Chapter 306: Chapter 199: Qingcang’s Resurrection_2
"In the Lord Emperor’s pill furnace," Wu Kong replied, straightforward, "That kid probably hasn’t realized yet, or the Immortality Pill has influenced him. Now it’s your turn to answer."
Yu Hua responded, "I can kill the Lord Emperor, but his dharma form of Dragon Vein is troublesome, and I cannot guarantee safety against the Devil Clan immediately after."
"Is that so?"
Wu Kong stroked his chin, sometimes frowning, sometimes relaxing.
Because Yu Hua’s condition was worse than he had imagined, but not as bad. Coupled with the immeasurable future displayed by Gu Wen, Wu Kong considered whether or not to enter the fray.
Victory might not yield any benefits, while defeat and attracting Jianmu’s attention could have endless bad consequences.
Eventually, he suppressed the thought, deciding to stick with the original plan.
"According to the information I’ve gathered, the Immortality Pill is preparing to become an Immortal and head to the Devil Clan’s Earth Realm. Also, the Twelve Demon Ancestors will not enter the Immortal Land in the flesh. So, Fellow Daoist Qingcang, you might as well give up on the idea of mutual destruction."
The Immortality Pill becomes an Immortal; the Lord Emperor fed it so many Spiritual Objects, only to end up benefitting someone else. Was someone as powerful as the Lord Emperor, in the end, just a piece on the chessboard?
Gu Wen felt little joy, only a pressing realization that beneath the Immortals, all are insignificant.
His talent, however high, was insignificant. In the end, existing strength was what mattered.
City Lord Wu Kong focused his gaze above Yu Hua’s head, apparently communicating with Qingcang, and said, "What you need to do now is not step by step towards Bianjing, indeed with the momentum of dynastic change, to suppress the Lord Emperor’s Dragon Vein would be to strike at the life gate effortlessly. But there’s a faster way that can make the Lord Emperor collapse within a day."
Gu Wen faintly realized something, remained silent. He had thought about it long before.
If the Lord Emperor established a Dragon Vein in Daqian, solidified by the will of the people, then wouldn’t the disappearance of the populace suffice?
The closer people are to desperation, the easier the evil arises from within.
In a world where power is concentrated in one being, slaughter is very easy. Killing a city full of people might be as simple as trampling an ant nest. For instance, sealing the city gates with a spell and then setting all the homes ablaze.
Even more maliciously: during the harvest months of July, August, and September, burning the fields and cutting off the food supply.
Now, in the Immortal Land, besides the Immortals themselves, who can stop them? And those Immortal humans have never regarded the common people as their kin, the only thing that could make them glimpse downwards is their own Daoist lineage.
This wouldn’t arouse a moral issue, for they would transmit the Daoist lineage again after it perished.
As long as Immortals exist, so does the Daoist lineage.
"To massacre the world, there’s still a slim chance for you. And here, I have something that you can use."
City Lord Wu Kong took a thumb-sized black pill with rolling Yin energy within. Divine thought would be destroyed upon contact. Gu Wen felt a throbbing pain in his temple just by looking at it.
"Using this, a thousand miles of the Immortal Land can be struck with acidic rain, corroding the vitality of the earth. I know the temperament of your Sanqing Taoist Sect, but now you need to preserve yourselves. If you fail, more of the Human Race will die. This is to save even more people."
"Thank you for your kindness, senior, but please allow me to refuse your suggestion."
Yu Hua slowly shook her head, her voice gentle yet unwaveringly firm.
"That’s why I never thought of helping you."
City Lord Wu Kong wasn’t surprised. On the contrary, had Qingcang accepted, she wouldn’t be Qingcang.
He turned to look at Gu Wen and said, "Young friend, you are the most pragmatic. You should know what’s correct. And with her favoritism towards you, she will permit all your actions."
After meeting Qingcang, City Lord Wu Kong confirmed something.
At this moment, Qingcang’s state was perhaps torment even to utter half a syllable. The Heavenly Girl suffering under the Daoist foundation could not converse, yet Gu Wen could easily talk to her.
It was not due to Gu Wen’s ability but simply because Qingcang wanted to talk to her only successor.
Qingcang, flawless three thousand years ago, now had vulnerabilities, and this flaw was obviously not so pure and impeccable.
Gu Wen was a mortal.
He spoke calmly,
"We reject your survival of the fittest. It was so thirty thousand years ago, so three thousand years ago, and so it is today."
Indeed mortals are divided into classes, society mostly sullied, and he too could not help but have malevolent thoughts. But opposite to malice, humanity has a side of goodness, and there are always those who choose kindness.
The Devil Clan clearly did not have that, lacking any concept of good and evil—good and evil belong only to humans.
City Lord Wu Kong fell silent for a while and then took back the black pill,
"You truly are the exception among all races. The survival of the fittest is the brightest aspect of the world’s greatest simplicity, yet you choose to wrap it in all sorts of fabric. To me, you seem to be dancing, while your enemies are all fanged and clawed creatures."
"If fangs and claws were useful, what would they be afraid of?"
Yu Hua removed her veil, her delicate eyebrows trembling, her originally pale eyes regaining color, dark as night, tranquil and serene.
Or perhaps it should no longer be called Yu Hua; Qingcang had, at some point, revived from the stillness.
Without the need for an Immortality Pill, nor any earth-shattering anomaly, she had returned from death’s grasp.
City Lord Wu Kong’s expression subtly changed, becoming stiff, unnatural, no longer like an Immortal deciding the world’s fate.
As if they were him, as if Qingcang was asking what he was afraid of?
"City Lord Wu Kong, thank you for your assistance to my people and for your praise of Gu Wen, but I hope the item in your hand never falls on the rice fields of my people."
