Chapter 356: Chapter 1 Entering the Cultivation World_2
Jianmu’s verdant aura flowed into the tiny being, and a single slender strand of hair grew out.
The visage of the Little Saint was unique; unlike others, Gu Wen’s foundation was not based on any single entity of heaven and earth, and his insights were not confined to the Heaven and Earth Laws.
There was no past, present, or future, only the heart within him existed.
His path was not one of Harmonization and saintly ascension, but a genuine transcendence. He desired to leap beyond the Three Realms, to exist outside the Five Elements. Before this, he needed to study, focus, and assimilate the laws of the Three Realms.
Perhaps at the end, his great path could become a new heaven and earth.
"It’s time for me to leave."
Gu Wen looked up, gazing beyond the sky, where above the Nine Heavens was the Rainbow Bridge, and at the end of the bridge was Two Realms City, the realm he yearned for yet could not reach.
With one step, he soared high into the sky, and then countless white jade chains reached out from the void, the clear skies became shackles, and all lands served as a prison.
All to confine a single person, an eight-foot-tall figure.
As the second step was taken, the shackles shattered one after another.
Gu Wen stepped onto the Rainbow Bridge, his gaze as if cast from eight hundred years prior, seeing countless familiar figures, the prodigies of the era standing atop the bridge, looking down upon him.
Now that he finally set foot on the Rainbow Bridge, they had already been gone for eight hundred years.
The third step brought him to the bridge’s end, where the thousand-foot-tall bronze gate stood firm as if it were the gateway of the Heavenly Court.
Gu Wen touched the gate, his smile wistful, "These three steps, they took me eight hundred years."
-----------------
Two Realms City.
After eight hundred years of stillness, the blank stone tablet transformed from the Three Rankings suddenly lit up.
Then after three breaths, beams of divine light started to traverse thousands of miles from all corners of the world, as the great powers from various factions hurriedly brought their protégés and dashed forth.
The gateway to Immortal Land on the Rainbow Bridge was a thousand feet tall, a hundred feet wide, with a grey stone pathway that stretched for miles, shrouded in wisps of white smoke.
It was said to be guarded by a Divine Beast, impenetrable to outsiders, from which sharp scraping sounds were heard night and day.
Squeak, squeak, squeak!
Those sharp scraping noises came again, and the white fog impeded the approach, halting the steps of the crowd.
Among the thirty people, there were three kinds of individuals: the contemporary prodigies of towering presence and brimming vitality, the slightly lesser talents acting as Guardians, and the elderly protectors of the sects.
"Master, master, I haven’t finished dressing yet!"
"What are you dressing for, has Immortal Land opened ahead of schedule? Going in now could give us an early advantage, with much less competition."
An old True Monarch dragged a youth to the ground, who upon seeing the dozens already present, said disappointedly, "Master, you’re not the only clever one."
"Fool! Haven’t you noticed that the prodigies of the major sects aren’t here yet?" The old True Monarch smacked the youth on the head, continuing, "Places like the Sanqing Taoist Sect don’t covet Spiritual Objects, they enter just to cultivate the Immortal Skill."
"And their protégés are of exceptional value, each one made of Venerable’s material. Before entering Immortal Land, they arrange various contingencies. Just think, eight hundred years ago, a Daoist Venerable died, merely to present a Magic Treasure to protect a prodigy’s life."
Once these words were spoken, everyone else pricked up their ears, a few showing contemplation.
The disputes inside and outside Immortal Land eight hundred years ago were a secret for those who were not yet born or lacked the qualification to be involved. Even these talented individuals of the new era were not privy to that knowledge.
Yet, there are no walls in the world that air cannot penetrate, and as the chosen talents and prodigies of the various Immortal Sects, they always managed to catch fragments of the story.
They knew only that eight hundred years ago, the Sanqing Taoist Sect resurrected an Immortal, none other than the Qingcang Immortal who now governed the Three Religions and myriad groups.
The youth curiously asked, "What kind of talent could warrant the sacrifice of a Venerable?"
"That... You don’t need to know so much, better to first ascend the Heaven and Earth Human List."
The old True Monarch suddenly changed the subject, nearly blurting out something he should have kept to himself.
Because that was a regret for the Human Race, and a sore spot for the Qingcang Immortal; there had been a True Monarch who, after speaking carelessly while drunk, nearly got beaten to death.
"Hasn’t this gate opened yet?"
Someone nearby answered, "Just now, a predecessor dressed in red stopped us, saying we should wait a bit longer; he needs to have a talk with the beast guarding the gate."
"There’s a Divine Beast guarding this gate?"
In the distance, the piercing scraping sound came once more.
Through the white mist, a strikingly handsome man in red stood before the great door.
He looked down at a hole at the bottom of the door, where inside a ball of fur could vaguely be seen.
"Little guy, even if you scratch open this door, it won’t bring him back to life. You’ve guarded for eight hundred years without eating, drinking, or cultivating. If you keep this up, your Innate foundation will be ruined."
"The Immortal is not dead!"
A crisp voice came forth, as the furry ball shuffled out from within, its appearance disheveled, only the grand sun on its chest signifying its noble status as a Divine Beast.
It bared its teeth and said fiercely, "The Immortal is still alive, the Cat can feel it."
"What if he dies later?"
"The Immortal will not die!"
The small cat instantly bristled, hissing loudly.
Wu Kong was rather troubled, having no way to deal with this little Divine Beast; even Qingcang had failed to take it away once, getting his face scratched.
Suddenly, the small cat’s ears twitched, and then it excitedly said, "It’s the Immortal! The Immortal has come to fetch the Cat!"
Wu Kong looked baffled; when his Divine Thought explored the other side of the door, he detected no presence.
"Elder, may we enter Immortal Land?"
Behind him, dozens approached, some growing increasingly impatient, as every moment of delay meant losing an edge.
Rumble, rumble!
The giant door shook slightly, Wu Kong’s eyes widened as the people behind, unaware of the situation, drew even closer.
The colossal gate was slowly pushed open, and behind it emerged a figure with black hair and black eyes, donned in a green Daoist robe, his appearance plain and unremarkable.
He lightly stepped out of the gate, entering the world beyond, not stirring a single ripple.
With a faint smile and desolate eyes, his voice was calm.
