened; sweat began to form on her forehead as she fumbled to retract the Star Map, and activated the isolating array beneath the counter.
A light mist concealed the outside world.
Then her attitude became extremely humble, bowing her head and saying, "I’m unable to identify this item. May I go and consult with the Steward?"
"You may."
A few minutes later, a middle-aged Cultivator hurried over, picked up the Flying Rainbow Token, and probed it with his Divine Thought.
Seeing such a complete Star Map for the first time, he too was astonished.
The Void contains countless paths, and carving out a single route through the Void is a task of supreme difficulty, vital to all families; yet this little Token encompassed the majority of the pathways.
Delving deeper... he saw signatures from over a hundred sects, with the Sanqing Taoist Sect prominently at the forefront!
[...By virtue of this Token, wherever the Human Race’s navigational networks reach, wherever the Immortal Boats travel, one may board them.]
[In the year of Yang Yuan Geng Shen]
The Steward rolled up his sleeves, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and handed back the Flying Rainbow Token with a forced smile, "Senior, you may board the ship, but there’s a small problem."
Gu Wen asked, "What’s the problem?"
The Steward replied earnestly, "This Token recorded here appears to have been made eight hundred years ago, and now, eight hundred years later, you bring it out to use; our sect was not informed of the existence of this Token. I ask for your permission to confirm with the sect."
He wasn’t entirely sure whether the Flying Rainbow Token was real, but the Star Map was correct.
"Of course, you may."
Gu Wen nodded; making things convenient for others, and they would make things convenient for him in return was quite normal.
"Please wait a moment."
The Steward quickly left, and the isolating array was lifted, curious glances coming from the others.
Gu Wen did not say much, found a corner to quietly sit down, the maid brought over drinks and food, her utmost respectful demeanor as if the identity of the Sanqing Daoist Sect had cloaked him in a robe woven from clouds and dawn light.
No one came to disturb him, and he quietly watched the Flying Rainbow Token, as some memories emerged.
It was a bright white figure; his heart, calm for eight hundred years, at this moment, rippled with a hint of frost.
The sun set, and the Steward returned, his attitude even more humble, his gaze towards Gu Wen filled with both reverence and excitement.
"Your Flying Rainbow Token is correct, and there’s also property in Two Realms City that belongs to you, would you like to check it out?"
"Property?"
"A small courtyard, located in Little Bottle Lane; it was left to you by a deceased friend."
Little Bottle Lane, tranquil and beautifully serene, paved with bluestone slabs extending to a small courtyard, where a date tree reached out over the wall.
Gu Wen pushed open the creaking gate, and a secluded courtyard came into view, preserved spotless by the arrays.
